I posted about him prior to training camp on this forum as a player i will be watching when i go see practice and it's not to see if he can make Sabres, which i knew he wouldn't, but to see if he can make the Amerks because he is a very interesting prospect. He's a scoring machine and a great skater. He was one of the better players for the Sabres prospects winning team in Travese City, and looks like he impressed enough to get a AHL deal.

Injuries is why he was a free agent. Teams felt like he lost some pace due to his injury. So he will have to prove them wrong. Last season in the OHL, he was one of the better players in the entire league, and when playing vs. Windsor in round one of the playoffs, he scored 3g and 7a in the 7 game series loss for his team. His team had no business playing 7 games against a elite squad like Windsor but Varone single handily kept them in it. I saw him play in the OHL once and people who follow his former club compared him clutchness to a Chris Drury. They said when the game is on the line, they want him to have the puck.

While i am no expert, a scout or coach at any level, i will say he reminds me a lot of Danny Briere. Thats why he caught my eye and why i tried to follow him throughout this past summer to see where he ends up. He wants the puck and works hard. Only time will tell to see if Varone can terrorize the AHL like Briere did his first year there.

A hybrid between Chris AND Danny... What could go wrong?
