ok, I missed the first post. but I added info about the Kyle McLaren hit and skating for Yaroslavl before the plane crash.

they are all freak events/accidents. I don't know how he would have avoided any of those... then again if I was in Zednik's shoes I would be investing in all sorts of disabilty and life insurance.

I'm pretty sure that if I were his friend I'd probably reconsider hanging out with him.

6 days of no NHL games(not counting the 1 game last night) for the all-star break? It's bad enough no one cares about the all-star game, but make it even worse by dragging it out for days on end with the drafting of the teams, blah, blah, blah...

Niittymaki cleared waivers.

Surprised. I thought someone like Tampa or Columbus might take a flyer on him. But I can see Columbus not wanting to do it - they probably don't want to screw up their chances at the top pick.

I'd probably still hang out with him since he's a pro hockey player, but I would definitely invest in a bubble boy protection suit

Hanging out would be fine, playing pickup hockey with him would be a different story. Defintly stay off the ice if he is out there

Columbus Blue Jacket fans planning a protest for the weekend...

This part of the interview:

“We’re going to get to a point very quickly where it’s going to be obvious to people how extreme we’re getting,” McConnell said.

Within two weeks, McConnell said he and Priest, Howson, senior adviser Craig Patrick and interim coach Todd Richards will decide whether they want to tweak the roster or overhaul it. The NHL trade deadline is Feb. 27.

“Every option you can think of is being considered,” McConnell said. “When the ‘nuclear’ option is mentioned, I cringe less now than I did two months ago. That doesn’t mean that’s what we’re going to do, but it certainly becomes a more realistic choice.

“It has to be pretty clear (by the deadline) which way we’re going to go. But one way or another, we are committed to improving. We thought we did this last summer; we didn’t, for whatever reason. It’s hard to put your finger on it, but we’re going to keep searching for the right answers.”

Can you imagine trying to control such a crowd? The Columbus police must be terrified.

This just up on the nhl site

We began looking at why our team was not performing at an acceptable level very early this season and assessing where we are and where we want to go. We added Craig Patrick, an experienced and highly respected figure in the hockey community, as a senior advisor to assist in this endeavor. While this process is not complete, we have clearly defined our options and are finalizing our plans.

I understand you want to know what we’re going to do to fix this, but it is important for us to maintain a degree of discretion to prevent putting ourselves at a competitive disadvantage. I can tell you action will be taken in the coming weeks and months, be it around the trade deadline, the entry draft and/or free agency that will be indicative of our direction.

Sounds kind of familiar.

Where the heck is the Sabres' Craig Patrick?

Pegula must be finding it hard to find a experienced hockey man that doesn't have firing Regier listed #1 on their things I would do if I were in charge list.

I was thinking the other day that Buffalo should make a play for this. It's been a long time since 1978.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Terry and Ted Black don't put in for it.

We better be good next year so that I have a reason to make a trip to Columbus.

The wife and I have already started looking at hotels and already got an email from the Jackets about it, so if we're still in Cleveland we're going to try to go and make a weekend out of it. I think it would be pretty cool for our little guy to see all the players and events.

Just taking a wild guess here, but I'm betting 29 teams 'make a play' to host the All Star Game every year. I know nothing about how the process works or anything, but I mean, I don't think the reason Buffalo hasn't hosted an ASG in forever is because they passed up the opportunity or didn't request to.

From what I've seen from this years event, it certainly looks like it is aimed at kids. Probably better than crumudgeons like us. ;)

I think being host of the first Winter Classic puts Buffalo at the end of the list for hosting the All-Star game.

It would great to have a All-Star game in Buffalo, for the NHL it is a wiser move to put the All-Star game in the newer markets to help promote the game.

I understand why the ASG is in Atlanta, Columbus, etc., from time to time, but I still think the Sabres should push for it. Hockey isn't going to thrive in certain cities with or without the ASG. (Atlanta is a notable example.)
