biodork Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 My link Sorry if this is in another thread. Cool; he and Kotalik can re-live the good ol' days in Rochester. As far as the other guy (Paul Szczechura)... holy consonants, Batman!

SabresFan526 Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 For the CBA Experts out there, I'm curious what the maximum salary a player on a 2 way contract can receive at the AHL level. Is there one? Obviously, if you are on a one-way deal, you get paid that salary wherever you play (e.g. Kotalik makes $3 million this year no matter what). But a guy like Mike Ryan who is a career AHL guy, what is the maximum salary he could get on a two way deal? I'm interested by that. Is it enough to live on? I imagine they do okay and make about $120,000, which is considered a very high income for people who aren't professional athletes, but I wonder if that's enough reason to play hockey or pursue another career where you could potentially make that much with less violence on your body.
Andrew Amerk Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

I don't think there is a maximum for the AHL......see Wade Redden. However every AHL team gets 5 vets max. ....so Ryan and ConstanantSaladMan will count as 2 against the 5 possible if they are on the Amerks.
inkman Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 I'm looking forward to the 700 breakaways where he has the goalie dead to rights and sends to puck 5 feet wide. Well, that was the NHL version of Holzinger 2.0. He did seem to tear it up in the "A". Nice signing.

That 5 vets "dressed" I you will, correct? They can sign as many as they like (that fit on the roster including prospects), no? With those two, Kotalik, Morrissonn and Conboy (?), Stuart (?) things could get crowded.

With those two, Kotalik, Morrissonn and Conboy (?), Stuart (?) things could get crowded. That's a really great and more precise point. They can only dress 5, I suppose they could have more than 5 vets on the roster and healthy scratch one or more... this doesn't count goalies either, IIRC.
spndnchz Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Is Ryan even considered a vet with only 83 NHL games under his belt?
dEnnis the Menace Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Is Ryan even considered a vet with only 83 NHL games under his belt? that was what i was thinking too...wait...why are you asking the questions?! you always have the answers!
X. Benedict Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Is Ryan even considered a vet with only 83 NHL games under his belt? AHL regular season games count too. Found it... http://www.phpa.com/en/content/home/about/ahl-collective-bargaining-agreement/ What is the Veteran Rule? Each AHL Club must dress for each regularly scheduled or play-off game, at least eleven (11) Players, other than goaltenders, who have played in a total of not more than two hundred and sixty (260) regular season games in the National Hockey League, American Hockey League, International Hockey League, or any European Elite League, prior to the start of the season, and one (1) player, other than goaltenders, who has played in a total of not more than three hundred and twenty (320) regular season games in the National Hockey League, American Hockey League, International Hockey League, or any European Elite League, prior to the start of the season. Any Player who participates in European Elite League games during a hockey season in which the Player would be eligible to play in the Canadian Hockey League (excluding an overage year) shall not have such games count in the calculation of the two hundred and sixty (260) regular season games. Players on loan from the National Hockey League for a first fourteen (14) day conditioning period shall not be affected by the aforesaid experience requirement. In the event a Club dresses fewer than seventeen (17) skaters, the number eleven (11) shall be reduced accordingly. In the event the Member Clubs elect to dress eighteen (18) skaters, the development rule minimum number of eleven (11) shall be increased to twelve (12).
nfreeman Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 ...and on the 100th day with no hockey, all they had left to discuss was the re-signing of Mike Ryan. And then depression set in.
That Aud Smell Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 it is mid-summer -- i read this news, the thread ... and took (what seemed like) 5 minutes to realize that mike ryan is not clarke macarthur.
SabreStu Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Wasnt it Mike Ryan that accidentaly scored on Miller years ago?

Wade Redden is on a one way deal, so he's going to get paid the same amount of money regardless of whether he's in the NHL or AHL. What I'm curious about is if there is an AHL Salary maximum for guys on a 2 Way contract? I've never seen a guy on a 2 way contract making more than $120K/year at the AHL Level. I wasn't sure if that was negotiation or if there was a max number for how much a veteran is allowed to make on a 2 way contract at the AHL Level. 1 way contracts get paid the entirety of the salary regardless of what level of hockey they play at.

What I'm curious about is if there is an AHL Salary maximum for guys on a 2 Way contract? Ahhh, sorry, I'mz getting old. I didn't comprehend that. I'm not aware of a maximum, but it wouldn't make much sense to make the AHL salary close to the NHL minimum without signing the player to a one-way. Mike Faxomanis is set to make 250,000 in the AHL.....500,000 in the NHL. http://www.capgeek.com/players/display.php?id=496
X. Benedict Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Wasnt it Mike Ryan that accidentaly scored on Miller years ago? I think I recall him putting one past his old Rochester roomie.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 This is hopefully player depth that we will never need.........

The only restrictions are for players on entry level deals. And on another note, the second I saw this story, I immediately thought of Inkman's man crush for stone hands Ryan.
spndnchz Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 that was what i was thinking too...wait...why are you asking the questions?! you always have the answers! Here's a question: Why, when he was signed last Thursday do they wait until today to mention it? And another: How good is a guy with recent ACL surgery going to be? Color me unimpressed.

Rico4Hall12 Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Mike Ryan. A cheap ahl vet to round out the club, (Amerks). You will never see him during the regular season as a sabre.
