waldo Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 Flames want to dump salary.(espn) Multiple players on the block including Olli.Anybody got the other names?
shrader Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 I'm not sure where to post this so I'll go here. Obviously I'm getting way ahead of things here, but does anyone know if one team's draft class has ever resulted in two Calder trophies? I know 2008 was supposed to be a very deep, but if things continue to progress, the Sabres hit a homerun with the start of that draft class.

Leave Myer's alone Shrader. He is Playing relatively well. His game is more physical, his shot selection decisons on the PP are better, and he is playing a more mature defensive game. He is still shaky when under pressure in his own zone but that can be rooted in a non skill set related area. Rome was not built in a day. He is a solid top twenty defender so far. It is a long, long season. Carolina was a good first test. Lets watch him against Philly, Tampa and Boston?

Playing with Pommers and Vanek, who are both very responsible defensively, has helped him out immensely. Let the kid play. We can revisit this issue again in another 15-20 games.

Very early! the two on one against Pitt when the correct decision was not shoot being just one example of just how young and inexperienced he is, but then again Roy would have shot too. The correct decision was to make the goalie move by passing to the left wing,

The correct decision was to make the goalie move by passing to the left wing , then the error was compounded by poor shot placement. If you are going to shoot go low in that situation not over the net. You wanna talk about poor shot placement? Vanek gunned two pucks three feet over the net on 2-on-1s in that game.

Hey, if people can gush about 3 games for Phil Kessel in one thread, I can compliment Adam here. I do appreciate the main point of the post being ignored though. Has any draft class ever produced 2 Calder trophies? This organization has produced 4 rookie of the year awards at the pro level in the past 3 seasons. You can understand why my mind might float in that direction.

The guy who has scored 30 in the previous, how many seasons, put up how many points last year without a one center, or Adam the rookie center trying to stay in the NHL ? We can talk about Vanek if you wish?

Not sure about two calders coming form one draft class, but it's a realistic possibility if Adam can keep it up. I'm wondering who will step it up in Rochester and win AHL rookie this year.

Re - kessel - I hear you, but I hold you to a higher standard! RE two calder cups from one draft class? Not sure, The first NHL draft was held in 1963. The Calgary flames drafted 3 calder award winners in three consecutive years from 83-85. Name them.

People can "gush" about Kessel because he's a bona-fide goal scorer who has scored 30+ for three straight seasons.. He's off to a hot start, but my "gushing" is not based on just three games. I've always liked Phil. That's why I drafted him! Luke Adam is a different story, though I don't think "gushing" about him is uncalled for. It's exciting to see him do well.

Actually, I'm sure that plenty of teams got two calder cups from one draft class. ;) As for your questions, that guy who makes me think of lesbians isn't in there, is he?
waldo Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 I was just saying lol :) I know, ...lol.. One of his shots went off of the left shoulder if you slow it down it is pretty clear. It suprised me, in that the shot was so far out of character for him in that situation. The other one i do not remember. Although they pay him to shoot he is consistently has one of the lowest shots per game average on the team for a winger every year. Statisticially he looks more like a offensive defenseman. I hope Adam does not turn into a shoot first Roy type center. That is not the mix to make that line really go imo.

Maybe I am thinking of two different games. I know in one of them Vanek had Roy (maybe Pommer on second thought? Maybe adam even. lol) wide open for what is generally a high-percentage scoring opportunity on a cross-crease one timer. He chose to launch his signature slap shot instead, to no avail. I don't mind Vanek shooting I guess, it just cracks me up sometimes how players have their favorite shots and go-to plays that become predictable when you watch them play every game.

I thought we were talking about the two out of character shots he took in the Pitt game. Thats the one i referred to. I am sure he would like that one back, he only took two shots that game. Luke took four.

Weave Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 Hockey Porn: Cam Janssen vs Brian McGrattan Oct 15, 2011 This is a doozy. The boys at hockeyfights.com were labeling this one an early fight of the year candidate. The first half of that fight it looked like Janssens was hanging on for dear life just trying not to get an orbital bone broke, then when McGrats started to punch out Janssens put on a counterpunching clinic. Near the end Janssens caught him flush and I think stunned the monster more than a little bit. Great fight. And fantastic job by the much smaller Janssens. :worthy: Nice post X Edit- ya gotta love the two of them jawing at each other and egging each other on in the middle of the fight. Great stuff to watch.

Seriously? 1 loss and we dropped to 7th? laughable omfg the laughs are higher... :death:

Seriously? 1 loss and we dropped to 7th? laughable omfg the laughs are higher... :death: The leafs haven't lost yet and look pretty good. the avs are 4-1 with wins over boston and montreal, and the islanders have won three straight. buffalo dropped one to the (at the time) winless hurricanes. i agree with whoever it was that said power rankings are worthless this early in the season, but regardless... just because buffalo dropped a few spots doesn't mean those other teams are "better" than us... it's mostly just who's "hot" right now. bottom line is the sabres went 1-1 since last week's power rankings.

Also I totally respect what the Avs have done so? why did you mention them? You are right these do mean nothing.
