I think the biggest difference with this game was that Tampa was very effective at clearing the puck out of their defensive zone when the Sabres did their trademark dump and chase. The Sabres have had a lot of success this season dumping, fetching, sustaining offensive zone pressure, and exploiting defensive breakdowns to create scoring opportunities. Tampa didn't allow this to happen most of the game. The Sabres didn't adjust their attack. Add to that a disfunctional PP, and Tampa gets a pretty easy shutout.

I always looked at it this way too, but over the first seven games, it's been apparent to me that Sekera is much better defensively than he is given credit for, and is better than Gragnani in that aspect.

Reggie has been pretty solid, IMHO. He and MAG don't outmuscle guys for pucks, but they're able to get possession and pass it between them quickly to create space for outlet passes.

Even so, I would hope that there aren't a lot of chicken little posts, as a result of a bad loss, above.

There's always hope...

Well chances are Hecht will be in the lineup given Ennis' injury.. unless there was an update I haven't heard about, I would anticipate him missing at least a game or two.

That injury looked like it could be serious. I hope not b/c Ennis needs his speed to be a viable NHL player.

The 6 D have been very good. It is up to the forwards to figure out that trap.

...and to forecheck harder. I didn't think there was enough desperation in the offensive zone last night.

Dudacek’s take on game #7 (sorry I’m late, PVR game)

• Tough one. Tampa was a better team tonight. Their defence looked sharp, our forwards didn't. The long and winding road trip may have finally caught up to us. Looked like the will was there, but not the legs.

• I have to echo board scuttlebutt on Derek Roy. His burst is just not there. And last night he was falling all over the ice.

• Andrej Sekera had a shift in the mid-point of the second period where he looked terrible, coughing up the puck twice leading to scoring chances. I think that might have been the first time that has happened all season. Sekera has been very good this year. Couldn’t ask for better from your 5th defenceman.

• Gragnani was better tonight. When he doesn’t have to battle, he really looks quite good. Ehhhrhhhoff (just making sure) was the blueliner that I thought wasn’t quite there.

• Leino looked like the Philly Leino again playing on the wing with Stafford and Roy. I think we could see Yoyo playing centre.

• Miller came up with a pair of big saves after the St. Louis goal and generally looked good. But Enroth needs to start Tuesday.

• Adam has to learn to keep his feet moving on the backcheck and in the defensive zone.

• Does anyone know why Matt Ellis hasn’t been saving us cap space in the minors?

• I was really hyped for our new-look power-play with Adam playing Phil Esposito, and Gragnani and Ehrhoff on the points. It hasn’t looked good the past few games. We're not able to sustain zone time. Ehrhoff needs to be more John Van Boxmeer and less Richie Dunn.

I agree with most of this, but I don't think the will was quite there. They didn't play hard enough on the forecheck, IMHO. I also generally like what I've seen out of Ehrhoff. He's not Nick Lidstrom, but I wasn't expecting that.

However, there is a much more serious issue here: referring to yourself in the 3rd person. I regard this as almost as serious a violation as the children's "Trade for Malkin" posts.

Thxs, I forgot him. I just find it interesting.

On a side note just got back from Wegmans and ran into Nathan Gerbe there, left him alone but i gotta say he so far has played the most consistently.

What did you get?

Al Michaels was advertising the rematch on Football Night in America a few minutes ago. Every time he talks about hockey, I think that he's never seen a game in his life. And certainly, he has. (A few years ago, he explained that he couldn't identify several Red Wings who were standing on the Lions' sideline by claiming that hockey players' faces usually are obscured by masks. No, Al, that's FOOTBALL with the masks.) The man should be an American hockey icon, and instead, it seems like he doesn't know what a blue line is.

But, but, but...I'm really Terrell Owens!

You have my full support on this order.

Chips?

Dibellas is the better choice.

On a side note, Subways in Rochester did not honor the "free sub if Sabres score 3 goals" deal after the day after the home opener.

How is Dibella's any different than Wegman's subs? Aren't they practically the same thing?

Dibella's offers more options but they are basically the same thing.

Hey, just a random question. What's the earliest I can get inside the game on tuesday? It starts at 7:30

Doors

The opening times vary according to the nature of the event and preference of the promoter/artist. Typically times are as follows:

* Regular season Buffalo Sabres games-there is a soft open 2 hours prior to the puck drop. This gives you access to the 100 level concessions, but not to the seating areas. 1 hour before the puck drop there is a full open and guests are then allowed into the seating areas.

* Regular season Buffalo Bandits games- there is a soft open 1.5 hours prior to game time, and a full open 1 hour prior.

* Concerts/Events generally have a full open 1 hour prior to show start time.

Is there any specific reason why they would open the concourses early but not the seating area? I'm trying to think of reasons and the only thing that comes to mind is a potential liability issue.
