Yeah, Miller definitely deserved the D effort and the SO he got today. He's been hot, too.

This was a good game from Leino, and Myers looked hungry for a point.

I'm impressed with The Captain, his game has always been smooth, but it's nice to see him step into the Captain's shoes and be a quiet difference-maker.

I'm lovin' this confident, slightly angry Vanek. Hope he can keep it up all season.

Don't know how slighted he feels about not getting the C but it may have really lit a fire under his arse. He has taken his game to a new level. Lindy might deserve some credit here.

If I wasn't certain that Harry Neale was an idiot before tonight, I am now. No team is pulling their goalie when down three with 1:42 left in an October game, Harry.

Scotty Bowman used to.

However......Harry has lost it. He needs the producer to start feeding him numbers.

Isn't that partly on RJ for intimating that the puck has cleared the zone, rather than telling us exactly what happened?

i.e. "Myers clears the puck...not out"

Couldn't he say he moves the puck ahead, or along the boards, or up the ice rather than use the term "clear" which usually indicates the blue line being crossed. Idk, it probably has some sort of Canadian origin, from which all things come from that I don't understand.

I've been thinking about this today. I think RJ uses "clears" as in an attempt to clear the zone. "Cleared" or "Not out" is the only logical statement after this. It also seems to flow nicely as it rolls of the old galoots tongue. Not sure about seeing him go yet. As was mentioned. It'll be weird for a while. RJ is seared in my mind's ear. I can remember Ted and Lorentz, and Gurtler and Lorentz but RJ has had the helm for 16+. That's a lot of memories.

Game thoughts...

- Florida appears to be a league bottom feeder.

- That being said, good teams DOMINATE bad teams and that is exactly what the Sabres did tonight.

- Miller not tested much, but looked like he brought his "A" game to the rink.

- Vanek & Pominville...share some of that mojo with your teammates who could use a jump start in terms of offense.

- Despite not getting a point, I thought Gerbe was the Sabres best forward.

- Myers much better than last game and looking like his old self in terms of jumping into the play.

- Gaustad being challenged, and then in turn, pummels Bradley.

- That crowd was pitiful. Get hockey out of Sunrise/Fort Lauderdale/Miami ASAP.

- Last but not least, I'll give credit where credit is due. Gragnani was very solid and did a good job of passing the puck. I did not notice him in a bad way in his own zone.

Tonight’s game, according to Dudacek:

• A solid, complete effort from our boys, pretty much a textbook road game.

• I know that wasn’t their best lineup, but Dineen has his work cut out for him. It’s going to be a long year in Florida. They were very rough in their own zone. Only a restrained Buffalo attack and some mediocre shooting prevented this from being a blowout.

• Line shuffle worked somewhat, albeit against an inferior opponent. Cody did some nice work on the Leino line and Boyes showed some more fight.

• Am I exaggerating things, or is any line that Gerbe is on going to be effective?

• I figured this was the game to start Enroth, keep him in the flow, save Miller for the better Tampa team. I won’t say I was wrong, but I will say it didn’t matter tonight. Randy Ireland could have had a shutout. Today’s 54-year-old-retired-to-the-farm-in-Saskatchewan Randy Ireland. Miller probably never broke a sweat.

• Vanek and Pominville have some special magic working right now. The hands of 26 have been sublime, the sustained focus the best of his career. The captain seems to be in the right place, making the right play all the time, all over the ice. On an earlier thread I said it was likely one of Pominville, Vanek or Roy would have a career year. The season has a long way to go, but it looks like it could be two of them. I can’t remember the last time a Sabre duo has been this dominant offensively for six games in row. Lafontaine and Mogilny?

• Was that glowing sideboard ad annoying or what?

I've been watching the Sabres since the beginning and IMO this is not only the best Sabres defensive corps ever, it's also the best Sabres goaltending tandem ever. I think we'll be in for a lot of low-scoring games (by oponents) this year.

Sabres starting w/ 10 out of 12 points, scoring at least 3 goals a game, Vanek, Adams and Pominville line putting up sick numbers, etc... Man, gotta love it. Go Sabres! I can't wait for the next game!

2nd in PPG (or point %), but Pittsburgh's halfway through the season already. ;)

And at least momentarily tied for first in the league with Washington in ROW through 6 games (Only Detroit has the possibility of doing better, or even tying).

I got this, Andrew.

Buffalo looked ten times better then the Panthers. Glad Miller is in mid season form

Not much to add to the analysis of a very solid win, so I will share this ...

Stuff my 3-year old said during tonight's game

C.J.: "Daddy, where's Gerbe?" (His favorite player)

Me: "That's him there standing by the boards ... the little guy."

C.J.: "Is he going to grow up someday like I will?"

Me: "No, buddy, I think he's done growing."

Later, as the camera zoomed in on Brian Campbell before a faceoff:

C.J.: "Daddy, those guys are sweating like CRAZY!!"

I kid you not ... I just cracked up and then he started laughing even though he had no idea what he was laughing about. What are the odds Campbell would be the guy to spark that comment?

Good post. As for Gragnani -- thanks for owning up. I also thought he played pretty solid.

Another good one. I will say that Vanek fattens up his stats against the Florida teams every year. Either way, though, that 2nd goal was a goalscorer's goal. Picking that spot and then blasting it right there -- very sweet.
