Randall Flagg Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Thanks for the explanation. Interesting...
LastPommerFan Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 I don't understand the debate. This is why teams have GMs and Coaches. Otherwise they would just have one guy. Why would anyone question that?

biodork Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 I don't understand the debate. This is why teams have GMs and Coaches. Otherwise they would just have one guy. Why would anyone question that? Lou Lamoriello :P
LastPommerFan Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Lou Lamoriello :P Right, Then they would just have one guy. :P
biodork Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Right, Then they would just have one guy. :P And we've seen how well THAT works!
Eleven Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 And we've seen how well THAT works! We have, unfortunately. Scotty Bowman.
LastPommerFan Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 We have, unfortunately. Scotty Bowman. Could do it like the Cowboys and have an Owner/GM.
Eleven Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Could do it like the Cowboys and have an Owner/GM. Yeah, that's workin' well.
LastPommerFan Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Yeah, that's workin' well. Sure worked well for the first 10 years he was doin' it.
Eleven Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Sure worked well for the first 10 years he was doin' it. Whoa--you're right. I had no idea that he took over the GM role immediately. Then again, he played the game, which makes him a little more knowledgable than most other owners.

wonderbread Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Ralphie has played a lot of games over the years. Does that make him knowledgable too? I don't recall Mr. Wilson ever playing any professional sports. However, I am sure he is very knowledgeable.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 I don't recall Mr. Wilson ever playing any professional sports. However, I am sure he is very knowledgeable. He was one heck of a tennis player. He also was a big horse owner for a few years. He turned down the most amount of money ever at auction one time for a yearling of his. That's why I laugh when people say he doesn't care. He's a competitive sob.

I recall a link to an article here a few years back about the Knox brothers. Pretty interesting read. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1071053/index.htm

Eleven Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 I think we all need to take a shower at noon everyday like the Knox family. Followed by a trencherman's lunch, which I take to mean sandwiches. They had it tough, that generation of old money.
TheChimp Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 But I happen to know that one very key decision (Briere) was made over Ruff's strenuous objection. So I can't really think that he has a ton of say in personnel decisions. I'm sure he has some say. I think there's more detail/analysis of this upthread. Yeah, and we all heard what he had to say to the media about whether that Briere decision, accompanied by the Drury fiasco, colored his decision to stay here as head coach. That was the day Lindy should have manned up and quit this bicth.
