that ship sailed a while ago insofar as our local beat reporters are concerned - their write-ups have long been replete with editorial commentary.

in truth, i'm not even sure that there was ever an era where sports reporters went about their business a la joe friday, but that expectation is there on my part, just the same.

I know, and the world is a worse place for it. Nothing worse than a reporter with an agenda. I don't need someone to tell me what to think of the news. I particularly don't need some journalism major interpreting world or national politics, or some fan boy whose last sporting experience was riding the pines in little league trying to explain why or D-zone coverage sucked last night.

I most particularly don't need to hear some local beat reporter in a minor newspaper market with an axe to grind taking every opportunity to slam a player. I most definitely think that his pee pee got smacked by someone, and I hope this board had something to do with it.

Not just sports reporters, either. Reporter's bias has been around for as long as there have been reporters.

I'm not sure why Ryan has been letting in 4-5 goals a night lately but maybe he isn't completely healed from that concussion he got last year. Look at Crosby... I wasn't aware that Ryan got his concussion by getting hit in the mask by a shot. Here's a recent article about change needed in NHL goalie masks.

Also, Ryan's problem can be accentuated by the fact that NHL shooters have long figured out that depth perception from shots from the blue line and behind the net are a problem for our starter with the crooked eyes and mis-shapen head with the unexplained scar.

But we've been giving up big rebounds.

ahh, well done. well done.

i've heard this kicked around a bit of late. the idea that miller is struggling because of some undisclosed post-concussion symptoms does not make sense. if he had such symptons, then he would (should) not be playing. i presume that he would not be playing if symptoms persisted. this theory also doesn't square with the fact that he started strong this season.

apologies if this is self-evident, but i am not familiar with your content -- this is a joke, yes?

Unexplained scar...is it...could it be? Oh my God.

Ryan Miller is Harry Potter.

Ryan Miller is Harry Potter.

Gold, right there.

As for the post-concussion injury stuff, why not? It's a human condition that "I'm fine, let's play" wins out over "maybe I should sit down". To a certain degree our culture is hyped up with "men play thru pain" and whatnot; look at how pissed people *still* are for Hasek taking himself out of a game back in 2000 (?).

if he were *really* harry potter, nothing would go in the net. he would just yell something like "freezio PUCK!" and it would drop to the ice.

come on ... no one *really* thinks he's harry potter. sheesh.

right, everyone? right ...?

is it possible, yes, but then how do you explain the Philly series and having 2 1-0 shutouts?

I just think its a combination of it being early in the season, and the defence is playing horrible in front of him making him face 40+ shots a game most nights, and giving the puck away in bad areas. with miller the defence seems to relax probably thinking he can pick up their slack and make the play, while with Enroth they are playing a bit tighter and more protective because he has less experience. I won't take anything away from Enroth, I have always liked him as a goalie (I'm just annoyed at the fan boys falling all over him as if he is Hasek already in his short career), but he (like the Leafs this year) have rarely faced a really tough team, and he did keep the game close against a weak Columbus team who were brought back into the game by scoring 2 goals on him and blowing the 2-0 lead.

i just don't understand the fans that have to have it as one or the other. We all wanted a more capable backup behind Miller so the team could confidently give Miller a rest without worrying that it will be a loss, and now that we finally have that, fans want to trade Miller away and give the backup the starting job with less then 30 games of career NHL experience. But it is Buffalo, where the most popular player is always the Backup
