First Time I Can Remember

I did not watch any of the Montreal game because for the first time, I had zero respect for them. I would check the score from time to time, saw 2-0 and then just grabbed a book.

Something happened to me after that Miller hit and I can't really explain it. It was as though I felt guilty being a fan of a team that just sat there and did nothing. After seeing they won 3-2, I was definitely happy but I think it will take even more time for them to win me back. I don't think I will totally skip a game like that again but I'll tell you, it might not be the same for me until Boston comes here....

Its great they won .I really enjoyed the 3rd,the ot and the shootout. But for me I'm still in the letdown stage. Live and die for my Sabres but I'm hoping Darcy has something up his sleeve to 'fix' whats ailing this team. I'm not sure if its chemistry or what but despite their record which ain't bad they are lacking in a few areas. I do believe Weber needs a longer look and a chance to show what he brings benefits this group.

I think Darcy's plan was to build a tougher team through the draft. The Amerks right now have three heavyweights who should all be NHL players -- Kassian, Foligno, and McNabb. They might have a fourth if Riley Boychuk can be a fourth-line Cody McCormick type.

I think our timeline is out of whack right now because we went from rebuilding to trying to win the Cup in 2011-2012. It'll be interesting to see what, if anything, Darcy does to toughen up this year's team before the playoffs.

As has been discussed over the past few days, Kassian has been castrated. He's been working on "his game."

Anyway, I, too, feel dirty as a Sabres fan. Fortunately, I couldn't watch all of the game tonight because of a prior commitment. Wednesday ought to be a snoozer, but I am curious to know how the various story-lines develop between now and then.

I will give the Sabres one thing: since Pegula bought them, they have been an interesting team to follow. There's been no shortage of news and scuttlebutt.

What story-lines are there? Let's see:

The Miller hit and the Miller injury.

The team's softness.

Enroth.

The summer moves and their outcomes for the team.

Ruff (which consists of the sub-stories: Are Sabres fans turning on Ruff? Is Ruff to blame for the Sabres' soft hockey? Can he coach a team to a Stanley Cup?)

The PK.

The shootout.

The Sabres connection to Penn State.

A few lesser story-lines, but story-lines none-the-less:

The food at the F'N Center.

MSG HD on Verizon.

I'm sure I missed some, but the point is that they certainly haven't been boring. :death:

Not really.

Nice Albany River Rats avatar.

I have spent $2000 on this team this year, and fast forwarded through 50% of tonight's game when I got home.

Am I not a fan?

... and thats why the leafs have sucked FOREVER.

A true, real fan of the team, will quit when his team and the ownership of that team stop attempting to create a champion which is the ultimate goal of the fan. This applies to teams like phoenix and florida... I will be the first person to admit that after that dark day in july 07, that season I watched only about 60-70% of the games because I was disgusted with the team. I was still a fan but they did not earn or deserve more than what they gave to me. It is a reciprocal relationship. What makes a bandwagon fan is if you stop watching/cheering for 1 team to go and watch/cheer for another team because they are winning. Fans following teams blindly is a bad thing and like any business if you lose customers you have to make changes, in hockey that means roster/coaching/promotions. Being a loyal fan and being a bandwagon fan equate to different things.

If it makes you feel any better (spoiler alert: it won't), Enroth got hit while standing in his crease minding his own business and the Sabres did nothing about it, again. Granted it wasn't anything close to as bad as what happened to Miller, but you'd think they'd be sensitive to that kind of thing based on recent events...

It is a logo for my beer league team (if u can't tell it says rink rats, not river rats). Somebody who refuses to watch their team bc it's 2-0 is not a fan,

That was a great post. Very well said and I agree 100%.

You make no sense

Actually, you make no sense. If an individual decides that there is something else they would prefer to be doing instead of watching a Sabres game, then they are more than welcome to do so. Last time I checked, people are allowed to have opinions and feelings, and are allowed to act freely in a free society. Dismissing his complaint that he is discouraged and lacked desire to watch the team at the moment doesn't make him a bad fan, it makes you irrational and close-minded.

Anyone comparing the Cole hit on Enroth tonight to the Lucic train wreck needs to rewind the tape.

Jhonas actually tried to set a pick on Cole, who didn't get out of the way.

It was a sweet little move to draw a penalty. Our goalie was the instigator.

Does anyone else miss Larry Playfair or Rob Ray or Andrew Peters? The Sabres need a "specialist" to deal with guys like Lucic. Currently, the Sabres are not constructed to win the tough games (i.e. playoff games)

I hope Regier and Ruff figure it out before the playoffs.

BTW, I don't put too much blame on guys like Vanek and Pominville for not going after Lucic. They have a different role to play. However, later in the game there was ample opportunity for other guys to do something and they failed.

You are the idiot that ended your commentary with a comma, as if you had more to say.

It's only logical for me to wonder where your train of thought would end.

You obviously have no idea what's going on in FL. But, I digress.............

Oh, and to add my own opinion on all this, the Sabres are 11-6 and people are giving up because of a few sloppy games and the Boston disaster? Please.......... You people should sit down and watch some other NHL games. There is so much parity in this league now that you have to be dreaming to think any city will have a team that can dominate 60 minutes for every game of the year.To sit here and think Reiger needs to "fix" something 17 games into the season when you have 3 new players playing KEY positions not to mention the loss of three of our older veterans is just insane. Look what they accomplished last year through adversity. Not sure what it's like up in BFLO, but I just went outside and I can confirm that the sky is not falling.

Nonsense. Enroth was simply standing in the blue paint. He didn't try to get in Cole's way. He's supposed to be protected while in the crease - at least that's what the rule book says.

No such thing. There are arguements to be made for both camps. Why not just accept the differences in people (not just intended for you but yours was the post I picked on.)

Thank you. It was like watching the game last night, and Milbury and Jones were all over the Sabres..could have sworn they were dead last in the NHL if I did not know better.Yes, i wish they would have responded, just so the endless drivel from internet tough guys, most who would quiver and hide at the thought of Lucic pounding them into submission(me included) would not have started.

My quite ample gut tells me this was a good test of adversity for the boys, they responded in the 3rd last night, and this will bring them tighter as a team. Great lesson in game 15..as opposed to game 4 in the ECF
