Hyzy Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Word is it will be the First Niagara Center So the Sabres finally got a F'N Center
BetweenThePipes00 Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 I debated that before I posted then realized the correct answer was incidental to the message so I chose one. Erroneously. No you got it right .. the First Union Arena is/was in Philly ... the Center is/was in WB ... or maybe it was the other way around ... either way they would get very upset if you said the wrong one ... but for your purposes either is correct ...
spndnchz Posted August 25, 2011 Author Report Posted August 25, 2011 Web site changed http://firstniagaracenter.com/
spndnchz Posted August 25, 2011 Author Report Posted August 25, 2011 Should have been First Niagara University Unbelievable Place F'nuUP
korab rules Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Web site changed http://firstniagaracenter.com/ web address may be changed, but the website still says HSBC all over it.
spndnchz Posted August 25, 2011 Author Report Posted August 25, 2011 web address may be changed, but the website still says HSBC all over it. Not anymore.
Andrew Amerk Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Not anymore. Poor HSBC Arena. We will always miss you! The memoriesssssssssssssssssssssss
nobody Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 I'm guessing they saw all the comments about FNA and quickly changed it to FNC.
Andrew Amerk Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 I'm guessing they saw all the comments about FNA and quickly changed it to FNC. Good to see that the board is making a difference!
BetweenThePipes00 Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 I hope you guys are being sarcastic ... I'm sure they never thought to buy the domain for the firstniagaraarena name (which is still available) but bought firstniagaracenter.com and then re-did the whole site in an hour or two after seeing the wisecracks on this board.

What do u mean? Are u saying the world doesn't revolve around US?
ROC Sabres Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 What do u mean? Are u saying the world doesn't revolve around US?  He doesn't like the attention. Other will take credit for him I'm sure.
Skibum Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Well, if it has to be a corporate name, I can live with First Niagara. Obviously would have preferred something cool like "The Rick Martin Beer Hall" or "The Slayer Pavilion". The "Niagara" part gives it some regional significance and it sounds a heck of a lot better off the tongue than "H-S-B-C Arena". I am just glad they won't be calling it that any more.
shrader Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 What do u mean? Are u saying the world doesn't revolve around US?  Us? No. Inkman's calves? Yes.
wjag Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 I'm going to miss Hot Sauce Blue Cheese.. It was just so appropriate..
MattPie Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 What do u mean? Are u saying the world doesn't revolve around US?  You, prehaps, but not the rest of us. ;)
TheMatrix31 Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Not terribly crazy about the name, but life goes on lol Easier to say than H-S-B-C, that's for sure. That was kind of a pain in the ass.
Taro T Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 I don't care what they call the F'N' Center; to me, it'll always be the MMArena. :)
nfreeman Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Did anyone listen to/watch the presser? Is it worth listening to? Did they discuss any hockey items, or just arena/sponsorship matters?
BuffaloSoldier2010 Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Did anyone listen to/watch the presser? Is it worth listening to? Did they discuss any hockey items, or just arena/sponsorship matters? just sponsorship for the most part. Nothing groundbreaking on the hockey side of things.
spndnchz Posted August 26, 2011 Author Report Posted August 26, 2011 I wonder how much money for the rights? HSBC was paying 800k per year. Some places are upwards of 4 mill a year.
RazielSabre Posted August 26, 2011 Report Posted August 26, 2011 While I sort of like it, 'Center' sounds a bit community, 'Arena' does sound a bit more powerful. Big bands dont go on 'center' tours.
