deluca67 Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 It's this year's New Jersey. Kovi is off to a decent start. Funny that he and Leino are making the same this season.

This season I think most would agree who we like to see in a Sabre uni. Problem is that while Leino's contract goes down Kovi's goes through the roof. Which really has nothing to do with the Leafs schedule.
\GoBillsInDallas/ Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Every year I notice something odd about the NHL schedule. It has often appeared to me that the Maple Leafs get favorable schedules to start the year. Usually, it appears they play more often than other teams, allowing them to pile up points. This year, I see that they have started the season with five consecutive home games. Leaving aside abstruse conspiracy theories, is it possible the NHL wants to do what it can to allow the Leafs to start quickly? When I was living in New York City, I knew several people who worked for the NHL. I asked them one time how the schedule was drawn up, and they said that they ask each team for their "preferences", and they try to accommodate them as best they can (in addition to the network preferences as well). Some examples of yearly requests: Sabres want two home games at Thanksgiving: Wednesday and Friday/Saturday. Sabres want road games in January and home games in February. Canadiens want their "Florida trip" between Christmas and New Years. Some teams want Friday home games, some want Saturday home games. Anaheim wants Sunday home games.

Thanks for sharing it! (Especially since most of the responders to my original post did not think the question worth an actual response....) I did know that the Sabres like the Thanksgiving weekend games to accommodate all the ex-pats. I wonder if that does mean the Leafs requested front-loaded home games... or if, as some have suggested, the League wants to showcase strong hockey markets earlier. Must be a real challenge to put together schedules for pro leagues, even without trying to deal with such special requests.

The Sabres are among the teams that want Friday home games, and I wish it weren't so.
Andrew Amerk Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Absolutely... my nephew, who's father is a Leafs fan (they live not too far from Owen Sound), and use to tell me all sorts of things about the Leaf players eight years ago (he was 7 at the time) hardly follows them anymore at 15. It is just not good in any sport for a team to be bad that long. The Bills have been worse, for longer...
