Wow that was a beauty! I didn't think he'd pull it off, let alone even get a shot off! Boston is definitely not having a cup hangover...

I believe Pouliot was a UFA who signed a 1.1 mil, 1 year deal with Boston in the off-season. Other than knowing he was a top 5 pick in the draft, and is on his 3rd team in 3 years, I can't recall ever noticing him in a hockey game.

Good hockey on tv tonight. Blues v Wings on VS and WJC on NHLN. Howard vs Elliot will be a good matchup in net and both teams are hot.

If the stars align and we are close at the trade deadline, I would love Jason Arnott as a rental.

I hate hearing his name for some reason, which means he's probably a player I'd like to have here.

If you missed that game, shame on you. It was brilliant.

I'm consistently amazed at how the Wings are just on a level the Sabres would not be able to compete with right now.

And yet, they lost in the first round the last two years. With all that talent (which the Sabs don't have). Shouldn't Babcock be gone?

Nope, they lost in the second round both years, and lost in the Cup finals the year before that (which I know you know). Which was of course the year after winning the Cup.

Not sure what the point was you were trying to make.

You're right on that; it was the second round and not the first. Still, with all that talent...

I guess neither is Eleven when it comes to playoff time the past 5 years........

I just don't feel like getting into some slap fest with Eleven. I like him too much as a poster. If he has a point I just want to hear it. There's enough static around here these days as it is without us adding to it.

Doubt the Blues will be sellers. Since the their coaching change they have been one of the better teams in the league.

You know, I really appreciate that, and there is too much static around here. I'll not sully this thread with my point; if I want to argue about whether coaches should be fired, I'll keep it to the proper thread.

That would definitely be one of the stars. Although, their roster shows about 8 or 9 centers and only three LWs, and I think this is the last year of his contract. He's a little long in the tooth so they might want to get something for him.

So, how'd that coaching change in Chicago work out for ya? :nana: :D

Sounds like Ron Wilson got a contract extension. And rightfully so, but you've gotta admit, this next part is a little funny:

Saturday he tweeted, "This Xmas could be better if Santa stuffs a certain piece of paper in my stocking. #whatcouldthatbe."

This morning he followed up with, ""He came! He came!" Remember saying that as a little kid? Well he did: I got a new Red Ryder BB gun and a contract extension!"

Seems kind of weird for a coach to be "asking" for an extension. I always assumed it worked the other way around. Either way it's the right decision, but I wonder if his tweet put a little bit more pressure on the Leafs to get it done sooner rather than later?

Its funny too cause Leafs fans HATE this guy and keep talking about how they want him replaced....

Then in his first game with the extension they play a horrible game against the panthers losing 5-3 and pullig Reimer (I think Florida had 2-3 goals on only 8 shots to start the game)

Well, if we're going to close the Christmas thread before I'm done with my poem, I may as well change my name back. It apparently wasn't bringing the team enough luck, either.

Nor is this avatar. Suggestions? Back to the dice? The clock?

For anyone interested, the Sabres winter classic game will be on MSG at 9. Sure, we know how it ends, but it's still fun to watch.

MSG and not MSG HD. The latter has some thing where guys bounce an orange ball around. It's very strange to me.

But dark, thanks for the Ice Bowl heads up, even if on "regular def." It's been a while since I've seen it on screen.

Watching it now...this was the first in the US, and certainly the best. I was there. It was a near-holy event in these parts. The Pit fans were as in awe as we were, it really was a neat day.

I went to the next one, too, at Wrigley, and it wasn't even close to the same. And that had little to do with venue, or weather (it was SO much colder in Chicago); it had a lot to do with fans knowing the game. We got lucky with Buffalo and PIt; lots of educated fans. Not the same story at Wrigley, even though Detroit was in.
