That Aud Smell Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 any word on who is centering that adam-roy-stafford line? EDIT: roy is, with adam at LW. Isn't that more through effort, hustle rather than anything else? i'm not so sure. there are guys who just don't seem to have their mojo working -- myers and leino come to mind specifically. Well, I wanted to see Leino centering for Vanek last summer, and I like the idea of Leino on the half-wall or the corner finding Pommer in the slot, so I'm fine with this. And Adam-Roy-Stafford sounds interesting. Bottom line is that the Sabres need to get Leino going. Right now he looks like he's totally lost his confidence, so maybe putting him on the top line is Lindy's way of giving him a confidence boost. good call. Maybe I'm just pessimistic, but based on what's been said and what's happened recently, I'm not expecting to see Hecht in the lineup before Thanksgiving (and even that might be optimistic). I hope I'm wrong, both for the team and for Yo-yo. in view of the way that crosby's case has evolved, i no longer have any expectation that a guy with a concussion will be back in the lineup on any predictable timeline. (connolly's case seemed to be a horse of a different color, IMO. it's the way that crosby has managed his recovery -- and how other players may seek to emulate it -- that leaves me with no expectation re: 55's return.) EDIT: i now read from vogl that hecht has been placed on IR.
LabattBlue Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 EDIT: i now read from vogl that hecht has been placed on IR. Not a good sign for Hecht's return any time soon. I wonder if there is a trade before Xmas for a 3rd line vet forward, who can play center or wing, and fill in on the top 2 lines in a pinch? I know many here would like to kick Hecht to the curb, but I still think he is a valuable forward on this team, and would be missed in the spring if he is not able to return to play.

IR - creating a roster spot for someone - no need to do it unless they are going to call someone up - What forwards are playing well in Rochester?

EDIT: i now read from vogl that hecht has been placed on IR. How specifically is that Hecht thing worded because he's been on IR the whole time. And as for Crosby, I'm sure that the league has had their hands on that one the whole way. They're going to go out of their way to make sure their premiere player isn't at risk. Pittsburgh would obviously feel the same exact way.
That Aud Smell Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 How specifically is that Hecht thing worded because he's been on IR the whole time. fwiw Jochen Hecht, who was placed on injured reserve over the weekend, is not skating with the team. http://blogs.buffalonews.com/sabres/2011/10/sabres-leino-gets-his-shot-with-vanek-pominville.html
Weave Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 IR - creating a roster spot for someone - no need to do it unless they are going to call someone up - What forwards are playing well in Rochester? Derek Whitmore seems to be the guy right now. Tropp and Kassian each have 7 points but both are minus players right now. My bet is there is no roster moves yet. They'll run with no spare forwards knowing that Mag can play on the wing in a pinch.

No offense to you please but I find it comical that we are waiting for Hecht to come back to cure our center or forward woes..LOL..He sucks at center and for the most part other than killing penalties he is pretty much worthless imo..I could care less if he plays or not..I would rather us get a real center in here instead of the crap we have been pawning off as centers for the past 3 yrs

I would go with Tropp. He seems to have some offensive potential, but also has a little grit to his game. I've gone on record already, but unless it is an absolute emergency, Kassian and Foligno spend the entire year in Rochester.
wjag Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Just catching up on the thread.... Some excellent comedy in here.... well, at least the guy got bigger in the process. :bag: Well played. Life can be tuff on the Lindy Go Round. Maybe he should use the Vanek approach on Leino. Get him out there on the PK point to block a few Chara slap shots then go directly to the disabled list. And another... Is he fluent? This one and the next one back-to-back are a gem.. No ... he's Finnish
Derrico Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Does anyone know if putting Hecht on IR saves us his cap space during the period he is out? I'm really not sure how close we are to the cap but maybe this will free up some space if we want to make a move at the trade deadline??

If he is on LTIR it frees up space, but ONLY for the time he is on LTIR, a team cannot "bank" LTIR relief. LTIR = Long Term Injured Reserve
Snowmobiler97 Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 For once we actually have players in the top of the league in statistics. Now lindy split up our first line and replaced Adam with leino! WTF??!?? I thought lindy should stay, but that changed my opinion. ????????????

LTIR = Long Term Injured Reserve Great, thanks for that info. Just to clarify that since technically it is wrong, it does not free up any space. A player on LTIR still counts against the cap, but they're allowed to exceed the cap by a value equal to his contract (that probably isn't technically correct either, but it's essentially how it works) while he's out. LTIR is a completely meaningless move unless that cap "bonus" is actually used during that time.
korab rules Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 If I had an NHL team, I wouldn't split up a line that combined for about 40 points in 10 games. Also, just because of leinos big contract, it shouldn't keep him in the lineup. Along with MAG. He has been terrible, we need weber in. Did you see that thing that just went whizzing over your head or did you miss it entirely?

LastPommerFan Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 When you get a flat tire, do you light the car on fire and go buy a new one? A flat tire would total my car, so yes. Since you nitpicked me, how is "allows you to exceed the cap by a value equal to his contract" different from "frees up space". The act of placing a player on LTIR gives you more cap space. Now, if I had said "lowers your cap number"... Did you see that thing that just went whizzing over your head or did you miss it entirely? Was it a goose, if so, don't look up, those things are always pooping.
korab rules Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Ur a funny guy!! Tell me more !! Only if you promise to keep enlightening us with your cogent posts.

How does benching Leino help him get some confidence in his game? How does benching a guy who scored 53 points last season help this team get out of its slump? Let me try another one. If you pull your ACL, do you amputate the leg, or work through it until it's healthy again? Don't actually answer that. I'll do it for you. You'd amputate the leg. That leg is clearly hurt, and will never get better, so it has to go. Right now. Man, I'm so glad I just wrote that post for you. You're really starting to contribute here. Baby steps.
korab rules Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 You just wasted so much of your own time. Here you have presented a post full of content that shows your ability to reason and think critically. You started with a little nugget of thought, developed that thought into a little string, and then put it all together for us to read. Unfortunately, our comrade here is neither capable of comprehending posts of this literary and scholarly magnitude, or of writing any of his own. Of course the potential is there, but I'm not going to put money on this horse if I'm at OTB. Is this metaphor thing just not working out for you? Apperently you have no idea what's going on in sabres hockey. It doesn't matter if we brought in stamkos. The problem is lindy ruff. From not sticking to his goalie plans to playing people like mag instead of weber. For years now we've been making excuses saying oh its the refs or the goalie. Go on the sabres site, there is a post "back to basics" about how everyone got an amazing tough workout and that's what they needed and they are going out Wednesday like a new team ready to kick ass. For years now, I've seen the same post "back to basics" claiming the same thing, it's never helped. I just hope mr pegula realizes this, I'm sick of saying "it's early yet in the season". I've made excuses for this hockey club, I'm sick of it, it's time for a new coach.

I've made excuses for this hockey club, I'm sick of it, it's time for a new coach. Now we're getting somewhere. I can't disagree that I think this team's constant needing of a kick in the ass is an issue. And I think the potential is there for this teams failures to fall on Lindy. I don't like the fact that we have to keep reading articles like that either; they should never need to be written. It was discussed during the offseason that many of us felt this was the last chance for Darcy and Lindy in our minds. Lindy has been given tools we get Darcy didn't have access to in the past, and now we can see what he does with them. Juggling these lines is the sign of a coach who understands the issues of this current squad. Chemistry has escaped Ville. Meanwhile Adam has found himself some game. We have to watch and see what happens now. Many teams go through these struggles every year, and overreacting to these struggles is silly, and you've done a great deal of it. I get it, you're frustrated. So am I. I watched a very bad team on Saturday night, and I'm not happy that my money was wasted on it. But they're working through some issues. If this team is still floundering in a week or two, then freak out all you want. I'll be right there with you. In the mean time, relax and see what happens. And thanks for putting together a solid post.

Possibly hurting Vanek and Pominville is a big risk. Why disrupt the only thing working offensively with any consistency. Not to mention any adverse effect it could have on Adam. You have three forwards playing well together with confidence. Throwing a train-wreck like Leino in the middle of that line can end up doing more harm than good.
