spndnchz Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Just a hunch Sabres are having a presser tomorrow to name Amerks coaches. McKee is in town (although he lives here) for charity tonight and the Sabres are showing pics of him signing autographs. Just a hunch. If my memory serves me right he was helping out at NU last year.
thesportsbuff Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 There was more critical thinking involved in this "hunch" than all of Eklund's rumor/hunches.
shrader Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 A head coach and an assistant with no experience at the professional level? I don't know if I'm too crazy about that. I'm still a bit curious about Rolston since his only head coaching experience was with a bunch of high schoolers.
spndnchz Posted August 25, 2011 Author Report Posted August 25, 2011 First Niagara is buying the naming rights to the Arena. First Niagara Arena? F'NA ?
X. Benedict Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 First Niagara is buying the naming rights to the Arena. First Niagara Arena? F'NA ? We'll have to call it Effin'AYY!
nobody Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Guess we know what today's presser is about now.
X. Benedict Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 http://www.wgrz.com/news/article/132230/37/HSBC-Arena-to-Get-New-Name Channel 2 gots it.
SDS Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 We'll have to call it Effin'AYY! almost as good as the old First Union Arena in Philly...
That Aud Smell Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 i heard a local AM sports type forecast this a few weeks back as "the FN Arena", said as in "yeah, we're headed down to the effin' arena."
X. Benedict Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 almost as good as the old First Union Arena in Philly... That was oddly appropriate for Philly fans.
BetweenThePipes00 Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 almost as good as the old First Union Arena in Philly... I have a friend who used to work for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins ... they would get very upset if you called their barn the First Union Arena (because it was actually the First Union CENTER!!!) They were also very touchy about never being called Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ... I think they were related to that Chico guy from the East Campus of Sabres University ...
sabres1970 Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Is it just me or does the name "First Niagara Center" sound a lot better than "First Niagara Arena"?
spndnchz Posted August 25, 2011 Author Report Posted August 25, 2011 Guess we know what today's presser is about now. This is waiting on Sabres.com http://video.sabres.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=1
Sabre Dance Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Is it just me or does the name "First Niagara Center" sound a lot better than "First Niagara Arena"? I thought maybe TPegs would buy out the remainder of the naming contract. He could then name it after the natural gas-producing method that made him financially sound - Fracking Arena. Of course, this is so close to FN Arena that it was probably not worth mentioning. Please go back to what you were doing previously. Carry on....
nobody Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 This is waiting on Sabres.com http://video.sabres.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=1 "Members of the Buffalo Sabres address the media live at HSBC Arena." While the above statement is true - it would have been funny if they had said: Members of the Buffalo Sabres address the media live at First Niagara Arena.
LGR4GM Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 cant we just name it Pegulaville USA and be done... thats what it is anyways.
Sabre Dance Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Actually, if the name is indeed changing, this is very interesting...HSBC will still have two buildings housing a fair number of employees just yards away from the arena. You would have thought they would want to keep the naming rights to maintain the local connection. Unless of course they plan on yanking said jobs out of the area at some point in the not-too-distant future.... Oy.
shrader Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Did they ever say if anything was going to happen with the tower?
Cereal Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 But are the @%#$! slugs off the scorebaord yet?!??!?!!!

I debated that before I posted then realized the correct answer was incidental to the message so I chose one. Erroneously.

X. Benedict Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Name changes.... HSBC to FNA @WGRZ - Kilgore to Begnini http://www.buffalonews.com/entertainment/article533481.ece Ed's been doing this since before he had hair.
ROC Sabres Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 Where you going??? TO THE F'N ARENA!!! love it.

Bank names change more than the weather 'round these parts.
