I'm confused as to the question - "Blamed" for what exactly? What might not be working anymore?

The team's inconsistency?

Perceived softness?

Can't win at home?

Number of injuries?

Lack of enthusiasm by the fans?

What do you think was working before that no longer is?

You're right.

None of this is news, yet people seem to think it is, just because it hasnt changed.

That said, who or what is the reason it hasn't?

A major problem for years has been the defensive scheme and those executing it. The Sabres defensemen generally don't stay home, especially on power plays (that's why we give up so many shorthanded goals), and frequently seem lost deep in their own end trying to figure out what to do and who to cover.

Furthermore, the d'men generally don't move the puck fast enough in the attack zone, which is especially noticeable on the power play when they and forwards at the point always have someone open but can't seem to find him before he gets covered. This is also why the puck movement at the point is less effective than it is for most other teams. Notice how the Sabres point men seem to be covered on power plays much more so than other teams' point men. Again, it's a puck movement issue, which translates to a coaching deficiency as it's been going on for years no matter who is at the point.

We need more solid, stay at home defensemen who hit. Regehr is a breath of fresh air in this regard and McNabb should definitely be what the doctor ordered with more experience (I hope he stays up and plays - get rid of Sekera). BTW, wouldn't it be great if Mr. 6'7" even remotely became a hitter? How to get Chara to inhabit Myers body???

I love the Sabres, live on the west coast and for years I never miss a minute of a game on DTV.

Have to say I am disappointed, they are getting out worked and out hustled in the regular season, after upgrading.

It just magnifies in the post season.

It's not a talent problem, it's not a coaching problem.......

It's a mental toughness, physical toughness, heart and grit problem.

Lately it's like a mini version of the playoff series the last two years.

Not easy to see it being fixed fast.

Keep Kassian and McNabb up here.

I'd go as far as saying we need a change upfront, a bit of a shocker. Someone like Roy or Stafford being traded for a natural center. I can't help but feel we are missing someone like Drury, a real worker who could put up points and was known for game changing goals. Our offense hasn't worked properly for over a season now short of a late spurt last season.

I must admit, I was swept up into "Hockey Heaven" with the multi-million dollar acquisitions and improvements that was the beginning of the Pegula era. I was a bit disturbed by the way he made his money with hydrofracking and the recent Penn State scandal (was he one of Sandusky's big donors? we'll never know), but the wave of good feeling swept over that. I even went over the top predicting the Sabres would have their best defense ever. I scoffed at the hockey experts who predicted all the expensive changes in Sabreland would fail.

It seems despite Terry's efforts and goodwill, he has assembled a team with an unbreakable core of stale incumbents, headed by GM Regier and Coach Ruff, with a sense of entitlement and the most disappointing team in Sabres history. I have to wonder about the Sabres "good old boy" network. I've always been uncomfortable that coaches and other key members of the organization are and have pretty much been former Sabres or Buffalonians and the same mediocre players have hung on year after year without any shakeups.

Despite having a very good farm system, the team has gone the route of expensive free agents and fat cat longterm contracts for those who don't deserve it. They've invested and gambled heavily in weak, fragile and misfit hockey players and I have a feeling that Pegula had a big part of shopping for the groceries. The $10 million locker room just added to the sense of entitlement. Rookie mistakes all for a rich and meddlesome owner. You have to wonder if the well known good-guy Pegula will be replaced by the Wrath of Pegula somewhere down the line. I'd be upset if it was my money, that's for sure.

Btw, just who is our strength and conditioning coach?

Why are you so afraid to say it?

Do you mean Miller? Are you claiming Miller has tuned Ruff out?

Ruff doesn't even coach Miller, other than to ask him if he's ready and to consult with him on issues affecting the team. Ruff doesn't know the first thing about coaching a goaltender, which is why Corsi is on board. Miller is the de facto captain of this team and has been since 8/1/07. Ruff has consulted with Miller on every major and minor decision affecting the team since then.

If you have an argument to make, make it. I can't even guess where you are going with this.

Easy big guy!! Stress kills!!

I have placed myself firmly in the "stir the pot" camp ... GODD is my hero!!

My first post in this thread and the first reply to the thread was designed to see whom would jump all over it and me. To be honest I was very surprised it was you Korab. You have turned the thread into a joke that I, for one, really did enjoy. I am just glad that the powers that be did not shut the stupid thread down, as that would have limited my enjoyment. It was the highlight of my day waiting for your next outburst. I spent the better part of yesterday imagining you red in the face with smoke coming out of your ears.

There is NO, repeat NO, arguement!!

Mr. Pegula is a good owner, Ruff is good coach, Darcy is a good GM and the players (core ...) are good players ... but wildly inconsistant and not (IMHO) the right mix to take us to the promised land. As GODD has said ... something has to give, but I am not sure what.

Now, Korab, I really do like your posts and think they are very well thought out.

I do think that everyone on this board, who appreciates the fact that I just made a fool of the great Korab, should "+1" me ... no hard feelings and I hope you take this for what it is ... in my opinion this board should also be FUN!!

I have always been a big Lindy and Darcy supporter, and through thick and thin have stood by them both. But even I now have to admit that maybe it is time to make a change, and move in a different direction. We have seen already the effectiveness of Kassien and McNab and hopefully Finley will be brought up to toughen the team even more. Pretty scary when the only teams we've managed to beat lately were the Hurricanes and the Caps, who both have fired their coaches! Makes you wonder...

You apparently have a different definition of making a fool of someone than everyone else on the board. If you would rather throw any credibility you may have developed out the window for the sake of amusing yourself, go ahead. I will now add you to the list of posters who are not to be taken seriously.

Red in the face and smoke out my ears? Hardly. Its the internet. People say dumb things all day long.

Oh, and you are now -3 and counting. And warned apparently as well. Wasn't that fun?

There's a word for this type of behavior.
