Gerbe-Gaustad-Kaleta each with a goal and an assist (or two), I believe.

Edit: they got all 8 points. Goose didn't assist on the EN or it would have been a perfect round-robin.

Fun game. Clearly, the two best lines tonight were the NHL lines. The Gerbe-Gaustad-Kaleta line was fantastic tonight. Visor wearing captain Gaustad has turned into an offensive threat. Not used to seeing Gaustad wearing a visor, so I assume he wants to become more of an offensive player because he really played that role to a T tonight. Also, great defensive play by that line as well.

I am kind of liking that Ennis-Leino-Stafford line. I see absolutely no reason as to why Leino cannot play center. He seems decent on faceoffs and can hold the puck unlike any forward I've seen in years. That line is going to be excellent at puck possession and I envision once they get some chemistry, Stafford is going to have a huge season in terms of goals.

Overall, it's just preseason and means nothing. But, there were a lot of things to like about tonight for those watching the NHL guys. I'm looking forward to watching more.

Right there with you on Leino and Ennis. There was a clear shot in the first period from the top of the right circle, though, where Stafford chose against the shot and dropped it back to Ennis at the bottom of the circle, who of course hit the goalie's pads (because the goalie had about 15 seconds to set up for Tyler2). Stafford needs to fire that one on net and not be fancy. Hopefully, that comes (quickly, please!) in time. I'm not a Stafford fan, as we all know, and that play didn't help him in my perception. It seemed like he chickened out of a shot. I know, it's still preseason, though.

My humball notes -

- That Leino can play center should be no surprise, he was shifting to center all the time on Briere's line in Philly - he just wasn't taking draws.

- I liked Biega's game. That was the biggest surprise for me tonight.

-Enroth sharp in debut.

- Myers looks good skating...it took him 6 weeks last year, and he looked top-heavy last year too.

- Foligno was the most impressive out of the Kassian-Adam-Foligno line. The game as it's played is faster than what they saw in Traverse city.

- Gerbe, Gaustad, and Kaleta are the All-American Animal line.... a Yankee Pit Bull, Goose, and Rat. :D

- Would have liked to have seen more of Brennan.

- I can see Ennis, Leino, Stafford having some chemistry. I do think that Ennis can look to shoot more.

- Enroth looked very sharp.

- I didn't enjoy watching the Sabres struggle in the second. Especially with Boucher out there....too much like the Philly series.

OK I watched the rookie tourney title game and now most of this one online (admittedly not every second) ... am I the only one disappointed in Kassian? To be clear, I was never expecting the next Cam Neely or even Lucic right out of the box, and I was never buying into the buzz from some who say he should be on the team from the start. But still, his rep had me expecting a bigger, more skilled Kaleta ... full speed, and if there is a chance to take the body, I expect him to be taking it.

I am not sure I have seen him go full speed yet, and if I have he is closer to Goose than Kaleta. I figured the rookie game it was because it was 4 games in 5 nights, but tonight actually saw him let up on a guy over by the benches on one of his first shifts ...he had him lined up and just peeled off.

I admit all this might be unfair, given that I never saw him play other than highlights before, but he is either slower than I thought, or he is playing very tentative ...

And now is where some of you tell me it's all Lindy's fault ... and you might be right. But six months ago he was (supposedly) an out-of-control borderline headcase who hit everything that moved, and sometimes it was even legal. Not sure even Lindy can brainwash guys that well over an offseason.

Are you sure?

(Agreed on the chem on the Leino line, and I liked his play.)

I don't think he was that bad, just didn't stand out. I would have liked to seen him work the walls and kept it simple.

Kassian will be fine. AHL time is just what he needs.

I didn't like Kassians' game either. I wasn't sure if he's just a bit slow or if he is reacting instead of anticipating. I can't say I noticed the play where he pealed off instead of taking the body. Personally, I think he was being tentative. Well...... I hope it was tentative play.

I did like what I saw from Foligno. But I thought Adam was the best player on that line tonight. He's definitely going to push for a roster spot during preseason.

I was at the game (right on the red line 12th row up) ... great game .. great crowd! Anyways, my notes:

1. I love Gerbe and Gaustad together... I still do NOT like Kaleta on that line. I know he played a key role in the Gaustad goal .. but he just irks me on that line. I think I'd like to see a more skilled player in that spot.

2. Leino, Ennis, Stafford line works. They need to get more shots on the net though. Despite owning the first period by a long shot in puck posession time, we still got out-shot. I dunno how it looked to those at home but that first period setup by Stafford where he left the puck for Tyler2 looked INSANE in the arena (center?!)... if that woulda gone in it would be my play of the night.

3. The young guys showed their age. They have some maturing to do before they are ready for NHL time I think. I was waiting for Kassian to crush somebody (I know it's preseason but I don't give a F* ... set a precedent). But that line was very noticeably the least prepared Sabres line tonight.

4. I love Nate Gerbe ... did I say that yet? Another 'play' that may not have translated to the stream well was right at the end of the first period (I think) by the Sabres bench/media box. A 'cane winger was coming up behind Gerbe as he was fighting for the puck and Gerbe, with eyes on the back of his head, did a spin move at the last second leading to the Canes player flying skates over head into the press box space there ... was friggin hilarious in the arena ... don't know if it was even shown or highlighted in the video feed but the whole arena was laughing pretty hard.

Great times!

I don't doubt that ... maybe disappointed was a bad word, he just has played differently than I expected, I guess.

Usually the power-forward type players don't hit their stride for a few years.

If he's not on the roster after 2 years - then we can be disappointed. :)

I was just a few rows back from this guy and he was annoying as hell. This was in the third period and he yelled "###### YOU FAULK" really loud with a bunch of little kids around. What a jerk.

I could only catch the first. From what I've read here, looks like Leino is getting the thumbs up.

I really noticed the Kassian line, though, and I have to agree with the disappointment expressed earlier over his game. I was expecting an uncaged animal - but I can understand, too, that this is A) preseason, and B) he was probably nervous. This coming year in the AHL will be critical for him.

MacIntyre looked pretty good in net from what I could tell from a 3G feed on my phone. He didn't strike me as a "brilliant" goalie like Enroth does (or Miller, for that matter), but seemed completely servicable.

I was smitten by the alumni commercials - very cool and a MUCH better way to "sell" the area.

Sounds like the boys did okay.

Work had the stream blocked. And this site. Made me very sad.

Sounds like it's time to find a new employer... this is unacceptable

Leino did look good ... that line will need to finish but they seemed comfortable together, maybe even too much with the overpassing.

Maybe Kassian was nervous, but he looked better a year ago when he got into that preseason game in the small town in Canada (forget what they call it) ... but as X says, I want him in Rochester a while anyway

I was surprised McIntyre could see the puck with the cage he was wearing ... not only was it not the "cat's eye" one most guys wear but it was like Hasek's x2 ... like something a 12-year old was required to wear. But whatever works for him.

The commercials were cool, I wonder if there are other versions with different guys ... there are certainly more guys still in the area.

Yeah. The job pays me very well, but for some reason every day around 6pm 80% of the Internet gets blocked. Guess they don't trust the night crew.

There are ways around that.
