Sabre Dance Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 I'm already pi$$ed at Time Warner for their recent fee increase and this would really tick me off. I'd have to seriously consider dumping them. This is tempered only by the fact that the Sabres have been playing poorly enough so that missing a game on TV is no cause for complaint...
Eleven Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 I'm already pi$$ed at Time Warner for their recent fee increase and this would really tick me off. I'd have to seriously consider dumping them. This is tempered only by the fact that the Sabres have been playing poorly enough so that missing a game on TV is no cause for complaint... Call them--coolly--and explain that you're considering DTV and ask that they revert your rate. Worked for me.
Bmwolf21 Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 I have no idea what to use the  for. What is that thing? And the wink doesn't work because I was going for that pounding my fist on the desk "you will listen to every word I say" tone with that post. So basically, listen to me or you will pay the price. And you should have only one response to this: :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: I use the  for when I am confused by a post, or it is so out of whack that I can't formulate a coherent reply. For those of us who think that the ability to watch the games matters You may have fantastic points, but it's difficult to get to them or even honestly consider them when you start with a giant straw man like that.
Sabel79 Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 I wonder if the Sabres lose their local cable outlet could they ask the NHL for permission to stream games to fans? PTR With the unconscionable if not illegal sweetheart deal the league has managed to put together with Comcast (and by extension, their mentally handicapped younger siblings at Cablevision / MSG... seriously, it's filthy), never in a million years. Just my, albeit extremely angry, opinion on that one...
nucci Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 Do something about center ice! It's so dumb that I paid all this money just to watch the opponent's network every game. I get the Sabres feed on CI every game so far.
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 I get the Sabres feed on CI every game so far. IN HD as well except for first 2 games
inkman Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 Can we include something about RJ in the letter to Mr. Black as well? His absolute butchering of Sczczechura (I know it's not easy but it's his job!) and whatever he is doing to Kassian's name just screams he's mailing it in and is on his way out.
Mox Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 IN HD as well except for first 2 games Ditto. Not getting the Sabres feed on Center Ice is more of a Comcast not wanting to give you both broadcasts than a problem with the Sabres or MSG.
Andrew Amerk Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 When TWC shuts down MSG, I hope they plan on offering me Center Ice for free.
inkman Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 When TWC shuts down MSG, I hope they plan on offering me Center Ice for free. Why not just switch to Directv?
dEnnis the Menace Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 Why not just switch to Directv? I just switched to TWC from DishNetwork. I'm not going back to a satellite, and FIOS isn't in my area. I plan to ask them the same thing that Andrew Amerk is, and that's CI for free, because the only reason I switched was for the Sabres games.
inkman Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 Just to put it out there...I switched to directv this summer and have no regrets. All Sabres games in HD, more HD channels, DVR control from my phone. It's just better than cable.
LabattBlue Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 If only the dish was smaller. I can't stand the thought of that giant wok on the side of my house or on a post in my backyard.

korab rules Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 Don't we have a constitutional right to MSG (in high def!) on Time Warner Cable? How can Ted Black let this happen? How does their internet service compare to roadrunner?
Who Else? Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 I just switched to TWC from DishNetwork. I'm not going back to a satellite, and FIOS isn't in my area. I plan to ask them the same thing that Andrew Amerk is, and that's CI for free, because the only reason I switched was for the Sabres games. I switched from dish to directtv this summer. I live in erie pa where it is the sabres home market. Dish did not provide MSG, and because of my location the Sabres games were still blacked out on center ice and the feed from NHL.com. There was no way other than getting directtv to watch games. Good luck TWC users. I just hope it gets settled so I dont have that annoying banner taking up the bottom part of the screen.
korab rules Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 Here is a story detailing the fight between MSG and Time Warner. Deal was worked out, but MSG is demanding Time Warner pay millions for MSG's music station "Fuse" which no one watches and Time Warner doesn't want. Time Warner rightfully balked. Time Warrner says they will do whatever it takes to make sure MSG and MSG+ are carried through the remainder of basketball and hockey season. Time Warner had better keep the Sabres on the air or 60% of the households in Buffalo will drop them like hot potatoes. Personally, I could care less whether I have a dish or cable - If Time Warner doesn't give me the programming I demand, direct TV will, and I will switch to them in a heartbeat. This is the problem I had with Sabres HD - he felt he was entitled to be provided with the show he wanted - but this is a free market society - the cable or dish company can choose to carry whatever they want - I know that I am free to choose the provider whose product I like best. If Time Warner drops MSG they will be out of business in the Buffalo area.
Sabel79 Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 Years ago, John McCain attempted to introduce legislation into the Senate which would have effectively allowed consumers to buy TV programming ala carte. For very obvious reasons, the cable / satellite industry spent untold millions to squash that, so tha they may continue to make the cable / satellite subscriber swallow the cost of thier awful programming in order to get the few things of interest. If you'll recall, Fuse was the sticking point in the MSG Dish Network fiasco last year. Not likely to change, and the cost will be passed onto TWC subscribers once they fold...

Someone else would have to explain more, but couldn't that end up being more expensive to buy a la carte?
biodork Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 Someone else would have to explain more, but couldn't that end up being more expensive to buy a la carte? Probably depends on what you're buying / what you watch... for people who love lots of channels, it's definitely cheaper to get a package deal. But for people who aren't into sports or only want a few specific channels, I'm sure it could be less expensive. I'm guessing ESPN would be a lot more per month than say, the SciFi channel. From what I've heard, the argument is that a lot of the niche channels are subsidized by the more popular ones and wouldn't survive if only available a la carte, but to me, if not enough people are willing to buy your product, then maybe you don't have as good of a product as you think you do!

If you end your arrangement with Time Warner and switch to another carrier then is that socialism? You either don't understand me or you're misrepresenting my position. None of us have some human right to watch the Sabres games, and it ain't in the Constitution. I want the Sabres to get out of the deal with MSG and broadcast the games through a local station. I don't care if they buy out the contract of have it invalidated in court. I want MSG out of the business of doing Sabres games. Getting out of a bad contract, and getting a better deal is not socialism. All the problems go away if they do things my way.
sabre4life Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 Someone else would have to explain more, but couldn't that end up being more expensive to buy a la carte? It would be cheaper to some...I have 10 channels in my Fav. list, I can't imagine 10 of these channels costing me what I pay now for 180 channels of complete garbage.
beerme1 Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 All the problems go away if they do things my way. I am going to try this at work this afternoon and when I get home. I'm guessing I get fired and then told I can always pack my ###### up if I dont like it her way!

Yes, it's socialism. :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: You are a broken record. I hope you are never able to watch a game in HD again, and that you are forever cursed with Doc Emrick's play by play call.
