Eleven Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Whom do you keep after Kaleta comes back?
LastPommerFan Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Ellis, fewer mistakes in our end.
LabattBlue Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I'd give Tropp a few more games after Kaleta comes back to see if he can continue to build on his efforts to date, but I have a feeling he is going back down. Ellis does nothing for me. Both on and off the scoresheet.
thesportsbuff Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I voted Tropp, but that opinion is based on what, 12 minutes of ice time? I like what he has brought to the table. Showed great composure in scoring his first goal, maintaining his balance in the slot area and finding his own rebound. Though not quite to the extent that Kaleta does, Tropp certainly brings that more physical element and appears to have a pretty good sized frame to use to his advantage (I don't feel like looking up his exact height/weight). I think it's more likely that Ruff sticks with Ellis... Of course, there's still a couple games before a decision has to be made -- if Tropp nets another goal or two and continues to play pretty mistake-free hockey, I think it would be hard to send him down -- but I think if Kaleta were coming back next game, it would be Ellis sticking around. Ellis hasn't necessarily had a huge impact, but as far as I can tell he's played a pretty safe and responsible game, and certainly hasn't done anything to deserve to lose his spot.
samothyev Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I voted Tropp. Ellis is most likely going to stay because Lindy likes it safe...
Weave Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Tropp has more offensive upside and physicality. Ellis is safe. I'd rather see the young guy with upside show what he's got. Ellis can always be recalled down the road if Tropp starts to be a liability. But I'm certain Tropp will be sent down and Ellis will continue to work hard and produce safe shifts.

With the number of errors from the regular roster, I would choose the "safe" guy to fill in until Ennis/Hecht come back. If we were playing even moderately responsible hockey, I would totally want to give Tropp a more extended audition for the big show, I love his play, especial between along the boards in the neutral zone and in front of the net. But Ellis can take more minutes without errors, that is what we need right now.

Ellis is averaging under 8 minutes per game as well so it isn't like Lindy is trusting his line to eat minutes before Tropp was in the lineup. The guys on that line get 3 shifts per period regardless of the RW.

I'd rather be in a position to keep Corey in, but I don't think that would be justified right now.
darksabre Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 F*ck it, I'll take Tropp. If for no other reason than that I like to say Tropp Gun.
Chirpin Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I'd give Tropp a few more games after Kaleta comes back to see if he can continue to build on his efforts to date, but I have a feeling he is going back down. Ellis does nothing for me. Both on and off the scoresheet. I agree, however Ellis brings a strong surge of energy when he hits the ice and fights for the puck. Tropp I am very impressed with.
Samson's Flow Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I'd like to see Tropp stay up a little longer, if only to see if he can maintain the strong game that he has brought with limited minutes thus far. Very pleasantly surprised with what Tropp has contributed over two games. That being said, Lindy is going to keep Ellis over Tropp nine times out of ten.
Eleven Posted November 9, 2011 Author Report Posted November 9, 2011 Hey Eleven, what's your take? Very similar to yours. I don't want to be perceived as the guy who is always wanting to run Ellis out of town (like I was with Connolly and Stafford, although I have toned it down a bit with the latter); I like his work ethic and that means a ton to me. But I just don't see Ellis as a player with NHL-level skill, even though he has an All-Star heart. I also am wary of Tropp because of his dirty play at Michigan State. I hope it's behind him. But all in all, I'd rather see the guy who might be a gamer rather than the guy whom we know never will be.
RazielSabre Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I voted Tropp. Ellis is most likely going to stay because Lindy likes it safe... Agree with this sentiment.

His got great energy but he wouldn't make the cut on most contending teams, I think Tropp might make some of the others a little more honest.
HopefulFuture Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I went with Tropp, for no other reason than to inject some youthful energy into this lineup. He isn't the speediest guy, nor has he proven yet to be an Ellis type workhorse, but I want a guy in there that can run up and down the ice a couple times and use some size to his advantage.

We all know Ruff will keep Ellis, but I want Tropp. He has decent size and more skill than Ellis. He has played with great effort and was rewarded for it last night. I want Tropp BECAUSE of his dirty play at Michigan. We need more dirty in the lineup.
LGR4GM Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Tropp, hes young, has a future on this team, and hes development is more important than anything Ellis brings... I would keep him up but if he starts to edge closer to being Waiver eligible send him back down, he will get more ice time in Rochester.
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I voted Tropp and hope Lindy realizes yes Ellis is safe pick however this is the fourth line we are talking about
... Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I'd rather he kept Tropp up, too. This time playing with the big boys should do wonders for his development when he goes back down. The idea of keeping Weber and Tropp in the line-up permanently is very appealing - there is some much needed grit on the front and back ends. The rest of the team is still finding their legs, but winning, they can afford to let Weber and Tropp get up to speed with them.

I would keep him up but if he starts to edge closer to being Waiver eligible send him back down, he will get more ice time in Rochester. I agree with this, but this is why I would say to send him back down. Four games under his belt, he's only got 6 more to get called up for. I also feel like maybe this thread should be initiated after Saturday's game? Ellis is definitely (edit: I knew I'd grind some gears for making it seem as if my opinion was fact...) in my opinion the call as of now, but hey, maybe after two more games, Lindy will see something in Tropp that'll make him keep him up for a couple more games at this point. Perhaps another question that could be asked after Saturday is who would be most likely to get called up next injury?
inkman Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I agree, however Ellis brings a strong surge of energy when he hits the ice and fights for the puck. The energy you are seeing is Ellis' legs moving twice as fast as everyone elses so he can skate twice as slow as everyone.

I thought that after an AHLer plays his tenth game of the season, he then has to pass waivers to go back and forth to the NHL?
