Crosby didn't even see him when he was battling and it was not a deliberate elbow. That type of contact happens 20 times a game in the playoffs. I would get a woody if we had a guy with 70% his skill and that grit. Vanek almost gets it.

I think people here have a tough time deciphering Team Stormcloud's view on people as hockey men, and their off ice beings. There is only 1 person on the team I don't respect as a human being. Many of the same people I may harp on for on ice persona, off ice they are great guys. Lindy included.

OK I'll bite...who?

Guess today is Black Monday, with Boudreau and Maurice fired. Did the Caps really hire Dale Hunter, the same jackass who separated Turgeon's shoulder well after a goal and was suspended 21 games for said hit?

Yep. Of course, if Turgeon hadn't pretended to shoot himself in the leg after the goal, that mightn't ever have happened.

First, how are you being proven right on Stafford only after 28 games. I believe the season is 82 games long. And, he has not played lazily at all this year if you actually watch the game and not just the box score stat line. He hasn't scored, but it isn't because he's playing soft or not being around the net or making plays.

Second, you are 100% wrong on Daniel Briere. The guy is a player and no matter how he plays in the defensive zone or whether he takes dives or not, he is exactly the type of player this team has needed for the last 4 years, and it was not a genius move by the Sabres not to re-sign him. If Briere was on this team, this team consistently makes the playoffs and advances multiple rounds. Don't let your hatred of his defensive zone play blind your opinion on the fact that he is the exact player the Sabres had and still need today. He made J.P. Dumont, he made Jason Pominville, he made Ville Leino. Prove me wrong on that.

28 games not enough? Stafford got a huge raise based on 32 games. Stafford is not a physical player. He plays a flash and dash game. He needs to use his size to accentuate his talent. He needs to play like a 6' 2" 220lb force. When he does decide to play like that, for example his rushes in the last Boston game, Stafford looks worth every penny of his contract, Problem is that those moments are to few and far between.

I couldn't be more right than with Briere. I never denied his offensive ability. That was a given. The idea that he is a 100 point per year superstar center that many around here claimed he was has been proven to be wishful thinking. Briere excelled in Philly by being the accent piece to Richards and Carter. There is a huge difference between being the #1 guy and being able to settle into a role. In Philly he settled into a role. He is a very expensive accent piece.

I don't post often, so I wasn't sure where to post/discuss this, but didn't think it was relevant for a new thread. Anyone have any thoughts on the speculation/validity of a Bobby Ryan trade, with Stafford being a possible part going to Anaheim? Apologies if this is the inappropriate place to post this, I didn't see any major trade discussions going on, and if the source is known to be less-than-reliable (ala Eklund). Thanks!

Ryan to NE Teams?

I don't know how trustworthy the rumor is as far as the teams interested and potential players going back, but Bobby Ryan is definitely being shopped. You can bet Toronto will be in on it for sure, as they've been (by all accounts) searching for a Top 6 forward all season for the most part. They are gellin right now and seem to have a pretty solid group, so maybe they don't need a trade as bad as people think, but Burke still has his ties in Anaheim and they appear to have a good relationship with each other -- remember we've seen Beauchemin flip-flop with those teams a few times now.

Read this quote this morning from Damien Cox of the Toronto Star: "Bobby Ryan on being traded: "I wouldn't be surprised." Possible suitors include Rangers and Canes, Leafs will at least kick the tires."

I'm not sure why the Ducks would be interested in Stafford since he is Bobby Ryan lite, and is a couple of years older, but I think you'd be looking at something like...

Stafford + any defenseman not named Myers or McNabb(NHLer or prospect) + 2nd round pick.

I would think the Ducks would want Ennis over Stafford, and I'd consider that deal also, but the Ducks would need to take back some salary in that case.

More food for thought...Try and trade for Ryan, or make a hard run at Parise in the offseason?

I like Bobby Ryan more.

Trade for Bobby Ryan, make the hard run at Weber this offseason. (Even though I have no idea how they could make them both fit :death: )

That gets my vote.

Parise for me, I would trade Ennis away as well. See if we can get Parise at the trade deadline? Long shot but if he's sure he wants to test the waters anyway we might be able to get him for relatively little.

The Ducks want to dump salary, that's why they wants prospects and picks.

Well, thank you for proving my point. You just came up with outrageously bogus reasons to hate on Briere simply because you don't like him. Again, you did not discredit or disprove my point regarding how he made J.P. Dumont, Jason Pominville, or Ville Leino. So, I guess I am right about that. Also, I still haven't seen any commentary about how he elevates his game at the most important time of the year in the playoffs, so I guess I am right about that, too. And, if you want to talk about expensive players, there are a number across the league many of whom play on the Sabres such as Thomas Vanek, Jason Pominville, Jochen Hecht, Paul Gaustad, Ryan Miller, and the list goes on. So what if he's overpaid? He delivers and is not any more overpaid than many of the people currently on the Sabres that were chosen over him. Thank you for proving my point with outrageously bogus reasons to hate on Briere.

With regard to Stafford, we agree that he has been playing over the last few games like a guy who can be a Power Forward. While the stat line is not showing it, he's playing the way we all want him to play, and I think he will deliver that style of play over the course of the year. At which point, there isn't much to discuss.

With that I have finished this discussion.

Per Gleason, Ducks had three scouts at BUF-NYI game.

:o

Maybe there's a reason Tropp/Brennan were sent down instead oh Kassian/McNabb. Let the random speculation ensue!

Good news indeed. But if the Ducks are looking for a salary dump how would we pull that off?

They could have been scouting the Islanders. Just sayin'.....

I was searching twitter and saw this tweet... made me laugh because it's exactly the deal I WOUDLN'T make...

Matt_Faso Matthew Faso

Bobby Ryan for zach kassian and brayden mcnabb and picks? ... The ducks gm and scouts were at FN center last night... #MakeItHappenDarcey

lol. Yeah, our two most highly touted prospects who presumably will bring what this team has lacked for years, we'll just trade them for Bobby Ryan? I want Ryan bad, idk about that bad.

If the Ducks strictly wanted to dump salary, they wouldn't be looking at moving Bobby Ryan first and foremost. There is more than meets the eye as to what is going on. Furthermore, do not confuse some junior prospects with NHL ready players. My guess is that they are looking for young talented players(a forward and a defenseman) who can step in right now or at the beginning of next season.

Saw that Chris Butler took a deflected puck pretty good to the eye last night. There was some good discussion here on face shields awhile back after Goose started wearing one.

Actually it made me giggle when Goose threw off his helmet to start the fight with Lucic last week.
