PromoTheRobot Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Does anyone know what players are going into their final contract year in 2011/12? Who will we be talking about come draft deadline day? (And for the first time ever, we can REALISTICALLY talk about any player!! Oh Hockey Heaven!) PTR
spndnchz Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 I don't see one player under the age of 26 on the list.
pegs4mayor Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Chris bourqe, washington is 25 =]
LabattBlue Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 I don't see one player under the age of 26 on the list. Makes sense since that is the age most players reach UFA status, right?
korab rules Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 I'll take Zach Parise and Shane Doane at the deadline for a bag of pucks, a 4th round pick, Kotalik and Mmoorriissoonnnn
RazielSabre Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 I don't see one player under the age of 26 on the list. Sorry prolly me being daft but how does it matter if their under 26? I thought it's best if rent-a-players are 30-33, veterans who can add a playoff presence.
RazielSabre Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Having said that I don't think we'll change much unless we ditch a couple of players, we're fully stocked.
Fifty Mission Cap Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Sorry prolly me being daft but how does it matter if their under 26? I thought it's best if rent-a-players are 30-33, veterans who can add a playoff presence. I think if they're 25 and under, they qualify for RFA status, but if they're older than 25, they're UFA. Can someone confirm? I think this is right.
shrader Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Chris bourqe, washington is 25 =] Why would you bring him up?
shrader Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 I think if they're 25 and under, they qualify for RFA status, but if they're older than 25, they're UFA. Can someone confirm? I think this is right. 27 years old or 7 years as a pro. Certain 25 year olds can be UFAs, but it's relatively rare and they're typically not very good players.
notwoz Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Pardon my cynicism, but ... but WTF with this thread? They haven't even dropped the puck for the first PRE-season game yet. Isn't it a bit premature to talk about rent-a-players and the stretch drive? Shouldn't we let the team figure out what it has before we talk about what it needs?
Cereal Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Aaron Maybin's available -- former first-round pick!
Two or less Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Pardon my cynicism, but ... but WTF with this thread? They haven't even dropped the puck for the first PRE-season game yet. I agree, this thread is pretty random. But, while we're having fun, i will give my team because we are all wanna-be gms. lol Assuming we are in a pretty good position come deadline day, fighting for one of the top 4 seeds in the east, i think the Sabres go the root that the Bruins did last season. Add a some spark, little grit, bottom 6 help and defensive depth. That said, two guys i'd like us to target would be David Moss from Calgary who has 17 games of playoff experience and is also a gritty player, who plays well in his own end, and also Tim Gleason, who is a rock on defense, and also brings 18 games of playoff experience, and also played with Ryan Miller on the Olympic team for team USA.

Tim Gleason? I think he would be the eighth best defensemen on our team....
nfreeman Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 If the Devils' financial situation and on-ice play implodes (both of which are possible), Parise, who signed a 1-year deal and is UFA after this year, might be on the market at the deadline. Now that would be a guy worth trading some major assets for.
RazielSabre Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 I think we'll add a center, or some veteran depth towards the deadline. Depends hugely on Stafford, Hecht and Boyes. If any of them underperform look to them being replaced with a rental. I'm not taking into account injuries, their unpredictable.
shrader Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Boyes could very easily wind up being a rental...

Shouldn't we let the team figure out what it has before we talk about what it needs? Yes it is a tad premature but for the first time ever this franchise can target ANY PLAYER IT WANTS! So what is the harm in a little speculative window shopping? Kee-rist, there were 2012 draft threads on TBD during the NFL preseason! PTR
spndnchz Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Boyes could very easily wind up being a rental... I think he's gone before the season even starts.
nfreeman Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Boyes could very easily wind up being a rental... Good call. I think he's gone before the season even starts. Also quite possible but I think Hecht is more likely.
Calvin Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 I think he's gone before the season even starts. agreed, i think both or one of Hecht and Boyes will not start the season as a Sabre
dudacek Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 I can't see Hecht going anywhere. We have a lot of wingers who can score. We've got a lot of little guys with speed. We have one veteran winger who is responsible defensively, good on the wall and on the PK, able to play centre in a pinch and capable of filling in on the top six if the need arises. Yeah he gets paid too much for his role, but who is going to replace him? He is the guy who will replace Grier. Besides, Lindy loves him.
BetterDays06 Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 I think he's gone before the season even starts. It seems really weird that we haven't heard his name being mentioned or even hear about him being in buffalo. Would the sabres just get rid of him to save the cash, or try and bring someone better in? your thoughts
