Enroth is starting to remind me a little of another Sabres goalie...

Thank you LastPommerFan,

I'll continue to be hopeful, especially given the atmosphere change with ownership.

I'd like to think that no matter which netminder is between the pipes, we acheive success.

On a parting note, yes, I believe early on, Enroth does remind me of Hasek, only somewhat in his style of play, but more so in his demeanor towards the game and the way he carries himself. And ya know something......I like it a little....well....a little more than just a little to be honest with you.

So here's to the future........

WHAT dont go this is just starting to get good

Why were talking about just elimination games? IDK, but that article is misleading and does not include the 10/11 Flyers series. He is actually 7-6 in elimination games, 1-3 the past 2 years post CD/DB. His GAA in those 13 games is 2.77 and .912 sv%, nothing spectacular, and in 7 of those games his team has had to score at least 4+ goals if they wanted to win the game, not stellar by any means.

I agree with Hopeful 100%, lets see what Enroth can do.

Miller is the man. but..... after Enroth's play toward the end of last season (one enormous game after the next) and his start this year, I am completely comfortable envisioning Enroth in goal as the man, not the backup man.. So Miller is the man for now, but there is a bona fide threat out there now to his starting job...

Just out of curiosity, will there be a Enroth is better then Miller debate after every freaking 4th game that Enroth plays in? Because until Enroth plays at least 50-60 games we really don't have a solid body of work to hold up to anything that miller has done... which includes a Vezina, Olympic MVP and a presidents trophy... I would like to point out that RYAN MILLER the American WON the MVP of the OLYMPIC HOCKEY TOURNEY IN CANADA even though CANADA won GOLD! 1 player wins MVP and it was Miller. His team was garbage against boston that year and game 7 of the philly series looked like Miller v. The Flyers because the rest of his team BLEW! Miller is not Hasek, he will not carry a team on his back to a cup, but he would assist a team and be a great asset to any team that did win the cup, in other words he is really really good but he is not GREAT, and Enroth is unproven but looks good (again not great) so just let it go. The Stanley cup champs outside of Boston in the last 6 years have had really good but not great goalies... just saying.

Then what would you classify as being "great"? I mean he's 9-0-1 in his last ten games, yes those games are spread pretty far apart but nevertheless if someone is pulling wins like that than I thinks it's pretty safe to say they are more than just "good". Wouldn't you agree?

Hopefully in a few years, he will be our number 1. For now, miller is and will be the number one. If anybody thinks that we should trade miller, look back at last Tuesday against montreal, if we had enroth in, we would have got smoked. Enroth will push miller to be a veznia contender again and miller will give enroth a shove towards being a starter when he retires.

YES!!! More like this. A great new point in the bolded sentence. No threats on anyone's life. No poorly phrased insults. YES! YES! and YES!

Enroth is a very gifted goalie who's focus is on display each game he plays.

Miller and Enroth should be a very good tandem this season, I like both goalies.

But I have to wonder, does Enroth have the ability to do what Miller does not...........Perform In Big Games?

We shall see.......

Surely you can't be serious.

Surely you can't be serious.

Why can't I....and stop calling me shirley

All kidding aside for a moment, I am serious, the overall outcome of Miller's tenure in net with the Sabres speak for itself when it comes to big games as well as the Gold Medal game.

I don't live in the gray or shadow area's of the sports world where almost or just short of good enough gets it done.

Nothing short of success in those instances where it counted would change my opinion.

He has not achieved that as of yet, not to say he won't or never will but as of now he hasn't performed up to par in clutch situations.

There are those games he has, I openly admit, achieved success, but not in the pure definition of "a clutch performance" game such as a series (season) make or break as well as the Gold Medal game.

Sorry, but to me, Miller is highly overrated, he is in the 5 to 7 range of goaltenders to me, not the 1 through 4.

When he performs at the clutch level in high intensity situations with a tournament or season on the line, then I'll reconsider.

I disagree with stating "Miller has not shown to be a big game goalie" as being FACT. Starting in college:

  •
  • At MSU he won 2 CCHA championships as a starter and his NCAA Frozen four losses were both a result of the Spartans failing to score a single goal against Colorado College and North Dakota. Can blame the goalie for letting in one goal (+empty netter) and failing to win.
  • At Rochester in 03-04 he put up 2 shutouts and a god-like .934 sv% in the calder cup playoffs.
  • In Buffalo he's taken the team to 2 Eastern conference finals. One he lost because he literally had no defensemen left in front of him, and the other because the entire team vanished in front of him (Hecht and Afinagenov we the sabres leading scorers for the series)
  • In the 2010 playoff loss to the bruins, he still managed a spectacular .926 sv%
  • In the olympics he got scored on 1 on 1 with Crosby. Take any goalie ever, in his prime, and Crosby scores that goal 9 out of 10 times.

I agree that the Sabres have had a problem at crunch time, that problem has not been Ryan Miller. But if Jhonas is even better...that would be awesome.

There seems to be a hidden theme to your post.

An important point which has not been brought up in this thread is also a really simple one. Are the Sabres a better team with Miller in net or with Enroth in net and another $6 mil top six forward(not another Lieno)on the roster?

The level of goaltending Miller gives you compared to Enroth is also not worth the disparity in price. That is clear at this point.

Let's ditch him and go with Corey Crawford. It'll work.

This can't even be talked about for a goalie that hasn't had the starter role yet, can the little guy play 60-70 games a year?

Can Miller? We all know the answer which is why fans want Enroth to get more starts.

Good answer......do I need to post the stats?

Go ahead and post Miller's stats. Miller can be the Dan Marino of NHL goalies, I think of Miller more like Curtis Joseph, it doesn't matter. Joseph and Marino have one thing in common, no Championships.

Maybe he's the John Elway or Payton Manning

Downgrading the goalie to an unproven rookie and keeping good forwards is EXACTLY what Chicago tried after the cup.

But this is a tired argument, we both know where we stand. You can't lose with your stance. Miller retires with no cups you win, Miller wins a cup We both win. Even you hope I'm right.

Didn't Chicago win the Cup with an "unproven" goalie?

Does the fact that Joseph's career is over and Miller is nearing his prime come into play? Or should we just assume he'll never win like most did with Tim Thomas and move on?
