Sabre Dance Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 This just up on the nhl site http://bluejackets.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=613971 This is the kind of constructive message that SHOULD come from an owner, not calling out your #1 goalie by saying your teenage daughter could play better. I hope TPegs is paying attention...

I hope TPegs is paying attention... I say old boy. Got any grey poupon ? TPegs has a lot to learn in how to interact with his fan base. I'm still waiting for him to pull out the condiments and eat that microphone. Columbus has said that they are going to do what it takes to ice a winning team and that essentially no one in the organization is safe in order to attain that goal. This is basically the polar opposite of what Tpegs and co. have done. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the blue jackets approach has them surpass the sabres. Teams can have success with a teardown approach or the turning over of a roster in todays N.H.L. I don't think the sabres necessarily need a complete teardown but they have to be willing to admit they have a problem first and foremost and the Sabres as an organization are still at the head in the ground stage. Wake up please !

I hope TPegs is paying attention... Ummmm, Pegula DID convey to Sabres fans his commitment to winning. Just like most other team owners with a winning attitude. Do you think they would say they would rather be mediocre and the fans need to deal with it? As has been pointed out, the Sabres are not in need of a complete rebuild. If Pegula had come in with the worst team in the league I'm sure his message would have been different. With the Sabres finishing the second half of last year with the best record in the conference, do you think the fans would have been happy if Pegula came out and said he was cleaning house? Words only mean so much, it's actions that speak louder. The words of the Columbus owner are meaningless unless he can back them up.
shrader Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Just taking a wild guess here, but I'm betting 29 teams 'make a play' to host the All Star Game every year. I know nothing about how the process works or anything, but I mean, I don't think the reason Buffalo hasn't hosted an ASG in forever is because they passed up the opportunity or didn't request to. 28 teams anyway. The Islanders know better than to even bother with their horrendous building.
apuszczalowski Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 28 teams anyway. The Islanders know better than to even bother with their horrendous building. You can probably throw Edmonton in there too I don't know why, but I thought they held an ASG in Buffalo when HSBC opened, but after looking it up, it was the draft in 1998 that they held in Buffalo Apparently Ted Black wants to host a ASG, Draft and Winter Classic in Buffalo, but the dates are filling up fast. Next available ASG is probably 2015 (2013 in Columbus, 2014 is an Olympic year so probably no ASG if NHLers go to the Olympics), Red Wings look like the favorites for hosting the 2013 Winter Classic so it would be 2014 for the next one of those, same with the Draft with Pittsburgh getting it this year. I'm really surprised the NHL hasn't looked into some of the Synthetic ice surfaces available for using outdoors and holding a winter classic further south. I have seen some that they said have been tested and feel just like real ice when skating on

apuszczalowski Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Carolina v. Tampa at Talladega. Redneck heaven. But its gotta be on the infield during the Nascar race, otherwise theres just gonna be too many confused fans being in Talledega and not seeing cars go around
rickshaw Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Didn't want to start a new thread but I have a question about Tim Thomas. Personally, i don't like the guy. He comes off as this super nice guy but I think he looks and acts like a smug f@ck. Since the White House snub I find him even douchier. So what is it? Is he thie nice guy or a smug piece of shat? Rivetting question I know but I'm battling a cold and this is all I got!

I just think its funny that rumnors are swirling of him being dealt now by the Bruins to get the best return and to allow Rask to take over now

LaFontaineToMogilny Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Tim Thomas is on my very short list of players I wouldn't mind seeing pick up a career ending injury.
apuszczalowski Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 BTW, Gleason given a 4 year extension in Carolina and The Flames and Jets swap 2 AHL type players Darcy still hard at work trying to figure out the market and find a GM dumber then him that he can fleece in a deal
spndnchz Posted January 30, 2012 Author Report Posted January 30, 2012 In other news... Crosby touched the ice with his skate today...
Sabres Fan in NS Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 In other news... Crosby touched the ice with his skate today... Was he wearing it on his foot, or holding it in his hand?
apuszczalowski Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Was he wearing it on his foot, or holding it in his hand? Does it matter? He touched the Ice! Can't wait for the next 5 weeks of speculation as to when he will be back and how he is feeling and the occasional comment from someone like Roenick calling him a wuss
Who Else? Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Does it matter? He touched the Ice! rickshaw Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Tim Thomas is on my very short list of players I wouldn't mind seeing pick up a career ending injury. Ahh the good old days. Mogilny rushing down the left side of the tv screen, down to the goal line, cutting across the crease, top shelf backhander. Love the avatar. I said while watching the game that I'd actually enjoy seeing him rip his groing to shreds. Don't normally wish injury to players but I'd have no qualms with it happening to him.

Do you really love the lamp, or are you just saying it because you saw it?
thesportsbuff Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 So the Crosby news from this weekend has me confused. Some reports I've read seem to imply that his concussion symptoms stemmed from the neck injury rather than a second concussion, while other reports say he suffered his neck injury in addition to a second concussion. Also, all reports seem to indicate that the neck injury is "fully healed"... so I guess I don't get how the injury could be affecting him if it's considered to be "fully healed." Basically, when the news broke, twitter separated into two groups-- the group that thinks he should retire immediately, and the group that thinks it's actually good news, and thinks he'll be back for playoffs. So to put it simply.. what is it?

It really feels like nothing more than an attempt to distract people from the concussion.

It really feels like nothing more than an attempt to distract people from the concussion. But it seemed to work for Connolly when he was out for a while and changed his treatment. He hasn't had many, if any serious concussion issues since, its everything else. The other thing I see from this is that it could be a way for teams to get around the rules for keeping players out due to concussion, by saying its a neck injury and not a head injury
deluca67 Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 But thats just my opinion also. He plays dirty, but I give him credit for atleast being willing to back it all up. I just think its funny that rumnors are swirling of him being dealt now by the Bruins to get the best return and to allow Rask to take over now It would be a smart move for the Bruins to deal Thomas this season. It opens up $5 mil of cap space next season and his value can only go down from this point. It helps that Rask is a very good goaltender. They cold move Thomas and still be a strong contender for a Cup.
