shrader Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 OK, so here is my question regarding the first scenario. Let's say everybody is healthy. If we have 3 mil to play with, why is it McNabb has to be sent down even if MAG was also sent down to create a roster spot for McNabb? I understand the 23 man roster, but McNabb would not be able to stay even if there was a spot. Unless a forward was sent down equal to or greater than McNabb's cap hit. And then we'd have 8 D-men. There's also potential cap relief in the form of Jochen Hecht going on LTIR.

Gragnani played his first NHL game in 2007-08 and accordingly cannot be sent down without being subject to a waiver claim by another team. Not so for McNabb.
JJFIVEOH Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 There's also potential cap relief in the form of Jochen Hecht going on LTIR. Yeah, that might help in the long run if/when McNabb comes back. Gragnani played his first NHL game in 2007-08 and accordingly cannot be sent down without being subject to a waiver claim by another team. Not so for McNabb. Good point. So if they ever get a healthy roster then somebody will have to be moved to open up a spot for McNabb. Guess it all depends on whether or not they want to carry 8 D-men. I still don't see where 3 mil comes into play. That's certainly not what they'll save with Hecht on LTIR. It helps though. Either way, when was the last year we've been able to have discussions about freeing up cap space.
darksabre Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 Watchin the Canes/Bruins game. Rask seems to have become a better goalie in the mold of Thomas. I'm sure he is learning Timmy's game from him. The Bruins are gonna have some great goaltending after Thomas leaves.

If he hadn't struggled last year, Tiny Tim would be out of work.
darksabre Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 Wasn't it all Rask two years ago? If he hadn't struggled last year, Tiny Tim would be out of work. Yup, but I think Rask a few years ago is different than current Rask. His game has evolved. Edit: it's also so weird that Carolina plays so well against Boston. I think the skill and speed they have on offense is tough for Boston's D to handle.
Lanny Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 I still don't see where 3 mil comes into play. That's certainly not what they'll save with Hecht on LTIR. It helps though. They've had guys on LTIR all year, Hecht certainly isn't the first. The $3M is the annualized salary that they could take on. So someone whose contract pays them $3M for the whole season, their salary paid out for the remainder of the season would fit under the cap.

OK, I didn't realized they had actually saved that much based on all the inuries this year. Just confused me becuase it was just recently Hamilton was saying that there is no way McNabb was staying up this year full time based on the cap. But I think that was right when BFLO started getting a ton of injuries. With McNabb being sent down, I guess it's not an issue anyways. It'll be interesting to see who gets the open spot (MAG or McNabb) if/when one D-man gets hurt.
darksabre Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 Sam Gagner ties Gretzky and Coffey for most points in an Edmonton game with 4 goals and 4 assists tonight. Insane.
Two or less Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 Sam Gagner ties Gretzky and Coffey for most points in an Edmonton game with 4 goals and 4 assists tonight. Insane. Watched the end of Game Center Live. Edmonton awarded him with the third, second and first star of the game. Classy.
RazielSabre Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 Must see save to believe .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4d4kN8pUgSE&feature=player_embedded Someone's been watching Hasek highlights.... amazing save. Out of interest if that had gone in it still wouldn't be a goal would it? he was unable to make the save because of the wild player so it would have been discounted theoretically.

It counts if the refs thought one of the Avs D knocked the Wild player down. To me, it looked like he lost an edge and went down on his own power, but that's with the advantage of seeing the replay a few times. I can see how a ref would think otherwise with only their live viewing to judge by.

shrader Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 You also add in a bunch of bonuses some guys didn't get. Ennis/Myers/Kassian? I can't picture any of the other entry level guys having much in the way of bonuses.
spndnchz Posted February 3, 2012 Author Report Posted February 3, 2012 Ennis/Myers/Kassian? I can't picture any of the other entry level guys having much in the way of bonuses. Adam and Myers are the only players on the NHL roster that still qualify for bonuses. Kassian, interestingly enough doesn't have one in his contract.

Kassian, interestingly enough doesn't have one in his contract. When you say that they qualify for their bonuses, are you saying that they're on track for achieving the bonus written in their contract? If that's the case and Ennis did have one built in, that would probably make it a games played bonus.

shrader Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 Yes to the first part. Ennis is just a straight, two way, no bonus, deal. I would have never guessed that. Adam has some sort of bonus but he doesn't. I guess he has a better agent.
spndnchz Posted February 3, 2012 Author Report Posted February 3, 2012 I would have never guessed that. Adam has some sort of bonus but he doesn't. I guess he has a better agent. They both get paid the same 875 deal but Adam has to get his bonus to make it. Ennis doesn't.

shrader Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 They both get paid the same 875 deal but Adam has to get his bonus to make it. Ennis doesn't. Ok, so Ennis has the better agent now. Those bonuses are one thing I never bothered to read up on, specifically how they can exceed the entry level max salary through bonuses.
nobody Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 They both get paid the same 875 deal but Adam has to get his bonus to make it. Ennis doesn't. The real reason Lindy is not playing him?
korab rules Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 The real reason Lindy is not playing him? Ralph is cheap!
shrader Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 The real reason Lindy is not playing him? Yeah. If you want a guy to not hit his games played bonus, bench him once.
