Chirpin Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 I never have liked Roy, he is a selfish in it for me type of player. Everyone thinks he is a hero when he scores. My argument about the "top line" is does Roy make Vanek and Pommers better players when he is on that line, or does it make Roy just look better because Vanek and Pommers are just feeding him the puck all day. Now put Luke back in there.. we see passing, constant buzzing around the net, and chemistry... not Roy shotting and getting blocked or trying to Dance around the D all game and being poke checked. "Buffalo's issues lately revolve mostly around chemistry, which Lindy Ruff acknowledged Wednesday. It was just right in the second half of last season. The Sabres this year have had trouble putting together complete games. Other than their top line, which has carried them, they have mostly looked out of sorts despite their record."- Bucky Gleason Hmm who were we missing the second half of last year?...when did Vanek really started heating up last year?.... oh yeah, when Roy was out.
FolignosJock Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 Can someon please just start a thread for every player on the team and a horrible argument as to why they should leave the team??? Vanek- He is so streaky and he doesnt hit as much as I want, Sometimes it looks like he isnt trying, Why are we paying him so much to stand in front of the goalie. Gaustad- All this guy can do is win faceoffs, He looked pretty in like two games this year, he didnt defend miller. Miller- Enroth is better, "He doesnt win big games" (only if you discount all the big games he has won) Enroth- Macintyre is better he didnt even let in a goal last night. WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: This Message Board feels like it is slowly dying, it has yet to get to TBD levels but it seems headed for the same fate.

Why is it a horrible argument.. look at the teams stats with Roy, without Roy. Its right there, but because he scored a few nice goals in the past 3 games you are all up in his ballsack. Take some time.. look into it. Dont just go blasting my post. Did I complain about anyone else... NO. So dont take your pent up aggresion about sh!tty posts, and goobers who dont understand a thing about hockey out on me.

I didnt take it out on you I just took it out on your thread. I replied to you and said NO it is quite clear. While the wins and losses last year were obviously better without Roy that doesnt mean much. Roy is our best center and asking the question about whether Roy makes Vanek and Pominville better or vice versa??? I think the line is better with Roy and currently he is better than Adam (I think thats obvious). I dont care how many goals he has scored the last few games I have watched him for years now and he makes this team better. The right price for a young center that has the ability to score a PPG is A LOT and I dont think anyone would be willing to offer what Roy is worth. Every Player on Every Team has a price and I will always believe that. WOuld I trade Roy? Again, NO he is too valuable. I have never been up in a ballsack thought, but please, tell me how you like it...

I agree with some of your comments. I think Roy is a beneficiary of Vanek's play. I would rather see the top line continue to develop chemistry with someone other than Roy. I am not saying get Roy off the team, because he does produce. But I also think he is a liability -- especially on the PP point. During the Jersey game, Roy was responsible for the shorty and the PP goal, and I will even make a weak argument for the next one. The reason the draw was in the Buffalo zone on the 3rd goal was because Roy coughed the puck up and Enroth made a nice save. Buffalo lost the ensuing draw and NJ scored. Granted Roy did not have anything to do with the actual scoring play, he put them in a very poor position. I have never been a huge Roy fan. However, every year I give him the benefit of the doubt. This year, he had a slow start, in terms of producing, but he also wasn't hurting the team with turnovers. Now that he seems to have some confidence, I think he is trying to do more and it's a double-edged sword.

I am less critical of Roy's play than I am of his attitude. Admittedly, I do not know the guy personally. However, he has never shown me the grit and determination that I would like to see from the guy centering our top scoring line. I don't feel that Roy is a team player either. I do think his presence hurts the team's camaraderie factor. I wish I had more objective evidence of all of this, but I do not.
NowDoYouBelieve Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 For the right price, anybody can be had. However, the logic of "Well Roy got injured and the team played better...soooo, it must have been HIS FAULT!" doesn't make sense. Prove it. Also, what part of Roy's game makes him a "selfish me first type of player"? He's been one of our better distributors since the word go. Granted, I don't know the man's personal motivations (maybe he is selfish). But neither do you.

I have no problem with the topics, its the 2-5 threads about miller/enroth, or the 3 threads relating to the hit. Hope that clears this up. If I had a separate idea for a topic I would start a thread, if it is relating to Miller or Enroth I'll use one of the current threads.
LGR4GM Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! The only right price for Roy would be a number 1 center. Roy for Stastny straight up maybe but you would have to dump salary and so NO Roy stays unless a rediculous deal comes up and considering his offensive output of late this thread confuses me. Roy in the last 14 days has 5g 5a and is a +1

VansTheMans Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 Roy is part of the core. He's also the only legit center that we have that can put up a point per game. His value to the team is pretty high.

Instead of just saying NO like cvan, lets hash it out with some perspective. If you trade away Roy, you are left with this as center depth: Actual Centers: Adam Gaustad People that can/have played center/have heard of center: Leino McCormick Boyes Hecht (IR) Gerbe :nana: We need to trade for center depth AND keep Roy. No matter what you think of him as a player, we can't afford to trade him organizationally.
nfreeman Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 I've never liked Roy and would gladly trade him for a legit top 6 forward with guts and intensity. He's too valuable to just dump, but I think the team would be improved with a Brenden Morrow or Ryan Smyth or Dustin Brown type instead of him, even thought it could mean losing a center. And I don't think it's a coincidence that they played much better last year without him, or that the team has done exactly nothing in the playoffs since he became the #1 center by default. Although he missed the playoffs last year with injury, he was terrible in the playoffs vs Boston 2 years ago. He was also terrible last night.

If we could get round the endless threads saying we should trade away players for little reason or endless rant threads (most of which are horribly off topic by now) we would and largely we do. Everyone has to vent sometime though.

apuszczalowski Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 If the price is right, yes, I would trade him. I would dump him for picks or waive him, but if the return was for a good player or couple of players, he is definitly tradeable. There are few players on this team (if any) that I would say are off the trading block for the right price, and it has nothing to do with recent play or the standings. I don't think that Roy is all that special that he is worthy of being off the table, but he is a good player that shouldn't be given away. I have wanted to see the Sabres make a deal to get Foligno from Ottawa in some sort of deal, don't know what it would take, but with his dad a former Sabre and his brother coming up soon, it would be cool to see them together with the Sabres

Not only will his numbers go down so will Staffords. How many of those goals and pts came from the Vanek line or on the one pp line..+/- imo..is a horrible way to judge a players effectiveness. How many scoring chances and odd man rushes last night were his boo boos, how many times on the pp was he responsible for losing the zone? He is great on the pk .There should be a minus given to players who cause odd man rushes or cough up the zone on the pp..
