Most exciting one a can remember. Also a reason I love Lindy Ruff.

Who never gets mentioned as one of Buffalo's greatest fighters is Danny Gare.

Danny Gare was probably the best fighter per pound that Buffalo ever had.

Gare would stand toe to toe with guys twice his size.

I can't say I remember this fight but this is what you would get from #18.

Here he takes on Clark Gillies.

In today's terms that would be like Derek Roy trading blows with Milan Lucic.

Gare was a Great fighter and probably could have been a pro boxer IMO.

I got to talk to Gare post game a few years back at when he was doing some commentating for Columbus (I believe) while they were playing Les Trashers. He's a bulldog. One of those guys who isn't tall, but you can just tell he's solid. He was a pretty amicable guy (once he learned I was a Sabres fan)

As far as the main topic...I don't have YouTube access right now, but I fondly remember the days of Hartman-MacGuire having all-out brawls vs. the hated Bruce Shoebottom and the B's.

Kevin Maguire is one of my favs. He was undersized for the role he played and I think he must've benn flat out crazy. And his story of making it to the NHL is very compelling. He's a classic underdog story. Anywho.... my recollection of Maguire was that he was a good fighter who really did alot to keep us tough enough to play the Bruins straight up, so I went looking for vids to back this up. Boy was my memory skewed. Maguire didn't win very many fights against the hated Bruins. Jay Miller pretty much owned him. I liked my memories better than what I'm seeing on video. :bag:

Yeah..I kind of feel the way. I remember McGuire and Hartman being more than willing, but looking back now, they usually came up short. I'm going by memory, but I do recall a 1st round playoff series against the Bruins that was an all out brawl.

I would say that era closed with the acquisition of Jay Wells & a young Rob Ray breaking into the league.

I was not alive, but this is one of my favorite hockey fights of all time. Combine this with his delicious verbal assault on don koharski and he is probably my favorite sabre I never got to see play.

I was waiting for this - I was at that game as a youngster - one of the rare times a player got a game misconduct for 3 fights in a game. Schoeny took on Orr, Vadnais, and Cashman

I will never forget a game against Detroit where Maguire basically took on the whole team. First video is how it started. Second video is how it ended.

I fell in love with Kevin Maguire because of that game. Full on man crush. He had the balls to do what no man in the league had the balls to do. He ran the Detroit goalie with Bob "noone beats me" Probert on the ice. That took frickin balls. He had to know that after he ran the goalie and beat up The Savior that he was going to have to answer for it. But he did it anyway. He had at least two other fights with Probert prior to this game and didn't fare terribly well in either of them. Like I said upthread, I think he was touched. And I love him to this day for it. BTW- I HATED Tommy Barrasso after this game. It made me so angry that Maguire basically sacrificed himself up to the God of Fists to protect Barrasso but at the first sign of rough stuff Tommy skated away and let Probert get in that sucker punch. In hindsight, Barrasso had no business tying up with Probie if it meant getting our goalie's face caved in but it really pissed me off at the time.

Anyone remember this gem from the same game? Kocur might've been the only guy in the league at the time with the ability to fight Probert even but Krupp got the better of him here. I thought we might see the emergence of Playfair 2.0 here but Krupp never did develop that angry streak.

The best part of the first video is Robie sounding like he is going to climb out of the booth and hit someone himself! Love that guy!

Back in the early 80's in the playoffs against the Nordiques...Dale Hunter took a run at Tom Barraso, so Barraso ran him right into the boards and just starting wailing on Hunter. Everybody just hated Hunter, so the Aud was just bedlam.

If anyone has any video of that, I would much appreciate it.

This is one of my favorites, mostly because RJ is downright giddy before the faceoff at the prospect of a big fight. And he rose to the occasion with a classic call, of course.

That one is great.

I've always liked this one.

When Harry starts laughing at about :50 in I always start laughing, too. Oh, and this was Kid's Day at Nassau Mausoleum.
