Iron Crotch Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 An ugly win looks just as good in the standings! The difference to me (aside from Miller, of course) is that Montreal lacks top quality finishers while we have at least one (Vanek).
North Buffalo Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 Ugly, but chalk it up to a hang in there road win.
nobody Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 Miller stole that one folks. It helps that he can take a game off to work on his game and to get some rest.
kishoph Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 MILLER stole one there for the SABRES, although they did play pretty good in the 2nd half of the game. VANEK playing with a chip on his shoulder.
NowDoYouBelieve Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 There's 2 points in the bank for the next time we dominate and lose. When the GWG is that pretty, you've got nothing to apologize for.
X. Benedict Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 Maybe he's sick. It's not like him to have no wheels for a whole game. He's got no stride at all.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 There's 2 points in the bank for the next time we dominate and lose. When the GWG is that pretty, you've got nothing to apologize for. I like that, lol........
Cereal Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 Haha. All I saw was the second half of the second period, perhaps for the better? Sounds like we were outplayed. Ahywho, excellent, textbook play on that second goal at the end of the period! I'll take a win any way we can get 'em early in the season, as it'll take a good portion of the season for this team to jell.
kishoph Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 No legs at all. He needs some rest or something. I heard on WGR this afternoon that ROY has a leg injury, there was an interview with PAUL HAMILTON, but I missed it. Here's a link to WGR about the ROY injury. http://wgr550.com/pages/11211341.php?contentType=4&contentId=9172736
SwampD Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 He's got no stride at all. He was pretty good in our own zone, though. And PA (I know you're reading this), that arena was as quiet as any I've heard before.

LabattBlue Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 Game thoughts... - Nice to get a win on the road against a division rival - 10 minutes of solid play in the 2nd period while scoring two goals. This normally is not going to win many games. - Great effort by Miller - Stafford was probably the best of the lot of forwards(he had back to back dominating shifts in the 2nd period) - I don't know what was up with Myers but that was AWFUL(along with the rest of the elite defense). He didn't rush the puck at all, handled the puck like he never played the game before, didn't play physical at all, and just seemed to be out of it all game long. - Watching the Canadiens dominate in the Sabres end had me shuttering for when we line up against Boston, Philly, and any other team that forechecks the crap out of you. - I'm ready to see Weber and Hecht. - I know it is very very very early in the season, but I don't see $8.5 mil worth of cap hit in Leino and Ehrhoff. - Beautiful shot by Vanek. Keep that up and a 40+ goal season is in his future. In summary....a win is a win is a win.

... Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 Yep, classic theft-of-game by Miller. Stafford played well, too. Goose was money on face-offs. Those are the best things from this game.
Knightrider Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 I hate games like that. If I'd paid for ticket to that game, I'd want my money back... Both teams seemed to be going through the motions...

deluca67 Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 I couldn't catch the entire game. Was Leino injured?
thesportsbuff Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 I couldn't catch the entire game. Was Leino injured? I don't think he was injured unless maybe towards the end, but I did notice Boyes was taking faceoffs for that line for a while (if not the whole game).
Eleven Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 I missed so much of this game. I did see Vanek's goal, which was a thing of beauty--so patient!--and his first penalty (deserved but maybe not a dumb penalty, even though TV couldn't shake off his "mistake" while in the box) and second (bs call). I didn't get to see either of the Sabres' other goals, or the Habs' goal, or even the fight that WGR was raving about during my travels tonight. Van looked to be the man tonight. Miller made some nice saves that I saw, but not nearly as nice as RJ made them out to be; a routine catch doesn't need a five-second "MILLLERRRRRRRRR" IMO.
TheMatrix31 Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 I couldn't catch the entire game. Was Leino injured? If I'm not mistaken, I think he just sucked it up and was benched toward the end.
DumbPuck Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 I thought Vanek looked like a beast out there tonight... he was layin out hits .... backcheckin like a pro .... scorin goals ... I was pleased by him and Miller (and Drooooo) mostly.
deluca67 Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 I don't think he was injured unless maybe towards the end, but I did notice Boyes was taking faceoffs for that line for a while (if not the whole game). He only had about 9:40 of ice time. Was he benched?
CallawaySabres Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 I could not tune in until 30 seconds before Vanek's goal. Looked like a pile of garbage in the 3rd so I can't imagine what a steamin' pile the 1st and 2nd could have been.... Oh well, take the 2 and run !

You need to watch the saves highlights at NHL.com. Some of those saves were very impressive.
thesportsbuff Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 He only had about 9:40 of ice time. Was he benched? I think that whole line in general was given limited shifts late. Ennis was playing up with Stafford and Roy for a while and Gerbe was playing with Kaleta and Goose for a while, as McCormick didn't get much time after his fight. I didn't think Leino had that bad of a game.
