qwksndmonster Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Boyes is out for quite a while, and stafford has been playing terrible. I guess we won't get Malkin then. Darn.
Weave Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 No questions, but a comment: Rule 1 is sort of an odd edict for the proprietor of a hockey message board. Maybe there's more tongue in cheek than I am getting off of it. And I get that you want to improve the quality of the content here and am well aware that you've been at this a while and know better than me on how to nurture a community that will generate traffic, but, still -- saying that 95% of the fans just shouldn't contemplate/post about trade scenarios seems to work against your and the community's interests. It's a message board. About hockey. If content subject matter on such boards were presented as a pie chart, trade scenarios would get shown as a decent slice. You complete me.
Weave Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 third man in: i read (well, eventually understood) scott as carefully stating a personal preference and opinion -- not laying out a rule or administrative policy. [/quote But doesn't the preference of the "man of the house"(sorry for the sexist connotation) eventually become the rule unless revenue stream is the prime motivator at which point he wouldn't bother publishing his preferences anyway? The only way it becomes rule is if he starts banning people for it. I doubt that happens. He's just blowing steam cuz he hates wading through madness as much as alot of us do and decided to editorialize about it.
5th line wingnutt Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Another general rule: The trade must work salary cap wise for both teams, floor and ceiling.

It's a message board. About hockey. If content subject matter on such boards were presented as a pie chart, trade scenarios would get shown as a decent slice. When he said 95% of fans, I took that to mean 95% of the general fan base, not 95% of the people here. I think a majority of the people here fall within the 5% and should be free to discuss whatever trades they want. On the other hand, we saw this summer what happens when the 95% become the vocal majority, and it isn't pretty. The problem lies in that many posters' only experience with trades is on NHL2K11 where anyone can be traded for a bag of donuts and Wayne Gretzky can be brought out of retirement. I believe many people confuse their virtual world with the real one. Decades of watching hockey and observing the trade market gives one a feel for value that the youngsters in our midst haven't developed yet. This is a long winded way of saying I believe SDS' cautionary words should be considered before posting a trade scenario, especially if the member had to lie about his age when registering on the site, and has never seen the Bills win a playoff game. Now that all that is out of the way, when are we finally going to trade Hecht, Boyes and 5th for Stamkos? I am also thrilled to hear that our backup goalie will be recovered enough to ride the pines this weekend.
qwksndmonster Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 You're always hating on us youngins, Korab.
dEnnis the Menace Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 You're always hating on us youngins, Korab. not really hating, just speaking from his past experiences here. isn't anything but a true stereotype (is it still a stereotype at that point?) there can always be exceptions kid.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 I am also thrilled to hear that our backup goalie will be recovered enough to ride the pines this weekend. Hey...the fashion show is Sunday....I'm glad he's showing battle.

You complete me. i will meet meet you at the flying bison stand on the 100 concourse for a big manly hug on saturday december 10. The only way it becomes rule is if he starts banning people for it. I doubt that happens. He's just blowing steam cuz he hates wading through madness as much as alot of us do and decided to editorialize about it. and this is where i came out (mostly) when i read his response. i dunno. between the premature closing of the miller trade rumor thread (and the snarky re-name), and then this bit of business today, i was feeling a little protective of the only virtual community i give a damn about. I am also thrilled to hear that our backup goalie will be recovered enough to ride the pines this weekend. noice. Hey...the fashion show is Sunday....I'm glad he's showing battle. :o

korab rules Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 i will meet meet you at the flying bison stand on the 100 concourse for a big manly hug on saturday december 10. I thought it was the 200 level of the Perry Street stairwell with Padron, a consent form, and cotton candy.
Weave Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 I thought it was the 200 level of the Perry Street stairwell with Padron, a consent form, and cotton candy. Wanna make it a 5-some?
papazoid Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Another general rule: The trade must work salary cap wise for both teams, floor and ceiling. how bout this one... this team still needs a #1 center.... the sabres took a stab at Ottawa's Jason Spezza last year.....give it another shot: Sabres give up any two of these veterans (roy, sakera, stafford, boyes, hecht) for salary cap purposes and any two prospects (1 forward, 1 defenseman) from rochester (thats the part that hurts).
tom webster Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Wanna make it a 5-some? Can I watch?
thesportsbuff Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 When there are rumors running rampant about a possible Bobby Ryan to Buffalo trade, I think it's more than fair for users to post and debate what would be a fair package for him. People have different opinion on players and their value, and I'm sure GMs do as well. 90% of the proposed deals I read on this board are probably not that far off-- sometimes the logic behind them doesn't make sense, but it is what it is. People have opinions. You may think they're stupid, but whatever, they come here to discuss this kind of stuff. I agree we don't need a new thread every day suggesting ridiculous trades out of the blue, but odd timing for this thread considering the past few days. There's been ALL kinds of trade talk and it didn't originate from snowmobilekid83598 randomly making a thread on here-- There were several news outlets reporting that Buffalo and Anaheim were in talks. To be honest, the most ridiculous "trade proposal" I've read didn't come from here or any online message board -- it came from those guys at NBC Sports ProHockeyTalk who said Miller for Bobby Ryan. lol
deluca67 Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Rule #8 - Every trade proposal must start with "If Darcy wasn't the Sabres GM, the Sabres could ......"
SDS Posted December 2, 2011 Author Report Posted December 2, 2011 This post was as near guaranteed as anything I have considered wagering on in my 40 plus years of chasing the dream. It's his site, how about if you don't like the rules you change the channel? Well, I titled it "A Fan's Guide..." so, it was more of my own personal musings on the topic than anything, nothing more. Obviously, there aren't any rules here on what can be proposed as a trade. We just are just entering the shopping season where teams are starting to look around. If this thread prevents just one Roy, Stafford, Boyes for Stamkos thread it would have served its purpose... And there are many people here who propose fine trades that take into account needs of both teams, contract implications, etc... DeLuca is particularly good at this to name one.
nbash Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 #5. If reading something that says "Eklund" (or any other so-called rumor site), immediately go run in traffic. It's theoretically different in the Pegula era, but in the past nothing made me snort harder than Eklund linking the Sabres to big money free agents or trades.
Marine0369 Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 Just throwing it out there but Roy and MAG for Spezza. Not sure if Ottawa would go for it.
