Just a couple years ago, Matt Cooke popped Marc Savard in a similar blatant hit here in Boston and gave him another concussion. none of the Bruins players reacted. There was a media firestorm, the fans exploded, then in a few weeks it was over, people forgot about it..as it turned out, it was part of the learning process on the way to the Stanley Cup.

Concussions symptoms are rarely clearly understood. Miller was concussed late last Winter.

Repeated blows complicate things.

This. The hit was probably harder than what Crosby took and he's been out 11+ months. Reimer is still having issues with concussions. There is so much that we still don't know or understand about the hits to the head, cumulative effects, etc.

A Goalie controversy is a blessing.

Enroth has had a limited roll so far. This scenario is very bad.

Enroth has been good up to now, but should teams solve Enroth the season could be sunk.

I don't think the season would be sunk. The Sabres made the playoffs last year without Roy for half a season and Miller was 17th and 21st in save % and GAA. Miller wasn't fooling anybody last year.

But I certainly don't want him to be out because of injury. We need a 2 goaltenders. I don't think we'll be worse off with Enroth even if/when he starts to cool off a little bit.

Marc Savard is not to the Bruins what Miller is to the Sabres. I wouldn't equate the two - although I'm surprised the Bruins didn't go after Cooke since Savard is (was) a star on their team.

What the hell happened against Boston, I didnt get to see the game but from the highlights I did catch it seemed to be an epic fail night by Myers, complete collapse. Hell even Enroth let in 3 from that I coul tell.

Someone, I think it might've been in a gameday thread, suggested the possibility that Miller might be still suffering from last years' concussion. the post was immediately followed by the counterpoint of Millers' two playoff shutouts. Personally, I think there may be some validity in the premise. And a second ding is certainly concerning.

So what happens when the Defense plays like garbage and Enroth gets lit up for 4 goals in a Period? This shouldn't be a discussion on goaltending, it should be a discussion on poor defense.

exactly. The defense has been leaving our Goaltenders high and dry. Disgusting really.

You should really watch the video highlights on NHL.com. A lot of pretty 2006-07 type goals by the Bruins. ;)

(Note: the real answer was the utter collapse of our defense.)

As far as concussions go - they really should be renamed what they are - brain injuries.

Personally the stuff they learned from Rico still has me a little jarred. In my own life I am running into guys that played football hockey and boxing decades ago and who I'm now convinced are cognitively limited and have erratic mood swings.

There is an aura of invincibilty to our professional athletes. But seriosly if you wanted to seriously injure anyone it is very easy to do: any player could slew foot Lucic and break his neck if they wanted to - run Thomas and concuss him back no problem. But pretty soon it stops being hockey.

Today Shannahan will probably decide if the league will stand by its own rules - or teams will have to develop teams based on a culture of retribution. Which system is it going to be?

Think about it. The game at its highest level will belong more to cheap shots and thugs than the highest skilled players. w

But if you ask many people, that's exactly what hockey is. I can never understand why so many so called fans want to be associated with that image. There's an art to this game and it doesn't involve bashing in someone's face.

What if Enroth just doesn't lose? EVER!! :worthy:

Most likely what will happen

If Enroth was playing Saturday night, it would have been Lucic falling back onto the ice, losing his helmet and being out with a concussion......

Enroth will be #1 and Drew MacIntyre (not to be confused with current WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre) will be our #2.

This, I believe is a blessing in disguise, Miller is out now and we don't have the "goaltending controversy"

We all/most got what we wanted, Enroth as #1.

Lets see if he repeats like last year.

That is, until MacIntyre gets a start and shows that he is the next Hasek/Brodeur/Roy combined and never lets in a goal!

i wish it was the WWE's DrewMcIntyre coming in to play goal, then we definitly know one guy that would stand around and take crap from the opposing team. Anyone know if the big ginger Irish guy can skate??

Reimers own mother isn't even in the loop as to whats going on with him right now, but she came out and said he has had concussion issues in the past so it doesn't sound good for him

Mmmm a little thread clean up. That's nice. Ahhh.

Yes I agree.

The question, on topic, that I have is if anyone has any idea of MacIntyre's abilities? Is he a NHL-capable goalie?

From everything I had read in the offseason, he seems like a career AHL'er that is waiting for his turn in the NHL. No idea if he's capable...but the fact that he's been a career AHL'er so far kind of says something.

He's good enough to sit on the bench for a while. I'd imagine if Enroth goes down we sign someone else though.

It's such a strange position though. Remember, right up until the time of the lockout, Tim Thomas wasn't even good enough to be a career AHLer.

Very true. IDK. I honestly haven't seen the guy play (highlights or otherwise).
