Sabre fan Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 Well, the Sabres' stood-up to Lucic and Chara, and everyone thinks that's great. I'm not so sure it really proves anything, as I still am convinced this team is way too soft to ever really compete with the "big" boys, such as the Bruins. Even more disturbing, the team managed yet again to blow early leads of both 2-0 and 3-1, and lose the game as well as the fights. I would have been happy if we had just won this game, but we keep finding ways to blow leads and lose. The team seems to be getting off-the-hook for losing because everyone is so quick to laud them for "standing up to the Bruins". This does not impress me, as it should have been done then-and-there. Which way do you see this game? Good or bad? My take is bad-bad, and until we improve our overall toughness, we cannot expect to truly compete or look for an extended playoff run. Maybe I'm too doom and gloom. Anybody who can convince me otherwise please by all means do so, as I want to believe in this team, and the moves we made.
Weave Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 The last three pages of the gameday thread pretty much cover this. Just sayin'....
JoDo Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 Did you forget there were two teams involved? The B's are rolling right now. Playing with skill and toughness. Thomas is out of his mind right now. The Sabres played a physical game and went to a shootout and Enroth matched the Conn Smythe winner almost save for save. Get over it, we went in, played tough and got a point. The sky is not falling.
LGR4GM Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 what bothers me most is that this is not in the game-day thread where it belongs. <_<

ozone Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 Loss. Sabres were physical enough. Who won/loss the individual fights is irrelevant.
nostyle126 Posted November 24, 2011 Report Posted November 24, 2011 What bothered me most was that Ruff was satisfied with the effort. Sorry, but I wasn't. We played one good period, and then lost the rest of the way 3-1. We stopped skating. We stopped checking. That has nothing to do with the fact that the Bruins are good. Ruff can't get these guys to play more than 20 minutes a game, and then says he's satisfied with the effort. THAT is what bothers me.

nostyle126 Posted November 25, 2011 Report Posted November 25, 2011 I'm assuming you watched the game? The whole thing, yes. The minute we hit the ice to start the second period it was clear that we had lost our aggressive edge (with few exceptions, such as Gerbe). By the third period we had totally backed off and coasted through a number of shifts, while the Bruins kept coming at us full bore. If this team is ever to be a championship team it needs to start playing full 60-minute games.

carpandean Posted November 25, 2011 Report Posted November 25, 2011 I think the change in play was more because of Ruff than the players. I don't think that we have any way of knowing this ... but if I were Terry Pegula, I'd sure find out.

WHO what bothers me most is that this is not in the game-day thread where it belongs. <_< CARES Carw Both the loss and this not being in the GDT bother me. WHERE His opinion is posted..Dont read it then if your that bothered by where the topic is posted at... Im bothered by both equally..Were to soft to win fights and stand up to other runs like Miller took, and blowing 2 goal leads twice in a game is very disturbing
TheChimp Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 I know I'm coming into this one way late, but hey it's the internet I'm allowed to do whatever I want. I think the Sabres' actions were a decent response to the fans' calling them a bunch of wussies and pretty brave, considering they (Goose and Regier) both picked guys they knew could seriously hurt them. Giving up two 2-goal leads to lose in a SO is typical, and so is the way they came out the next game in Columbus. Same old Sabres. They're due for a few good ones now, if my watch is right...
Sabre fan Posted November 26, 2011 Author Report Posted November 26, 2011 Hi Mr. Chimp...long time no hear. Great to see you back on here. The team does seem due for some good ones, but that "effort" versus the mighty Blue Jackets sure was a thing of beauty. wasn't it? Scary, scary bad...
tasker48b Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 Buffalo Sabres - Since we're renegotiating things, any chance we could update "the code" so that your goalie getting run over doesn't somehow make you obligated to let all the Boston Bruins punch you in the face repeatedly the next time you play? From "Down Goes Brown" blog, 'potential issues in the next CBA'
