Cereal Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 GM's are in talks with other GM's about far more potential deals than any of us will ever hear about. I'm certain this applies to Darcy as well. If he's as stubborn/difficult to strike a deal with as whomever (edit: just say the thread on it... been avoiding many threads here, trying to stay positive!...) Burke said so in the article the other day (and I certainly believe that too), then this would provide further argument that much more talk goes on than we see.

I think if you go back to other deals Burkes made in the past you'll find that its a long drawn out affair where he includes the media in a she said he said manner to get what he wants from his counterparts and to apply pressure so I wouldn't be all that surprised to hear that him and Darcy have been discussing ' stuff ' in the not too distant past. Remember the Kessel trade? It went on forever and everyone knew it was going to take place well before it actually did because Burke included the media every chance he could. Its the way this blowhard works.

Its the way this blowhard works. Brian Burke is hardly a blow hard. I find what he has done in Toronto in the past 3 years to far exceed anything Regier has done here since pre-lockout. Burke is considered by many in NHL circles to be one of the smartest hockey minds out there. His work speaks for itself in the building of contenders, you only need look at his past teams to see the pure talent and skill on them. Toronto is going to be better than Buffalo for years to come if Regier stays at the helm here in my most humble opinion.

He is a smart G.M. but I'll stand by my opinion that he is a blowhard, loudmouthed media darling. He not only goes on t.v. regularly to spout off when he doesn't get his way but I've witnessed his wife go on talk radio to stick up for her husband. When he was in Vancouver he was vilified almost across the board from the local media for going to different stations and trying to get reporters fired because they wouldn't tow the line with him. IMO he's an idiot the way he bullies people and uses his Irish roots as an excuse for wanting to fight people. He recently asked Kevin Lowe to meet him for a barn fight and even went so far to hold a press conference to tell everyone about it. Mans an idiot. I agree about Regier staying here. He's already done enough damage.
JJFIVEOH Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Marchand got a game misconduct AND is set for a hearing tomorrow........ because of this?!?!?! You've got to be kidding me!

You've got to be kidding me! http://youtu.be/wGD5DbljtfE Its clipping and a cheap shot in my opinion. Not sure if it warrants any time off but Shamahan reviews every misconduct apparently so why not this one?
JJFIVEOH Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Its clipping and a cheap shot in my opinion. Not sure if it warrants any time off but Shamahan reviews every misconduct apparently so why not this one? All it looked like to me was Marchand was ducking to avoid a hit. It might not have been much of a hit, but it looked like Marchand didn't see Salo coming until the last second. Given they were pushing each other around the half minute leading up to it and the fight earlier in the game Marchand probably figured he was going to get cheap shot. I just don't see it as any more than avoiding a hit. If anything Marchand's punch to the head just before that happened probably warrants more of a penalty. But, that's just the way I see it. ;)

deluca67 Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Philly and Sens tonight, Sabres need a Philly win in regulation.
shrader Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Just ducking a hit directly into his knees? Sure.
Sabres Fan in NS Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Philly and Sens tonight, Sabres need a Philly win in regulation. Is the situation so dire that we now have to cheer for those dastardly Flyers!! Je refuse!!
RazielSabre Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 I haven't checked the previous pages but this is an interesting read. Don't known much about the situation at hand though. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1014888-nhl-favors-bruins-again-milan-lucic-not-suspended-despite-video-evidence
deluca67 Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Is the situation so dire that we now have to cheer for those dastardly Flyers!! Je refuse!! A Sens win puts them 9 points (with 2 more games played) ahead of the Sabes. The Sabres were able to make the playoffs last season with a combination of their run and teams falling back. Teams like the Sens and Panthers are the most likely teams to fall out of thier current playoff spots.

And why would you want the Sabres to go on a run and have other teams help them by playing badly ... don't you see that if they make the playoffs DR and LR may still be around. And your avitar states that you are a charter member of TSC!! :P

They showed the replay on the NHL network and Lucic clearly jumped on the ice before the fray started. I believe it was Thornton who was heading off on the change and turned around to start the scrum. Lucic may not be an angel,in this case he did nothing wrong. He should not have been tossed from the game and now way deserves any additional penalty.

It's about the 2:00 mark.

I was wonderign that myself, since he never left the ice he can't be prenalized for coming off the bench, can he? Fair enough concerning the playoffs ... I was just givin' you grief anyway. I think there may be something about him not completing the shift change, but am not sure. H. Sedin (I think) was very sure and careful to be sure to complete his shift change ... probably more so because he didn't want his tutu damaged in the nasty business on the ice.

Bmwolf21 Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Just ducking a hit directly into his knees? Sure. He says he didn't hit his knees: … "I've seen the replay a bit. I did go under him but I felt the base contact was about his hip point. That's usually a pretty legal hit from what I've seen in the past. I have no idea about how the League feels about it." http://sports.yahoo....html#more-21926 This video shows it pretty good. It was Lucic who was heading off the ice but didn't leave the ice. Just because the laffs are in playoff position doesn't mean they are going to make it. Three years No Playoffs. Dominated by Regier's Sabres who went twice. It ain't much on Darcy's side but it was something other than a bunch of random moves like the tool in Toronto. If Darcy's as bad as we all think of him; then how bad is Burky?

If Darcy's as bad as we all think of him; then how bad is Burky? How bad is Burke? Are you kidding me? Let's see... he paid a high price in a trade (something Darcy will seemingly never do) for a legitimate 30+ goal scorer in Phil Kessel, who, believe it or not, is proving to be worth the price (also got Joe Colborne who is tearing up the AHL). He brought in a real captain and top-pair defenseman in Phaneuf (not Craig Rivet). He also added some scoring wingers in Lupul via trade (again, something Darcy refuses to do), and MacArthur via free agency. Added two nice depth centers, Lombardi and Steckel, along with a 1st/2nd line center in Connolly. He's done a great job rebuilding this team and yes, they are playoff contenders this season. Oh, and he did all this after winning the cup with Anaheim... how BAD is Burke! Get real man... every move Burke has made has improved his team. Every move Darcy makes makes us worse.
carpandean Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Get real man... every move Burke has made has improved his team. Every move Darcy makes makes us worse. At the risk of over using this ... Darcy re-signed Connolly for two years at a cap hit of $4.50M per. Burke signed Connolly in FA for two years at a cap hit of $4.75M per. So ... what you're saying is one of these is good, while the other is bad?

TSB pretty consistantly defended Connolly here if I remember so I'm thinking he thought both GM's made good signings there.
