Weave Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 I was searching twitter and saw this tweet... made me laugh because it's exactly the deal I WOUDLN'T make... Matt_Faso Matthew Faso Bobby Ryan for zach kassian and brayden mcnabb and picks? ... The ducks gm and scouts were at FN center last night... #MakeItHappenDarcey lol. Yeah, our two most highly touted prospects who presumably will bring what this team has lacked for years, we'll just trade them for Bobby Ryan? I want Ryan bad, idk about that bad. Never fear. The Sabres can't add Ryan's salary without shedding alot of their own so Ryan for two prospects won't work. And for those who will say, "no big deal, put more players in Rochester", I'm hear to say right now that it won't happen. Pegs was willing to eat Kotaliks salary to get Regehr. My heavy bet is it ends there. No more big $$'s in Rochester this year. So keep dreamin'.
Cereal Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Pro Hockey Talk... Miller for Bobby Ryan? http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2011/11/30/todays-insane-bobby-ryan-trade-rumor-involves-ryan-miller?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter If the Ducks strictly wanted to dump salary, they wouldn't be looking at moving Bobby Ryan first and foremost. There is more than meets the eye as to what is going on. Furthermore, do not confuse some junior prospects with NHL ready players. My guess is that they are looking for young talented players(a forward and a defenseman) who can step in right now or at the beginning of next season. Right. A trade involving the Ducks and Sabres, and especially Miller (and therefore Hiller I guess, too) would probably most likely work if another team got involved, making it a three-way trade. I don't know who, but maybe a team like Dallas? I haven't heard much about them since the ownership changed. Regardless, I like Bobby Ryan a lot. Not sure if that's exactly what we need right now, though. We might have to get the annual Trades/Transactions thread going soon.

We can't take on Ryan without shedding some salary and the Ducks seem to want prospects and possibly Miller. We would need another team to get involved that would be willing to take on some of the salary we are looking to shed but it would probably cost us an additional prospect (think defensive prospect) to convince them to take on salary.
spndnchz Posted November 30, 2011 Author Report Posted November 30, 2011 Per Gleason, Ducks had three scouts at BUF-NYI game. :o Yeah Murray was there. He just got done looking at the Ducks AHL affiliate in Syracuse.
pegs4mayor Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Yeah Murray was there. He just got done looking at the Ducks AHL affiliate in Syracuse. Where do u get this ###### haha
Weave Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Yeah Murray was there. He just got done looking at the Ducks AHL affiliate in Syracuse. Quite a few former Sabres working for other teams on that list.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Quite a few former Sabres working for other teams on that list. Working for Stanley Cup management as well......
LabattBlue Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Quite a few former Sabres working for other teams on that list. I noticed that too. Alumni Night at the FNC! Pegs must have been in his glory...Luce, Martin, Dudley & Lever. I wonder how else was there?
nfreeman Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 28 games not enough? Stafford got a huge raise based on 32 games. Stafford is not a physical player. He plays a flash and dash game. He needs to use his size to accentuate his talent. He needs to play like a 6' 2" 220lb force. When he does decide to play like that, for example his rushes in the last Boston game, Stafford looks worth every penny of his contract, Problem is that those moments are to few and far between. I couldn't be more right than with Briere. I never denied his offensive ability. That was a given. The idea that he is a 100 point per year superstar center that many around here claimed he was has been proven to be wishful thinking. Briere excelled in Philly by being the accent piece to Richards and Carter. There is a huge difference between being the #1 guy and being able to settle into a role. In Philly he settled into a role. He is a very expensive accent piece. You are partially right about Stafford and, as usual, 100% wrong about Briere. Frankly, I'm mystified as to why you keep beating this drum, since I think you understand that (i) playoff production is the most important item a player can bring to the table and (ii) Briere is #1 in the entire NHL in playoff scoring since the lockout. For the record: are you ready yet to trade Roy for Briere straight up? Or are you still clinging to the theory that Roy is the better player? If so, what is your justification? I'm not sure why the Ducks would be interested in Stafford since he is Bobby Ryan lite, and is a couple of years older, but I think you'd be looking at something like... Stafford + any defenseman not named Myers or McNabb(NHLer or prospect) + 2nd round pick. I would think the Ducks would want Ennis over Stafford, and I'd consider that deal also, but the Ducks would need to take back some salary in that case. More food for thought...Try and trade for Ryan, or make a hard run at Parise in the offseason? I like Bobby Ryan more. Trade for Bobby Ryan, make the hard run at Weber this offseason. (Even though I have no idea how they could make them both fit :death: ) I'd rather have Parise than Ryan, and I'd rather have Weber than either of them or anyone on the Sabres' roster. In a perfect world I'd love to see the Sabres sign Parise as a UFA this summer and trade Stafford or Pommer plus other assets (and the price would be high -- like Stafford/Pommer, Ennis, McNabb and a #1 -- we'd be hard pressed to keep Vanek and Myers out of the deal) for Weber. Having said that, if the Sabres could package Stafford, Ennis and Sekera/MAG/other defenseman for Ryan, I would pull the trigger. I think generally you're right about this, but I could see the Sabres doing it to facilitate a deal if this year were the last year of a guy's contract, since it would be a partial year anyway.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Why is Ryan on the block and not Getzlaff? If the Leafs get Ryan, and the Bruins end up with Iginla...yikes!
spndnchz Posted November 30, 2011 Author Report Posted November 30, 2011 The Tampa Bay Lightning have extended defenseman Victor Hedman to a five-year deal. Don't see the money # yet
X. Benedict Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 If the Ducks want anybody - it is a defense-men coming back.
nfreeman Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Why is Ryan on the block and not Getzlaff? If the Leafs get Ryan, and the Bruins end up with Iginla...yikes! Because Getzlaf is a much, much better player. If the Ducks want anybody - it is a defense-men coming back. You may be right, but the Sabres aren't going to trade Myers, and none of their other defensemen is compelling enough to get a borderline star player like Ryan.
Samson's Flow Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Because Getzlaf is a much, much better player. You may be right, but the Sabres aren't going to trade Myers, and none of their other defensemen is compelling enough to get a borderline star player like Ryan. We can give them defensemen in bunches, problem is the only ones of real interest to the Ducks are probably Myers, McNabb (i.e. the ones we want)

A defensemen doesn't preclude other pieces. But the Ducks D is pretty bad.
waldo Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Myers goes in a heart beat in a deal for Getzlaf if that is what they want.
novascotiaguy Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Myers goes in a heart beat in a deal for Getzlaf if that is what they want. No way would I trade Myers. A few years down the road we would be regretting it big time.
waldo Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 No way would I trade Myers. A few years down the road we would be regretting it big time. That is a guess. From what i have seen of him to date, and if i was being kind, I would say Myers is 50-50 at best down the road..Getzlaf is not a guess. That is why you make the trade.
X. Benedict Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 No way would I trade Myers. A few years down the road we would be regretting it big time. You are undervaluing Getzlaf. He's the complete package.
novascotiaguy Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 I would say alot more then 50/50. How many 21 year old calder winning d men that are 6 foot 8, and can skate and play as well as he does have you seen in the nhl? Seems like everyone is so quick to down our guys.
Assquatch Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 The Tampa Bay Lightning have extended defenseman Victor Hedman to a five-year deal. Don't see the money # yet 5 yrs 20MM
waldo Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 A nice puff piece. We must be getting ready to trade Vanek. :D Maybe he will go to a team with a real one center and finally get to score his 40-50 goals. http://insider.espn.go.com/nhl/story?id=7298489&_slug_=nhl-clutch-performance-indicator-measuring-importance-every-goal&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fnhl%2fstory%3fid%3d7298489%26_slug_%3dnhl-clutch-performance-indicator-measuring-importance-every-goal

No one wants to give up Myers. But Getzlaf is 26, has great size and is a top 7-8 NHL player.
darksabre Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Absolutely excellent hockey game on vs right now. Detroit v Tampa.
