Steve Levy has the Sabres winning the Cup. Linda Cohn picks them to come out of the East.

Sorry if this was posted already, I didn't see it.

Saw that as well: very cool to actually be mentioned

Not to mention that 6 of the 8 experts have the Sabres winning the North East. 4 of 8 have Miller winning the Vezina, and Barnaby picked Ruff to win coach of the year. Not too shabby.

That actually makes me nervous. Because the 'experts' often have a strong bias towards the team(s) that made the splashiest moves and often end up wrong because the players brought in with those moves don't gel with what was already there.

I'd be much happier if more experts were saying they didn't like the Sabres because there's no way in the world that Leino will be a top 2 center or something of that nature.

If it makes you feel any better quite a few of the "experts" to north of us (see TSN) have picked the Pens as the overwhelming favorite to win the cup.

as far as Levy and Cohn I consider them to be no more knowledgeable about hockey than your average fan.

Linda Cohn started more games at goalie on guys teams than most of us. :)

I forget the name of the high school north of Horse Heads. Also Oswego women's team.

Every analysis I have seen, none of them have picked the Sabres to go deep in the playoffs, and one had them getting into the playoffs at 6th. Everything I have seen has the Canucks, Blackhawks, Sharks, or Bruins or Pens winning the cup. The same one where they had the Sabres coming in 6th in the East also had the Flyers coming in 9th behind the Rangers and Canadians.

The Canucks will not make it out of Round 1 of the playoffs and I am skeptical if they will even make the playoffs because they have the worst forward depth in the eastern conference with the exception of Ottawa and well thats about it... Also i think the Flyers are going to have a very slow start and they are not as good without Carter or Richards as they were with them... I think the flyers have the potential to be the team that just misses the playoffs.

I must have had it wrong. Not sure what I was thinking. I just looked her up, she's from Long Island.

But I know she played hockey for Oswego.

See my edit. You may have heard newfield and assumed it was the upstate newfield.

The Bugg guy with the sabres missing the playoffs also has Miller winning the Vezina. Those two events are mutually exclusive.

I agree with you there. He isn't the best guy on that team of prognosticators.

P.S. You must be happy to hear about Pommer.

Vancouver is in the Western Conference.

I think they'll get off to a sluggish start with Bieksa out and Erhoff gone, but I'd be shocked if they don't make the playoffs.

I wasn't sure where to post this, and I definitely don't think it requires a new thread. So I decided to post it here.

I know a lot of us find ESPNs NHL coverage sub-par, but I thought this was pretty cool. Pierre Lubrun has Buffalo ranked number 2 in his power rankings this week, right behind Detroit.

I must admit, as rediculous and irrelevant as power rankings are, they are still a guilty pleasure.

Same as I've seen, but to be fair all their doing is guessing. Nothing is known at this point, having said that with all our upgrades they say we should do well, then predict us 6th :s

ESPN also put this together and it is really interesting: "Adam (2g, 2a) is the first rookie in Sabres history to score at least two points in each of the team's first two games of a season and only the second rookie on any NHL team to do that over the last 17 years. Anze Kopitar began his NHL career with multiple-point games in each of the Kings' first two games of the 2006-07 season."

I found that to be interesting...

Also of note: "Thomas Vanek (2g, 1a) and Jason Pominville (1g, 2a) were the first Buffalo players to record three points in the team's first game of a season since Oct. 5, 2005, when Danny Briere had 2g and 1a against the Islanders. The last time the Sabres had two or more players record at least three points in a season opener was in 1992 when Dave Andreychuk (3a), Pat LaFontaine (1g-3a) and Alexander Mogilny (3g) all did it."

Very interesting...

are we about to experience something amazing? my gut tells me yes.

I think they have the potential to be very, very good this season. It is a combination of shrewd off season moves (free agent and contracting), an extended road trip to begin the season (for team chemistry), a balance of attacking and defending D, a solid goalie pair, one good line and two more decent lines, an owner committed to doing everything to change the culture (fans, players, building, sports writers and league), and a memory of what could have been...
