dEnnis the Menace Posted July 13, 2011 Author Report Posted July 13, 2011 You know, I'm really happy they won and I'll be watching on Sunday, but I just don't get that "WOO! WOOOOOO!" feeling watching this. I guess that feeling just grows on you... Hockey is by far my first sport, but watching either National Soccer team gives me that WOO! feeling. Had my sister not played the last 12 or 13 years, I may not feel that way though.
LGR4GM Posted July 13, 2011 Report Posted July 13, 2011 USA!!! WOOOO!!! I hope SUNDAY is a well deserved win for team USA!!!
Two or less Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 Hate to promote stuff on this site but figured people would enjoy it if they hear of it... Sundays final will be shown at the Back Nine grill, in Rochester, which is owned by Abby Wambach's brother Andy. It's located at 3500 east avenue. Web site- http://www.thebackninegrill.com/ I can not make it due to work, however, they are doing drink specials and also a $10 hot dog, hamburger, pizza, salad buffet starting at noon. Kickoff is at 2pm. Also, i have heard, that ESPN is sending a camera crew there for which i am sure they will have live look-ins to that place during the match. I know a lot of USMNT supporters are going, and all of Abby's friends and family, should be a very awesome atmosphere.

I'm happy the final is vs. Japan. It's a feel-good either way.
ROC Sabres Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 USA!!! WOOOO!!! I hope SUNDAY is a well deserved win for team USA!!! AMERICA!! FU#K YEA!!
Cereal Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 AMERICA!! FU#K YEA!! By the way, the USA has already won the World Cup TWICE this week! My labmates here at Virginia Tech have captured both the Kid-size and Adult-size Humanoid Division Championships at RoboCup 2011 in Turkey. Very cool stuff, and a huge deal for anyone involved in the robotics world. One of the goals of RoboCup is to have a team of robots that can defeat the human World Cup champions in soccer by the year 2050. Creepy, eh? :w00t: By the way, most articles you'll see just make fun of how slow and stupid the humanoids are, but here are some: Kid-size: http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-20078777-1/u.s-droids-carry-the-day-at-2011-robocup-finals/ Adult-size: http://techland.time.com/2011/07/11/robots-win-world-cup-of-robot-soccer/ Robocup ABOUT: http://www.robocup2011.org/en/content.asp?PID={5B1EF7EC-2B9A-4D0D-8AE6-05AF13DBCBA9}

DR HOLLIDAY Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 I was going for Germany because I am of German descent but I hope the US wins it all now because they were almost hosed by the refs during the Brazil game.......Plus beating France is a very good thing........

A guy I knew in high school used to (and still might) lead the U. Texas team; he's a robotics prof there. It's about the only instance in which I can imagine myself rooting for anything Texas-related. Back on topic: Is there a good place to watch the final at? I know Papa Jake's and Thirsty Buffalo both had good crowds for the men's World Cup; what about this coming Sunday?
nobody Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 I'm worried about the US taking on Japan. First Germany and then Sweden - those were some big upsets.
dEnnis the Menace Posted July 15, 2011 Author Report Posted July 15, 2011 Japan just seemed to be running circles around Sweden towards the middle of the second half. I think we have enough to stick with them! Either way, it'll be a good game and I agree that it'll be feel good no matter what the outcome
korab rules Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 I'm sorry, but soccer is unwatchable. Let me know when one of them takes their shirt off in celebration.
Sabre Dance Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 I'm sorry, but soccer is unwatchable. Let me know when one of them takes their shirt off in celebration. ...or in frustration or anger or - well, for any reason. If it's hot, will they play "shirts" and "skins"? I'd probably tune in for that. a-HEM!
SwampD Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 I'm sorry, but soccer is unwatchable. Let me know when one of them takes their shirt off in celebration. Baseball and basketball are unwatchable. Soccer is totally watchable,.. and I will be watching in 30 minutes. OH! YOU BETCHA!!!.
darksabre Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 Baseball and basketball are unwatchable. Soccer is totally watchable,.. and I will be watching in 30 minutes. OH! YOU BETCHA!!!. Agreed. And it's gaining in popularity in the states as well. The USL is getting more fan support, and people like me are even watching it. Call me a bandwagoner, I don't know much about soccer, but I find myself watching it now when it's on, even Premier League or Bundesliga. It's grown on me. I'll be watching today.
wjag Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 I'm sorry, but soccer is unwatchable. Let me know when one of them takes their shirt off in celebration. I'm with you. I'm watching it though anyway. US bringing it early.
wjag Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 Just imagine what could happen if they could shoot with precision. Could be 3, or 4 nothing already...
Eleven Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 About 30 mins in, and I'm getting concerned that all the energy spent in the first 20 on a big push for a first goal, with several brutally-close chances, might leave us wanting for energy later. Damn, Wambach off of the woodwork.

Damn, Wambach off of the woodwork. You do get the feeling Japan is saving it for the second half. American's are doing all the running right now.
darksabre Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 So many missed opportunities. I feel like I'm watching the Sabres, trying to make the perfect goal instead of getting it on net and getting an ugly one.
Eleven Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 Well, the US is taking shots; I'm not sure we're looking for the pretty goal. I'm not sure what the total is so far, but it was 9 through 30 mins, and that is a lot. EDIT: 12 in the first half. That's a pretty good pace.
darksabre Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 Agreed. And Japan keeps mailing them over the net. No dirty play so far, just competition. I like it.
