Zorbas is old hat though. He's been in the game for so long that other, younger competitors are starting to encroach on his play. Obviously it will be sad to see Zorbas go some day, but I don't think he can take as much credit as he used to.

Sounds like a thread I saw around here recently that should have been aborted...

Should we make Zorba's the disciplinarian overseeing all the late night eateries? I'm thinking he would hand down lots of health department closures, despite the fact that his own kitchen hasn't been cleaned since the 80's.

I think many would question the legitimacy of such a move by a long-standing player in the late night food game who may have motivations of his own. Zorbas is a great player, but I feel there would be some residual bias, especially in incidents involving longstanding rivals such as Louie's. This is a slippery slope.

Louie's couldn't clean Zorba's grease trap. Today's players are soft - they used to try and dish it out like in the good old days, but now the players and their sissy fans whine about a little food poisoning. What did they expect? If you want to play in the late night food game, you've got to expect the occasional bout of gastroenteritis. I don't think most of these pukes even contracted e. coli from playing the game - I think their inflammatory bowels were pre-existing conditions, or due to their candy ass nature.

There are lots of pleased patrons with full stomachs who don't $hit for days after enjoying a late night meal fit for a king. If the players aren't tough enough to play the game, maybe they should just stay home and enjoy brie with water crackers.

Late night food is a tough game for tough people.

I've played some of the toughest. I've had food poisoning from Louie's several times, but that doesn't stop me from going to the boards with a 2 up with fries and a coke.

Hillview, while having changed its image a bit, is still the same tough cookie it always was.

My fear is that players like these will be punished unfairly for dealing out the same kind of smash mouth eats that Zorbas has always been known for. It's a double standard that scares me.

Seriously? Or is that just part of the food analogy we've been rolling with?

It's funny that we're not mentioning food poisoning after I mentioned the nachos. There's a really good place out here (I know calvin's familiar with it) with great nachos. Unfortunately, about 2 years ago I got food poisoning along with 2 other people. The only shared meal we had over the course of that day was nachos from that place. They're so good, but those nachos may forever be ruined for me. I've been back (they have a great beer list) and had other things, but never those nachos.

Fries? Fries are the the eye shield of the late night food game. Before the sissification of the game people never ordered fries. Fries are plunged in 500 degree oil until every germ and virus is killed. How "safe". I would rather eat a gas station microwaved bean bomb before letting fries sully my plate. They call them french for a reason, you know.

It's true.

When you ate there as much as I used to, the odds weren't in your favor.

Zorbas serves their combos with fries. Maybe they aren't as tough as you think.

It's pretty hard to blame explosive diarrhea on the food you ended the night with after drinking 20 drafts and several shots of mystery booze containing unrefrigerated fruit juice.

I always figured I earned whatever happened the next day.

I regret nothing.

Just because it's an option on the menu it doesn't make them soft. Zorba's is the Craig McTavish of the late night food game - the last of its kind.

You are referring to the dreaded beer sh!!!ts that come after a night of heavy drinking... those are caused by alcohol poisoning and not food so as today is a watershed in the history of this board, I agree with that food can not be blamed for post drinking food poisoning, unless of course your defense/immune system is playing well and you havent drank anything than it is totally food poisoning and food poisoning should own up to it!

Where is Zorba's located at? I always enjoyed Texas Hots on Seneca St (on the West Seneca/South Buffalo border). Nothing like a couple of slimers at 2:am.

Safe? Tell that to all that cholesterol clogging my arteries. Fries are a big fan of the slow and painful death, not the quick bullet to the brain.

Salsa? Now that's the kind of outside the box thinking that we need around here.

Whats so out of the box with Salsa for Nachos, I thought the 2 items were made for each other?

Also, wouldn't salsa be more "out of the Jar thinking"

Right, they work you down over time. The Sugar Creek Burrito Bomb might be able to lay a few good licks in here and there, but eventually it gets caught with unsafe contents, and suspended. They might be able to win a game, but the Fryers are going to wear you down over the course of a 7 game series.

Right as I'm about to question the batteries in your sarcasm detector, you throw that second line out there.

Most intense shiss I ever had was after killing a 12 pack of Sam Adams Octoberfest one might two Augusts ago. I never knew one could just ###### beer. Straight beer. Bluhbnbjhhgjj.
