dEnnis the Menace Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Not sure how I dropped LA out of that mix, but yeah, he should fit in there somewhere. Until the 1st line center shows up, these lines aren't half bad: Vanek - Roy - Ryan Gerbe - Adam - Pominville Hecht - Gaustad - Leino McCormick - Ellis - Kaleta (assumes Cody and Pat ever come off IR) And they can do a fair amount of mixing and matching. Those don't seem too bad. Looking at those, I cannot wait for Kass to develop a little more to fit in there. Figure next year (trending theme in Buffalo, ey?) we get the #1 center and Kass comes up, I also figure Hecht to be gone in all honesty. Those lines wouldn't look half bad either...
LabattBlue Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 If the Sabres offered Stafford, Ennis and a blueliner not named McNabb, I'd be surprised if Anaheim could find a better deal.
darksabre Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 For the record, I don't believe anything Miller says.
korab rules Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Sticky residue from the pop that spilled in the cup holder of your car? Sticky residue from the arcade floor at the dirty book store. Did you notice how I called him sir so it wouldn't be viewed as a personal attack?
darksabre Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Sticky residue from the arcade floor at the dirty book store. Hey, Debbie Does Dallas pinball is awesome! Edit: you're so gentlemanly.
korab rules Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Hey, Debbie Does Dallas pinball is awesome! Not that kind of arcade - the kind where you put in a quarter, the movie starts up, and the cover over the window next to you opens. Ask godd - he knows what I mean.
Samson's Flow Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 If the Sabres offered Stafford, Ennis and a blueliner not named McNabb, I'd be surprised if Anaheim could find a better deal. Even if you believe the king's ransom offer from Toronto? Doug MacLean of Sportsnet believes it would take "Schenn, Nazem Kadri(notes) and a first-round pick for the Leafs to land Ryan."

Yeah, if the Sabres are going to bring in a bit more top line talent, I don't see there being room for Jochen (nor Boyes) on the roster next year. I do expect they'll find a way to bring Gaustad back. Assuming Lindy's back next year, I'd expect they'll try to keep Jochen around as well; but I just don't see them squeezing the $3MM he'd probably be looking for back into the fold. I don't expect either to get a raise over this year's salary here or elsewhere, but Goose should come in at $2.5MM again.

That Aud Smell Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 good to see that the thread title was changed to something objective and balanced. I'd rather bang the drum for Iginla. Ryan is a nice player in that mold, but I want prison scars. yo, das raycess!
korab rules Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 You used to work there didn't you... No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express right near one last night...

nfreeman Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Too bad Darcy gave Stafford/Sekera $7 million a year. We still need a LEADER up front. I'd rather bang the drum for Iginla. Ryan is a nice player in that mold, but I want prison scars. I completely agree with the bolded part, but there's a real possibility that Iggy, prison scars or no, is in steep decline. His numbers are down 50% from last year and he was invisible when the Sabres played Calgary earlier this year. If the Sabres offered Stafford, Ennis and a blueliner not named McNabb, I'd be surprised if Anaheim could find a better deal. I agree with this (although I assume you're excluding Myers, Regehr and Ehrhoff from your list of tradeable defensemen). Adding Ennis makes the deal compelling. Even if you believe the king's ransom offer from Toronto? It's not a king's ransom. Schenn and Kadry aren't that good. Yeah, if the Sabres are going to bring in a bit more top line talent, I don't see there being room for Jochen (nor Boyes) on the roster next year. Ok so say that the Sabres offered Stafford, Ennis and Scheistel (just to pick one) for Bobby Ryan and misc parts. That would work? I only referred to Toronto's offer as a "king's ransom" in response to a previous poster's assertion. I don't claim to know the value of their players in the trade market.
korab rules Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Gaustad's agent is in talks with the Sabres as we speak. Seriously. signed through next year - cap hit of 2.3 - no trade restrictions. Is this relevant to Bobby Ryan or just getting him resigned well in advance?

I would think that Anaheim would want an NHL-ready defenseman, not an uncertain prospect, so I'd guess Sekera, MAG, Leopold or Weber.

Robviously Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 bring us Emerson Etem ;) It would be hilarious after what happened last December. He's also exactly the type of guy we need.

In response to an alleged offer someone linked to (queen city sports) claiming an offer of Schenn, Grabovski, Bozak and/or Kadri. I call that a King's ransom. Schenn just turned 22 and is in his FOURTH NHL season - to early to tell how good he will become. Grabovski is the second best player in Toronto's entire organization. Kadri is only 21, a 7th overall pick, and is the top prospect in their organization. Bozak is a decent young center still finding his way.
Calvin Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 As much as we'd like to have a top 6 power forward who scores 30 goals on a consistent basis.. that is not the most glaring need on this team. If we're going to ship out Stafford, Ennis, and a D-prospect.. I would only do it for a true top 6 center and a forward prospect. But hey, that's just me.
