Per multiple sources, Carolina has traded Alexei Ponikarovsky to the Devils for a 2012 4th round pick and Albany D Joe Sova.

I saw this and wondered it was worth posting.

But thanks.

Probably not worth posting, but I'm bored and searching twitter for some Friday night hockey news!

Nah. It does make sense to me.

Great day if you're a hockey fan, plenty to watch on the NHL Network.

Rangers at Bruins

Sharks at Canucks

Montreal at Toronto

Fast paced game in Boston, first period took 31 minutes of real time to play.

Jack Edwards with am interesting stat, the Bruins and Rangers are 1 & 2 in fighting majors. Taking a closer look, the best three teams in the East, Rangers, Bruins and Sens are 1,2 &3 in majors and penalty minutes per game. On the flip side, the worst team in the league, Blue Jackets, are 4th.

It sure is fun to watch Boston lose. Especially like that.

Agreed. Tastes like justice.

The Ference boarding penalty was very subtle, but dirty, which is exactly how Boston operates. You notice Ference push his right leg into the Rangers player's left leg from behind and pushed him into the boards. Complete dirt.

Boston has operated like that since I started watching hockey. They have one Cup to show for it.

Filly has operated like that since I started watching hockey. They have no Cups to show for it.

Fortune does not reward the dirty.

They didn't call boarding. The call was a charge.

Not every aggressive play is dirty. Ference was the puck carrier on the play, moved the puck ahead and went after it. Ference had a great deal of speed behind him and caught the Ranger on a bad angle. It was careless and worthy of a penalty, even an extra game by the league, that doesn't make it dirty.

So a play that is careless and worthy of a penalty is not dirty?

"Dirty", IMO, usually includes a level of intent. I don't share your opinion in regards to the leg contact. You implied that it was deliberate, at least that is how I read it. I thought the leg contact was incidental.

I noticed that. Most certainly deserves a visit with Shanny.

I didn't see the play but I'll chime in on dirty vs not dirty. I'm with DeLuca, "dirty" implies intent. Stupid and accidental is not dirty IMO. It's just stupid and accidental.

I will also agree. However, how do you objectively determine intent from the league's perspective? Kaleta, Tootoo, Marchand, etc. wouldn't get the benefit of the doubt based on their history, regardless of the mechanics of the play in question. To me, the only thing the league can objectively do is punish the act, regardless of intent and/or whether it resulted in injury. Of course, the league like the joke it is, always takes intent and occurrence of injury into account.

I cannot really comment on "punishability" of this incident anyway as I didn;t see it. I was just commenting on my opinion of dirty vs not dirty. Punishment can (and maybe should) be separated from intent.

I didn't see the play either, I was just trying to spin off into a different but related topic. It's just every time I hear Shanahan or anybody associated with the NHL mention "intent" or "there was no injury" as some kind of justification for league discipline I cringe.
