Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 At the risk of over using this ... Darcy re-signed Connolly for two years at a cap hit of $4.50M per. Burke signed Connolly in FA for two years at a cap hit of $4.75M per. So ... what you're saying is one of these is good, while the other is bad? But by doing so, he forced Darcy to sign Lieno as the #2 center at the same price......I say that with 40% seriousness Sort of like word got out the Sabres were talking to the Ducks and Burke jumps in the pile. Either he prevents a main competitor from getting better, or he drives up the price for them to try and do so. Maybe Darcy can give Burke a lil' "Don't come shopping here!!!"

Burke signed Connolly in FA for two years at a cap hit of $4.75M per. So ... what you're saying is one of these is good, while the other is bad? Ok, it was a little hyperbole to say "every" move Darcy makes has made us worse. For example, drafting Tyler Myers was a good move that made us better. Matching Vanek's offer sheet was probably a good move that made us better (I know that's debatable for some). And yes, signing Connolly to an extension for $4.5 was a good move (in my opinion). But I'm mostly talking about transactions that are outside of the standard procedure of drafting, re-signing, etc. Outside of the Regehr trade, and I guess acquiring/signing Ehrhoff, Darcy hasn't had many trades or UFA signings that made us better since the lockout. TSB pretty consistantly defended Connolly here if I remember so I'm thinking he thought both GM's made good signings there. Yup. But by doing so, he forced Darcy to sign Lieno as the #2 center at the same price......I say that with 40% seriousness Toronto got the best center available after Richards, we'll just leave it at that.
Who Else? Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 How bad is Burke? Are you kidding me? Let's see... he paid a high price in a trade (something Darcy will seemingly never do) for a legitimate 30+ goal scorer in Phil Kessel, who, believe it or not, is proving to be worth the price (also got Joe Colborne who is tearing up the AHL). He brought in a real captain and top-pair defenseman in Phaneuf (not Craig Rivet). He also added some scoring wingers in Lupul via trade (again, something Darcy refuses to do), and MacArthur via free agency. Added two nice depth centers, Lombardi and Steckel, along with a 1st/2nd line center in Connolly. He's done a great job rebuilding this team and yes, they are playoff contenders this season. Oh, and he did all this after winning the cup with Anaheim... how BAD is Burke! Get real man... every move Burke has made has improved his team. Every move Darcy makes makes us worse. Where has it got them? Is all I'm asking. T.O. looked good as a Bill too. If names and contracts were the equivalent of championships or even playoff berths you would be singing the praises of the Rangers too.
Iron Crotch Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 I assume it's an injury, but Hiller just left the ice mid-first period for the Ducks with a 4-1 lead over the Jackets... only reason I bring it up is with all the Miller-Hiller trade rumors swirling around, my mind immediately though "was he just traded?" But probably just a groin injury or something... Hiller not on the bench, BTW.

If names and contracts were the equivalent of championships or even playoff berths you would be singing the praises of the Rangers too. Wtf does T.O. or any individual player have to do with what we are talking about here? Brian Burke took an abysmal team full of scrubs and has rebuilt them into a bona-fide playoff contender. "Where has that gotten them?" The bulk of their players have been there less than 3 full seasons and they've already gone from lottery contenders to one of the better teams in the league. If they could get consistent goaltending they would be really scary. From the midway point of last season through today, they have surely been one of the top 10 teams in the league.
RazielSabre Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 As much as I dislike Regier and Ruff I hate missing the playoffs more. I was wonderign that myself, since he never left the ice he can't be prenalized for coming off the bench, can he? I doubt it but the club and the coach can be penalised. Yet again it does show favour towards the Bruins and if the family links mentioned in the article are true that is something that does bother me, greatly.
spndnchz Posted January 9, 2012 Author Report Posted January 9, 2012 Columbus Blue Jackets coach Scott Arniel fired.
Sabres Fan in NS Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Columbus Blue Jackets coach Scott Arniel fired. Uhmmm ... very interesting, Alice.
rbochan Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Columbus Blue Jackets coach Scott Arniel fired. I wasn't aware that you could fire your head coach.
Patty16 Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 I wasn't aware that you could fire your head coach. You can but only once "the market has been set" .....and youre out of creamsicles

I was watching the game last night and watched him leave after the Duck's 4th goal. ...Watched the game to see if the Ducks announcers would mention trade rumors, which they did not.
RazielSabre Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Columbus Blue Jackets coach Scott Arniel fired. Finally! Maybe something will happy here. Maybe. Wonder how the new coach will do.
shrader Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 I need to bring back the Marchand thing quickly. I'd love to know how anyone can label that as a hip check when it was his shoulder/rib area that did the hitting. The other thing that's going to make him look really bad in any review would be the two punches that Marchand threw at Salo seconds before that hit.
Sabre Dance Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 I wasn't aware that you could fire your head coach. So, what is that, 170 coaching changes since Lindy was hired?
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012  So, what is that, 170 coaching changes since Lindy was hired? At 200 we should hold a parade down Delaware for him. Maybe charge season ticket holders an extra $5 a ticket next year so the city doesn't have to pay for it.

Maybe charge season ticket holders an extra $5 a ticket next year so the city doesn't have to pay for it. I'd buy 10 season tickets and give them to the less fortunate (I have no interest in going to the games) ... if they let me be grand marshall of that parade.

I was watching the game last night and watched him leave after the Duck's 4th goal. ...Watched the game to see if the Ducks announcers would mention trade rumors, which they did not. No, it was an injury, confirmed by the Ducks' twitter page. My post was just another trade rumor/request made by someone on Twitter that I thought was funny and wanted to share. I can't argue with the logic: injured Roy + healthy Miller for injured Hiller and healthy Getzlaf. Seems even to me.

Eleven Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Marchand gets 5 games: http://espn.go.com/b...s-sami-salo-hit About time a Bruin actually saw consequences. See, Brendan, it's really not that hard. When they break rules, suspend them. Same with Kaleta, right? Dustin Penner injures himself while eating pancakes: http://lakingsinside...e-missing-link/ lol The article was completely silent on the pancake recipe. I am disappointed. Were they blueberry pancakes? (Gross.) Upper-Midwest-style apple pancakes? (Awesome.) It's very difficult to be judgy, here.

I hate fruit. ..And how do you say "pancakes" anyway? Is it a tip of the tongue n as in "pan-cakes" or is it a back of the tongue n as in punkin?

Yes, for some reason I've been privately hoping for Hiller & Getzlaf traded for Miller, Roy, and a young d-man (and maybe a pick or two)... I'm sure it's a pipe dream, but a guy can dream. Whenever a guy gets hurt I think "have they just pulled him off the ice because he's been traded?" :)
shrader Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Wow, the Shannahan video nailed the Marchand situation. I missed it in the video, but that same exact scenario (Salo approaching Marchand) happened seconds early and Marchand threw this shoulder into him. It couldn't be any more obvious what his intent was there.
