Calvin Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 What are your feelings so far on how the special teams have been doing? The Sabres PP ranks ninth in the league right now at 20.4%, sixth at home and sixteenth on the road. The Sabres PK ranks second in the league at 90.2% 92.0%, and got their first shortie last night, fourth at home and fourth on the road.
korab rules Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Considering we scored 4 PP goals and a shortie last night, I am pretty pleased with our special teams at the moment. They have made a lot of changes, both in style and personnel, to the PP and it is paying big dividends.
Weave Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Not much to complain about, that's for sure. I mentioned back at the beginning of the season that the PP looks more West Coast to me. Much more side to side movement than we saw in recent seasons. It looks like they've discovered some new entry tactics as well. Also, the powerplay looked rather ho-hum when the units weren't moving the puck with alot of speed. The new tactics and plays work great when the guys out there move the puck briskly, but in the games where they weren't passing with as much pepper the powerplay seemed ordinary. The PK sure doesn't seem to be missing Connolly or Hecht. And they aren't really missing Kaleta right now either. RR looks like a rock back there.

I thought the PP could use some work, but going 4 for 12 or whatever it was last night was pretty impressive.
Eleven Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 They made Winnipeg pay for those justly deserved penalties last night, and that's exactly what the PP needs to do. 5-on-3 could get better. I remember this being a problem last season, too.
Drunkard Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I've been very impressed with our special teams so far. They are finally playing good special and not the kind of special you use to describe some window licker.
Calvin Posted November 9, 2011 Author Report Posted November 9, 2011 just 1 correction (probably a typo) but the PK is 92.0% :D corrected.. thanks.. still a little hungover
dEnnis the Menace Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 corrected.. thanks.. still a little hungover  HAHA well played sir.
kishoph Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Being the 9th ranked team on the PP, it's obvious that they're not doing that bad. I would like to see them get more shots thru from the point. The PK has been excellent so far, no complaints there.
shrader Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 I'm kind of curious to see how much longer teams will even bother to cover Gragnani when he's out there on the point. Just fill every single passing lane when he has the puck and then Buffalo is completely shut down.
RazielSabre Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Seems inconsistant on the PP, but much better this season than last season. I can't help but feel we will only take shots from the slot and won't make them most of opportunities from the outside if the slot is closed, but that might be just me.
