Totally uninspired effort. Horrible play, no passion, no hitting, nothing. Lousy lousy effort tonight. Also, the injuries keep piling up now with Regehr out, too. This team is an AHL team on the ice save for a few guys like Vanek and Pominville, nobody else seems to be showing up and the defense core is going to the depths of where it was during the Carolina playoff series.

This is going to be a rough 4-6 week stretch with all of these injuries. I'm just hoping they can hang around in the standings long enough till everyone gets back and find the chemistry that's been lacking to start going after it and get some wins. Until January, this is going to be very ugly to watch in my opinion.

This team has clearly taken a step back. I want to reserve judgement till they get some starters back in the lineup but we've already had a quarter of the season to decide what we have and what we're missing. There's plenty of blame to go around. For starters when you have an owner that is involved in the player acquisitions that is problem #1. This is what I'll call the Wang conundrum. Problem #2 is one not everyone will agree with based on the many discussions we've had in the past but aside from a couple of good trades a decade ago and some good drafting and player development, I'm just not so sure Regier is the guy you want building your championship team for you. As I've said before he's had um what,14 years to accomplish that goal? To be fair he did have some financial constraints but they've been lifted and based on early returns he and tpegs haven't done too good. Does the poor record fall on Ruff who has also been around longer than lake Erie? I'm not sure. I like Ruff as a coach and he's respected around the league but does that bring you the cup? Not so far. So Ruff is potentially problem #3. The fourth problem is the core group who it seems attended preschool together. At what point do you as an organization say maybe this is just the wrong group of guys to build around? As high as the expectations were coming into this season I believe we were all in for somewhat of a letdown. Maybe we're sitting right where we should be. Maybe we really are this inconsistent and we're seeing the best these guys can do. I hope thats not the case and these guys can turn it around but I am losing faith. Fukc I'm pissed. GO SABRES!

I think two things you need to consider. First, there are a ton of injuries right now, and some teams will play through them, but 50% of the defense corp is injured and they are lacking some important bottom line guys who help set the physical tone that everyone feeds off of such as Kaleta and McCormick. In addition, while they have not performed up to par so far, guys like Boyes and Ennis being out hurts the secondary scoring or at least the threat of it. And then of course the fact that Myers, Weber, Regehr are out really hurt. And, don't forget Miller who is pretty important even if he has played subpar to this point.

The second thing to consider is that this team made a ton of offseason transactions and it does take some time for the team to gell. If we think back to last year, the Sabres made 3 albeit small acquisitions in Leopold, Niedermeyer, and Morrisonn and it took some time to gell. In fact it wasn't until December after Pominville came back and Roy went down did the Sabres finally get it together. I would not be surprised if the Sabres start getting their act together in the January timeframe. Let's just hope they can stick around long enough in the standings to make a difference.

Stop it. This is a Buffalo fan forum. Trying to be logical is not allowed. Please blame someone in management, or the captain, or Miller, or a skater who's been around for a while, instead.

“I have not heard one bad word uttered about Darcy Regier. I think that means he deserves to stay here. Why would I change now? I don’t know what happened in the past and I really don’t care. It’s about what we’re going to do and I know I can work with him in the organization.”

Yeah I see your points. I did mention the injuries which I hate to use as a crutch but you can't deny them. Even before all the injuries something wasn't kosher in Pegulaville. Some teams made more moves and they're doing fine. Philadelphia being one of them. And I would argue that the moves Philly made should have had more of a negative affect with the players they removed. We simply added high salaried guys and moved out plumbers. You never can underestimate what a plumber can bring to the room. We don't have the right mix for sure. Who does that fall on and how long do you give them to get it right?

I'm having a difficult time wrapping my head around the idea that we're just going through some kind of funk phase where we'll eventually snap out of it and start winning games. Whatever the case may be, the gears aren't meshing well right now.
