gpsabre Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 I would have to say this team has collapsed defensively!!!!!!!!!!! The last 3 games have been an absolute disaster. What the H#$#%% is going on????
OverPowerYou Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 82-10=72 That's how many games we have left. With 4 new players (I include Adam) they are getting to know each other still. Wait a few weeks or months and they'll be one of the hottest teams storming their way into the playoffs.
Andrew Amerk Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 What??? None of the goals tonight were caused by the poor play of any defensemen. Goals 1 and 2 were all Miller. Number 3 was all Roy.
Andrew Amerk Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 Also... Please name one team in the Eastern Conference that has allowed less goals than our Sabres so far this season. Good Luck.
dudacek Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 We haven't had many of those runs where a team has cycled relentlessly on us, or dominated us in zone time this year. We do seem to be getting caught up ice more often. But I really think we've lost three of our last four because only two forwards are producing and we've had some odd shots squeeze through Miller. Not because of our defence. And anyone who says 9 goals in their last three games (it's 13 in their last six, BTW) is a disaster doesn't really know what disaster means.

There is not an eastern conference team with less goals against than the sabres. That being said how many other teams have given up several 2 goal leads at home?

RazielSabre Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Doesn't it come down to our lackluster effort, lack of determination late on in a game, especially at home?
Marvelo Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Buffalo can't score goals is the bottom line for me. Defense have made a few bad plays so far and so have the goalies (goalie) but so far Bflo has only given up 4 goals in one game (usually the number you need for a win) twice in ten games.

But we've only been shut out once and put up 3-4 goals in every game since. Could it just be one of those funks where everything is being done right but the score isn't, or maybe bad clutch/end of game play by the 'depth' on the team. If I have to single anything out though I would have to say there is no leadership on defense, Regehr is too new for that role, Myers needs to get his groove back and while their playing 'well', thats all we have, not 'impressive', but well.
X. Benedict Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Missed seeing my first game in years but...never believe the October statistics. Teams are never as good or as bad as they seem in October. Defensemen especially are never as good or as bad as they look in Oct. (Last year Myers was terrible and it looked like Monty was ready to win the Norris). Of course everything still counts, but anomolies start to even out as teams adjust to scouting. Columbus isn't as bad as their record and Toronto isn't a 125 pt team.

I think thats some of it. I also think that the Sabres aren't aggressive enough. Right now, it seems like they don't have the "step on their throat" mentality. Also, it seems like they are not wearing teams down either. Other posters have said that they are poking their sticks (poor phrasing) at pucks, rather than putting a body on somebody. I think I agree with this more.

Thats true, the one thing we have is the knowledge we can perform better, rather than hoping we can.
RazielSabre Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Going back to last season, Tyler Myers hasn't scored a goal in 30 regular-season games. From the power rankings on nhl.com, wow. That's a while.
Weave Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 From the power rankings on nhl.com, wow. That's a while. I hadn't noticed that. I will say that we haven't seen as much of Myers galloping into and through the offensive zone like we saw from him his rookie year. He was like an oversized Phil Housley at times. I'm sure he's been asked to pick his spots. I wonder if he just isn't comfortable making the decision of when it is right to go. He does still seem to forecheck and get in deep from time to time, but he doesn't seem (to me anyway) to go for the end-to-end rush like he used to.

I hope he doesn't feel he has to stay back, I half hoped that with Regehr he would be able to go for it more offensively.
spndnchz Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 After todays practice it looks like Weber might be back on Wednesday. Lindy said "not necessarily" when asked but Grags is off the powerplay teams.

Lindy said "not necessarily" when asked but Grags is off the powerplay teams. I hope someone sits for Weber, even if it's Myers to light a fire under him. EDIT: Not saying thats likely, just that it's an idea, MAG makes most sense though. Personally I think it's down to how people are playing.
Andrew Amerk Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 THE WHOLE DEFENSE SUCKS!!! Time to get rid of them all (except Weber, of course), and bring up McNabb, Biega, Finley, Mmorrris$sonn, and that one guy. Lindy can lace em up and be the 7th man.

Number 3 was all Roy. Allowing the opponent to have 40+ shots a night is not a good thing from the defence and the players in front of the goalie Goal #1 was from a weird angle and on occasion, find their way into the net, goal 2 is not all on Miller, the first save took him out of position and it seems like he was unclear where the puck was after the save, where was one of the defencemen to pick up the puck afterwards or keep the guy from bringing it around for the goal?
