If he has the faith in the management that he has publicly professed and if he is going to follow the plan that he seems to be espousing, he will do nothing publicly. DR knows what the goal is, it's on him to continue to improve this team. Some improvement will come from having the players get used to each other; will that be enough to preclude going outside the organization to get them to be true bonafide contenders; probably not. So, let's see what other moves get made this season. If they are enough to make TP believe that the team is heading towards the goal, there won't be changes in management after the season; if they aren't, there will be changes.

But unless TP wants to be a Dan Snyder, I don't see a knee jerk reaction to a mid-season slump, especially when the team has had ~9 regulars go down over a 9 game stretch.

Right now is the 3rd most "termoil and discombobulation" I have felt around the organization in 5 years. I thought for sure someone was going to get fired on that Western road swing a few years ago. July 1st was a clusterbomb for some, but given the recent success, fans weren't marching in the street.

If....and that is a big if....the Sabres fail to gain traction at home the next few weeks...WATCH OUT. Some things just become too big. For all the reasons I mentioned, this is a tinderbox. If say even the team goes 4-4 the next 8 games, that puts them at 35 points after 40% of the season, and probably out of a playoff spot. If they go say 2-6....the vocal majority will probably be out for blood. Something like 6-2 will probably buy them until the end of the year.

If Team Stormcloud is the Soviet Union.....I can tell you that there are Missiles in Cuba right now and they CAN be operational in 7-14 days. I suggest Team Kitten Pegula USA use this intel accordingly and prepare to negotiate through the removal Staff Sgt. Regier and or General Coachforlife.

Over the Cap and $7 million sent away

$25 million in cash over the cap spent

Boston game Laughingstock

Miller playing poorly/whining/hurt/rumors

Loss to worst team in each conference within a week

Horrible all year at home in front of soldout crowds

Long-time Ruff supporters heading to higher ground

Taro coming out of the woodwork for detailed posts :D

We are on war footing. Let's see if they can play their way out of this and relieve tensions. Do you have faith???

Eh, you can't use my posting here as a sign of the apocolypse, the wife's car is hosed and since I normally work from near the house, I've switched to working FROM the house recently at least until I can get it into the shop next week. Sorry to ruin the conspiracy theory; although the thing that led to the car getting hosed was driving back from the Winnipeg game and running on fumes. So maybe it IS all related to Bobby Ryan Miller. ;)

And if they go 4-4 over the next 8 (assuming it's an even split W-L-W-L, etc) they'd be 3 points off pace to guarantee a playoff spot through 30 games. (2 - 6, again assuming even splits, would put them at worst 7 points off pace.) Not exactly apocolyptic but not great either. For comparison, the Bruins were about 9 points off pace 10 games into the season; they're now sitting very comfortably. If they are still performing poorly over the following 20 games, then I might begin to worry.

PS - If Team Stormcloud is the Soviet Union, you've been out of commission since before Scott started this board. ;)

That's your opinion. We'll have to agree to disagree for now.

Again, he's been very clear in stating what the goal is. He also appears to be giving his people the tools they've requested and the latitude to make their own decisions how to reach those goals. That is what smart businessmen do. He's made a few $B; which is something very few smart businessmen do. Because of the latter, he's in a position where the personal enjoyment of the team (aka WINNING it ALL) can take dominant precedence over the other goal for a professional sports team ($$$). But he's been very clear that his goal is winning multiple Stanley Cups.

Considering the background, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

And, while he may be a huge fan of #7, #11, & #14; he's never hung out at an overpass on a starry winter night in the southern tier listening to DR drive to the net. I don't see a reason to assume that the tail is wagging that dog.

Pegula didn't make his money in professional sports. He is a billionaire with a new toy. He's not counting on the Buffalo Sabres to put food on his table or to pay his rent. He is a fan with the ultimate EA Sports NHL 2011 Franchise Mode.

I actually think that going .500 for points through december would be a favorable outcome.

You are more optimistic than me I guess.

This team needs to buy some time for the next 4 weeks . 500 hockey does that.

But only 1 point out of the #4 spot.

18-15-4 at the end of the month would buy the time to get bodies back.

And should keep them in the middle of things.

Either way., I don't expect it to be pretty.

It is a realistic goal.
