Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 I think it is safe to say we would have had at least 3 very high draft choices out of the 4. Now, who we would have chosen is anyone's guess. Once the damage was done, they HAD to keep Vanek. The fans would have burned the joint down. It just goes to show though how things can snowball. Briere arbitration to save 500K, stalling on the Drury contract, Edmonton offer sheet, overpaying Afinogenov/Connolly/Kotalik/Kalinin/Hecht/Gaustad, no Edmonton superstar picks, needing to trade for Torres/Boyes. It really can all be traced back to one pennypinching decision of 500K on Briere. He goes sour, they concentrate on Drury only to piss him off....and here we are today 5 years later.
spndnchz Posted December 2, 2011 Author Report Posted December 2, 2011 Starting at 5:30 pm the Sabres Store will be giving out a limited number of free tent tickets! Brad Boyes is hosting.
spndnchz Posted December 2, 2011 Author Report Posted December 2, 2011 Drew Miller has as many points as Leino. In three less games.

Beginning February this is a new chapter in Buffalo Sabres history.

In true Buffalo fashion, let's see who can parlay a free subway ride, into a free tent party ticket, into a free game ticket....

Beginning February this is a new chapter in Buffalo Sabres history. I know......that's why people don't want to hang out with me. I'm a real downer. "Hey Sarah! How's it going? Good to see you at the office Christmas party this year. I figured you and George might not show given the fact George was banging his secretary in the copy room last year. Three months after your wedding nonetheless. Good for you!"
kishoph Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 Finley's really tall, so he'll be just like Chara! No we don't. Vanek isn't underachieving anymore. JOE FINLEY's going to be wearing KORAB's old #4, SABRES have had a couple of good defenders wear the #4, let's hope he's the next one.

Like our favorite honorary Buffalonian/NY Knight Roy Hobbs once said, "I guess some mistakes you never stop paying for."

I know that you've been a Sabres fan much longer than I have so it always feels like I'm learning a bit more about the team's history when reading your posts. Then when you say stuff like this it's solidified in my mind that you, sir, are fantastic. I'm in Roch this weekend playing timpani for the All-State Symphonic band, and my brother texts me to let me know that he got 9th row tickets to the Sabres game tonight, on one of the only Friday nights I can't attend a game. F*ck it. Lastly, the Harry Neale Drinking Game: Drink whenever Harry Neale does any the following: Calls someone a Tower of Power. (2 drinks if said person is shorter than 5'10) Finishes a statement with no indication of a finished statement. Gets someone's name wrong or pauses because he forgot someone's name. Tries to say how far away from the goal a shot was taken and is wrong by at least 15 feet. Says something that doesn't make sense grammar-wise. Says something that doesn't make sense. Says that somebody who got a penalty called on them will be in the box for 2 minutes or less. Tell me if I missed any.

Bullwinkle Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 If Detroit is the model franchise tonight will be a good indicator of just how far we have to go. GO SABRES! It's butt-kicking time. I have benched Enroth on my fantasy team for tonight. Might reactivate him tomorrow...not sure.

He has something Lorentz, Robitaille, and other "color" men don't have - HUMOR! His one-liners are great (e.g. "I think Crabb was pinching on that play") but it's too bad RJ never seems to catch on. Keep Harry!
Bullwinkle Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 I'm hoping the Sabres don't make me regret benching Howard in one of my fantasy leagues for this game. I'm practically willing them to win. Just read your post...as you saw, I did the opposite, benching Enroth! We're going to get our behinds handed to us, I'm afraid. I saw the Det/TB game two nights ago and was thoroughly impressed with both teams. I don't recall seeing us playing at that high a level in a long, long time.

Robviously Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 I expect everyone here wants to see this. If Finley looks good while he's up in the show, it'll happen at some point. They have the same overpaid, underachieving "top 6" they've had since Black Sunday. You're right that our Top 6 has been really disappointing since Black Sunday but you definitely can't say Pominville and Vanek are underachieving. They're our two best players this year. I'm fine with dumping literally anyone else who was on the team since Black Sunday and is still on the roster. This is why I'm not a fan of trading our prospects for a "name" player. The Sabres have the best group of prosepcts they've had in ages and their current group of veterans is a bunch of underachievers. I'd rather keep the young guns together and see what they can do. I don't think the veterans are one more veteran away from contending. Find a way to win with Pominville & Vanek + Miller/Enroth in net + Myers, Adam, Kassian, McNabb, Foligno, Pysyk, Weber, Gerbe, Ennis, etc. That's a good core and we'll still have guys like Regehr and Ehrhoff around for a few years.

It's not that I won't be cheering for them...that is always a given. But I have been with this team since 1970 - when I was 25 years old and just out of the army. I've seen a lot, which doesn't make me hopeful.
PromoTheRobot Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 If you see a guy by the glass near the face off circle in the Sabres end wearing a Pepsi cap jersey, that's me. PTR
kishoph Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Maybe DOUG ALLEN can get things shaken with this home game mess.
waldo Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Have they ever actually won a home game after that guy has sung (editorial liscense) the national anthem?
Pville29 Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Leino said that he feels so motivated to play against his former team that he feels like scoring a hat trick tonight.... then he started to laugh hysterically while counting his money
