shrader Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 I've put masking tape across the bottom of my TV before. Hmmm, good thought. I don't dare leave tape marks on my screen, but I'm sure I can find some large rectangular object to block the bottom of the screen.
X. Benedict Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Roll Call, first game of the year, shall I be the first to say it's a must win game? Yes if Finland falls sweden and Norway are next
repster Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 I'm banging out at 12 today....and nothing is stopping me! I'm taking the whole day off. Wife is starting a new job so no distractions here either! By the way, anybody know who's calling the game on MSG or on TSN2? I will be watching on the latter.
carpandean Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Gragnani IN, Weber, OUT. Lindy do you really need to get on my nerves before the 1st puck is even dropped. One of two blueliners who is willing to block shots and thinks defense before offense, and you start the season by benching him? As Paul Simon Hamilton has pointed out regularly, whenever Gragnani has played in the preseason, he has been on the top PP unit. A bigger question may be why is Sekera in there instead of Weber?
Derrico Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 So how are you working folks handling this one today? Right now I'm leaning towards avoiding this place completely once the game starts and then watching it on the DVR after I get home. I don't know how realistic that is though. I bet I cave when game time rolls around and listen online. I'm loving the flex hours we have here. I've worked ten hour days much of the week so I can sneak out of here at noon. In the spirit of the season I'm thinking of frying up some wings, tossing on my Myers jersey and enjoying the game with a cold one....or five or six.

Indirectly, that may indicate what they think of him, but it absolutely should not affect their decisions, now. Sunk cost. They're committed. Put the best combination of players out there, not the highest paid.

I bet I cave when game time rolls around and listen online. I'm just going to listen to the game while at work (I think...it is going to be on WGR right?). This will help to avoid forcing me to shut off my phone, radio and stay off the internet until 6pm (I can't leave work until 5, and it's an hour ride home).

I bet I cave when game time rolls around and listen online. This is what I'm doing. I need to sit in the man-cave with appropriate refreshments and watch a new Sabres game with no knowledge of the outcome. As Paul Simon has pointed out regularly, whenever Gragnani has played in the preseason, he has been on the top PP unit. A bigger question may be why is Sekera in there instead of Weber? Did he write a new song about this? How was the harmony with Garfunkel after all these years? (sorry, couldn't resist.)

Yep, I heard advertising already, WGR will have the game live.

I need to sit in the man-cave with appropriate refreshments and watch a new Sabres game with no knowledge of the outcome. Yeah, that's still the plan here as well. Luckily I do have a decent amount of stuff to do here at work today. If I slack off now, I'll have to actually work later in the day!

I don't dare leave tape marks on my screen, but I'm sure I can find some large rectangular object to block the bottom of the screen. I've never owned anything nice enough to worry about tape marks. Yes if Finland falls sweden and Norway are next Norway's Neutrality is usually respected, but you have to worry about Denmark.
Matty Ice Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 I'm banging out at 12 today....and nothing is stopping me! As am I. I have a case of Dogfish 120 minute IPA, and a 30 rack of Blue (for the uncivil) chillin in the garage fridge. I have a box of Al Capone's humidifying as we speak. About a dozen of my Sabres buddies took half days as well, and will be arriving at my house around 12:30. We have one Maple Leaf fan as a friend, and he has agreed to "man" the grill for the game. (I know, Leaf fan and Man are a rare combo.) It's Game Day, the wait is over. Here is to our beloved Sabres, and to one heluva season! Let's Go BUFFALO!!!
wonderbread Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 I have a meeting at 11. Then an hour ride back from said meeting. I am not sure I am gonna be able to watch much however the GR app is going to be in full effect.

I had to hear all of the Leaf talk this morning after their win last night in one of the ugliest hockey games I've seen in years.
spndnchz Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Why am I so nervous right now. Can't tell if it's a bad nervous or just real excitement. RJ's voice will open the season for me.
Derrico Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 On a personal note, it's taken me 5 years 5 months and 4 days but I finally have hit 1,000 posts. What a great time to celebrate this cherished accomplishment with an opening game day thread.
Assquatch Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 I would fear the worst case scenario of successfully avoiding radio/tv/internet/phone all day only to accidently hear the score on the radio on the way home, or see somebody at the store when you're picking up a twelve pack, or worse, taking two steps in the door and having your wife/gf/whatever tell you the result. lol Rookie. Your 12 pack should already be on ice and next to the couch. Wife/gf/whatever should know better or be gagged. Besides, as the game is in Europe and considering the time difference - the game has already been played. We're all in the same boat of trying to avoid spoilers before it's shown on TV here. I know for sure I will not be signing into Finland's internet between now and then.

At my rate, hoping to hit it around the time Armia's son starts playing for us. I too, am working from home. My biggest issue will be if I have to sync RJ to the TV, should I get the Ducks feed. Life just isn't fair.

I had to hear all of the Leaf talk this morning after their win last night in one of the ugliest hockey games I've seen in years. Don't worry, you won't be hearing too much more chatter coming from Leafs fans, when they inevitably fall out of the playoff race. My buddy is the most optimistic Leafs fan I have ever seen. It gets quite annoying. Why am I so nervous right now. Can't tell if it's a bad nervous or just real excitement. RJ's voice will open the season for me. I have a pit in my stomach. I am right there with you. I haven't done an ounce of work today, and I have been here since 7. On a personal note, it's taken me 5 years 5 months and 4 days but I finally have hit 1,000 posts. Derrico Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Yupp...same here :bag: Hahahha, as I said I'm leaving at noon so I thought I'd get here and go hell bent on finishing some of these files. But here we are....

I too, am working from home. My biggest issue will be if I have to sync RJ to the TV, should I get the Ducks feed. Life just isn't fair. I've been sync'ing my wgr550 internet radio to the DVR (cable) for years on Center Ice but this year I switched to DirecTV and even though I'm located near NYC I get the Sabres MSG broadcast with pregame/postgame and NO need for Center Ice. It's awesome.
dEnnis the Menace Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Hahahha, as I said I'm leaving at noon so I thought I'd get here and go hell bent on finishing some of these files. But here we are.... I really wish I could leave at noon. As it stands right now, the people who have been with this company for a good amount of time needed to take some vacation, so they take off a lot of Fridays. Well...that just leaves me here as the only person in my dept. meaning I can't leave until 5pm  It also means though that I can procrastinate and slack off without anybody noticing too...two sides to every thing :D only 2 hrs and 45 more minutes ;)
carpandean Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Did he write a new song about this? How was the harmony with Garfunkel after all these years? Ah, dang it. Paul Hamilton + Howard Simon = Paul Simon (+ Howard Hamilton, whoever that is.) On a separate note, I just played the game on NHL12 and the Ducks won 3-0 on an EN and a garbage goal with 0:07 left. Sabres had their chances (including Roy hitting a post 10 sec after Teemu Selanne scored the opening goal of the game), but couldn't cash in. There were 0 powerplays, though, which I though was a little unlikely.
