thesportsbuff Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 Why Florida? They're above the cap floor. As I mentioned, the Islanders and Predators need the most help in that regard. Because, as I mentioned, they fit in perfectly with that group of players. Wasn't saying they would be the ideal trading partner, more-so just making a joke that those seem to be the type of players Florida is after. Lol. They re-tooled their roster with a bunch of borderline AHLers that nobody really wanted. A group of journeymen 2nd & 3rd liners, some overpaid, others not, but none of them ever really found their niche elsewhere. Upshall, Versteeg, Goc, Kopecky, Fleischmann.... all decent players, but none of them went above and beyond to become the players we thought many of them would. Boyes and Kotalik certainly fit that bill, as does Morrisson (whose name I still never know if I'm spelling it right... ). Weiss and Booth are pretty much the only two exceptions outside of their youngins like Kulikov and Dadonov.
mudberry Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 Is Brad Boyes quickly becoming the new Sabres whipping boy now that Connolly is gone? Did someone actually say we could bury him in Rochester and that after less than half a year he hasn't lived up to expectations placed on him? Granted he isn't a Sabre savior, but he is a good player that I think will do well for us this coming year.

Did someone actually say we could bury him in Rochester and that after less than half a year he hasn't lived up to expectations placed on him? Granted he isn't a Sabre savior, but he is a good player that I think will do well for us this coming year. I'm not completely ready to give up on him, though I will say his play declined steadily after his first 5 games or so as a Sabre. Don't remember exactly when he was moved to center, it probably correlates. But I think the reason Boyes is getting so much negative talk is, for one, of course, his salary, and secondly he's probably one of the most easily-moveable players on the roster (out of the ones we wouldn't mind giving up). I think there are other teams out there that would be willing to take a chance on Boyes given his past production, and at the same time, his cap hit would be a GREAT number to move off of our roster, and yet a GREAT number for a team trying to reach the cap floor to add to theirs. Moving Boyes could be a win/win depending on the trading partner. Of course there's a million variables that can be taken into consideration in any trade, so who knows what will happen... but I don't think Boyes is becoming the new whipping boy-- it's just that a lot of us are still hoping for another trade and Boyes may be the most valuable piece we can trade without giving up too much, so his name will keep popping up.. it's not so much a "trade Boyes, he blows" thing.
... Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 The past few seasons injuries really helped the Sabres to beat themselves when it mattered most. My opinion is that they're going to try and stockpile "talent" in Rochester as much as possible. I think a trade would come only if it were a good one, not one just to dump salary - I figure they must have crunched the numbers a hundred times to make sure they could suffer the moves they've made so far without having to dump someone just for the sake of the salary cap. I do like XB's theory on keeping Morrisonn around until his value is higher - just through attrition during the course of the season.
gregkash Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 I think Adam has a real chance of making the team. Having played in the AHL and some NHL Experience, he could be a valuable 3rd line center in what looks like a 3 scoring line 1 checking line set up of the time this year. Kotalik and Morrisson are all but destined for the AHL. Ellis will almost certainly be in Rochester. For Adam to make the team he'd have to beat out Hecht. I'm fairly certain Lindy loves Hecht, and I also think if he plays the wing that Hecht is a valuable player, but a true Center with more offensive upside might be what it takes to unseat Hecht, or create a battle between Hecht and Boyes. I still honestly think there will be a trade made before the start of the season. Even if it's just unloading some people for picks, A.) to clear roster space for a young guy, and B.) to get below cap. Right now we're log jammed at every position besides goalie. Gotta trim some of that fat. I know everyone has a crush on Kassian, but the dude needs some time in the AHL to acclimate to the pro game, not only on the ice but off the ice well. Learning from Ellis, Kotalik and Morrison (Mainly Ellis) on how to be a true professional in Rochester is going to be invaluable for him as a player. I wouldn't be surprised if injuries happen to see him getting some playing time in the NHL but I'd really love to have him play a year in the AHL first and then make the jump.

Having played in the AHL and some NHL Experience, he could be a valuable 3rd line center in what looks like a 3 scoring line 1 checking line set up of the time this year. If he doesn't he's really close. From what I could tell he only needs to adjust to the speed of the back-check assignments in the NHL. In the offensive zone - I think he's ready. SabresFan526 Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 But from the Sabres' perspective, why should they trade Morrisonn? They wouldn't get much in return for him. Wouldn't they be better off keeping him as a relatively low-cost insurance policy? I think the Sabres could get a 4th round draft choice for Morrisonn, which would be a good pick. Keeping him in the organization is fine, but first, I don't think he would clear waivers as any team that may have wanted to trade for him would get him for free and I do believe he is significantly better than AHL defenseman. Second, even if you kept him in the organization and he did clear waivers (which is a big if), I cannot believe he would not be taken by another team on re-entry waivers if the Sabres wanted to bring him up. The only way I think they could do it without re-entry would be on emergency. Assuming all of that is the case, Morrisonn is no longer an insurance option but someone any team could take off the Sabres hands for free with the Sabres paying half the salary. It'd be better off just trading him in my opinion.

OTOH, I think you are right that in order to send him down at the beginning of the season, he will need to clear waivers -- so a trade probably does make sense.

Morrison knows the East and the conference. I think it is 50/50 Garth Snow picks him up on the Isle if he's waived. And it will cost them nothing.

Drunkard Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 truly a stinky linky I always referred to that description as a warm carl/karl. A cold carl involves a plane of glass, the warm carl uses saran wrap, and the hot carl goes right for the gusto with direct skin contact, which is definitely the proper way to go if your filming german porn or something along those lines.
korab rules Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 No, no, no. A hot Carl is something entirely different. Unfortunately, there has been a great deal of homogenization and bastardization of these terms over the years. Here is the link to the urban dictionary definition. This one is correct. There is another entry for Hot Carl that started off correct but now has 15 different definitions, all wrong. I blame it on your generation, drunkard.

Everybody knows that description you linked is classic ATM or ass to mouth. It doesn't need a nickname, as the acronym suits it just fine. I like the cold, warm, hot carl/karl progression of glass, saran wrap, and skin contact. It works well. Plus if you're going to describe the saran wrap version as the hot carl/karl then what would you describe the direct skin contact version? It doesn't make any sense logically. Glass = cold because the recipient doesn't feel that steamy log. Warm = saran wrap because it absorbs some of the blow. Hot = full speed ahead and direct contact with that hot, steamy log. I may have to write my Congressman to see if we can get a Constitutional Amendment or something.
