shrader Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 1 - 2 - we want the 3rd pick in the draft....If Carolina wins, that's where we'd be picking if draft were today...Anyone care? We'll find a way to get screwed when a better team wins the lottery and jumps over us like New Jersey did last year.

Right now that is ALL I care about. The season is shot. I'm hoping we make the top two and have a shot at Yakupov or Grigorenko. Must-watch TV!
LabattBlue Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 Found this answer to my previous post regarding who gets invited to the White House ceremony(for some reason that post got moved to the Tim Thomas trainwreck)... Chiarelli said the event was not mandatory. Ex-Bruins Tomas Kaberle, Mark Recchi, and Shane Hnidy were in attendance, as was Steven Kampfer, the other American from last year’s roster. Kaberle’s Canadiens are off until tomorrow. Michael Ryder couldn’t attend because the Dallas Stars host the Ducks tonight. First-year Bruins Joe Corvo and Benoit Pouliot were not present for the ceremony.
darksabre Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 There's also a quote floating around that Ferrence thought Thomas skipping out was kinda weird.

apuszczalowski Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 Narrow miss. http://www.liveleak....=6f0_1327357850 Zednik should really think about never stepping foot in an arena again The guy has his neck cut in Buffalo by a skate, now he comes close to be crushed by the roof collapsing on a rink he is on
OverPowerYou Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 Zednik should really think about never stepping foot in an arena again The guy has his neck cut in Buffalo by a skate, now he comes close to be crushed by the roof collapsing on a rink he is on What happened to him after that whole incident? Where did he go until now?
RazielSabre Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 So Ovi is refusing to participate in the All-Star game? I haven't seen the hit or Shanny's take on it but fair play for doing what he wants. His a showman and if his heart isn't in it then where's the fun.
shrader Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 So Ovi is refusing to participate in the All-Star game? I haven't seen the hit or Shanny's take on it but fair play for doing what he wants. His a showman and if his heart isn't in it then where's the fun. If he's currently serving a suspension when the all star game is played, I don't think he should be allowed to play. Yeah they're trying to showcase their top players, but doesn't that undermine the suspension if they let him play?
Who Else? Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 Don't think he should have been picked anyway. They only wanted him in for his status. The All-Star game is an embarrassment for the sport and now they can't shove Crosby or Ovi down america's throat.
bunomatic Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 I'll say it. Ovi's heart just isn't in it much anymore. I think in time he'll pull a ' they're my toys and I'm going home ' and head back to Russia to play in the khl where they'll give him a boatload of cash and stroke him like this league used to. It wasn't too long ago when people would pick him over Crosby in the ' who would you start a franchise with " conversations. I was one but in hindsight I think I was wrong.
Eleven Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 If he's currently serving a suspension when the all star game is played, I don't think he should be allowed to play. Yeah they're trying to showcase their top players, but doesn't that undermine the suspension if they let him play? But he is allowed to play. He's just choosing to be a dick about it.
shrader Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 But he is allowed to play. He's just choosing to be a dick about it. I know. I was just throwing that thought out there. It kind of reminds me of how I think players who are in the penalty box at the end of overtime should not be allowed to participate in the shootout. The player is serving a punishment, why is he allowed to play?
RazielSabre Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 But he is allowed to play. He's just choosing to be a dick about it. To be fair he said his on a suspension so his heart isn't isn't it knowing he shouldn't be playing. 'I don't deserve to go' was one quote. He doesn't agree with the suspension, but thats a separate issue. The League insist on ramming Crosby and Ovi down everyones throats and it's annoying, on that basis I'm glad neither are there but I also agree with what he says on a personal level. There are plenty of talented players, it's about time they had their own show.

Looks like they should have expanded their field. Selling your top players is fine, but ramming just two of them proved to be the folly.

To NOT build your marketing around them would have been more foolish.

I recall Stamkos being pretty goo dfor the last few years, Toews, Malkin, Backstrom,Datsyuk, etc. and don't forget the extra spin you get from Americans.
nobody Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 Per Twitter: TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie Anyone want a goalie? SJ has put netminder Antero Nittymaki on waivers.

Leafs fans will be all over this one He actually has a pretty good win/loss record this year, and a decent GAA, but a sub .900 save percentage. Surprised they can't move him via trade right now, unless maybe they pull him off waivers if they see some interest in him
darksabre Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 Per Twitter: TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie Anyone want a goalie? SJ has put netminder Antero Nittymaki on waivers. You'd have to think Columbus gives him a shot.

I don't disagree that there are a lot of other good to great players they could be promoting. The NHL has been doing that, on a smaller scale. I've seen national commercials featuring Miller, Kane, Tim Thomas, Staal and others. But the consensus around hockey has been that Crosby/Ovechkin were the top two superstars of the league, for various reasons, so just like the NFL, where they promote Manning/Brady heavily, they center their promotion and marketing around those two. You'd have to think Columbus gives him a shot. It would be smart. Mason has been terrible this year. 5-18-2 and a 3.42 GAA with an .882 SV%. Sanford, who was supposed to be his backup, has outplayed him.

Yes but not often at the cost of other extremely talented players like Kessel, Spezza, Stamkos and even players like Nash getting overlooked. At least that happens less so with Football (Beckham being the exception mainly because the Brits have seen him grow up and his kind of like a national Football hero). From TSN.ca's Rumor section: According to Boston.com (The Boston Globe), the decision by Tim Thomas to not join his teammates at the White House on Monday may be the first step towards the Stanley Cup champions and their Conn Smythe Trophy winner eventually parting ways.An article on the website notes that both GM Peter Chiarelli and Cam Neely were disappointed in Thomas' decision to decline the invitation in Washington. The 37-year-old's no-movement clause expires at the end of the season, and with the emergence of back-up Tuukka Rask, Thomas could bring a strong return on the trade market. Read more at Boston.com. I only mention this because it had occured to me that this is a step they might take, Thomas would bring gold back and can't have much left before his eventual decline happens. I can think of plenty of teams that would trade their stars for him (Columbus being an obvious one). EDIT: Last but not least just found this while browsing capgeek.com. http://capgeek.com/charts.php?Team=12 That can't be right, most of the damn team are UFA/RFA status? Just seems incredible.
