Samson's Flow Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 DiPietro concussed. And what year are they in of that ridiculous contract? :wallbash:
X. Benedict Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 DiPietro concussed. Good thing he's signed for another decade. He'll have time to recover.
korab rules Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 You know, I'm not so sure that he didn't know Beagle was hurt. Like you said, the hand wash gesture is pretty standard, but that additional sleeping gesture isn't. That was the stupid part. But hey, he quickly realized it after the game and made the appropriate comments. I've never been a fan, but I like the way he handled it afterwards. Getting knocked out momentarily does not mean he is hurt - Ashom definitely knew he was out - he lowered Beagle to the ice. Is Beagle hurt (other than his feelings)?
shrader Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 that man is almost as injury prone as Timmy... Let's see how you do when your blood is pure herpes. Getting knocked out momentarily does not mean he is hurt - Ashom definitely knew he was out - he lowered Beagle to the ice. Is Beagle hurt (other than his feelings)? In this anti-concussion day and age, taunting a guy for being knocked out is not the brightest.
wjag Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 I'm gonna have to disagree here. Guys fight. Guys get knocked out. If you don't want to get hit stay out of the ring IMO. If someone sucker punched somebody and then did the ole hand wiping gesture it would be different. I had no problem with the fight, the KO and the showboat. This is NHL Hockey. The Commish insists he isn't trying to take fighting out of the game. As long as it is legal, that is about as textbook a fight as you will see. Two willing combatants. Don't forget Beagle was landing some hits before he got Ko'd. Assham just hit the sweet spot. If this gets fined in anyway, hockey as we know it is over.
X. Benedict Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 Let's see how you do when your blood is pure herpes. In this anti-concussion day and age, taunting a guy for being knocked out is not the brightest. Usually it is considered bad form to taunt, stand over, or disparage anyone. K-out on the ice. The purpose of the hockey fight is to end any escalation, not perpetuate it. But then again, someone that has just been taking punches to the head isn't necessarily strong on etiquette.
qwksndmonster Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 I don't think Asham was out of line. I actually liked his celebration and if that was McKormick, Gaustad, or Kaleta I'd get really pumped up. I don't think there's anything wrong with celebrating a decisive victory, as Korab and Chz said.

I don't think there's anything wrong with celebrating a decisive victory, as Korab and Chz said. I agree. I seriously can't believe the reporters and bloggers on my twitter freaking out about it. I don't even think it was a big deal. When Peters broke McGratton's nose I loved it. When Kaleta went bonkers on Dorsett, I loved it. Anytime Rayzor brawled and celebrated, I loved it. Fighting is part of the game and Beagle got whacked... I hope he isn't seriously injured or anything but that's the risk you take when you decide to fight, I don't blame Asham at all. And he owned up to his actions immediately following the game, which I don't even think was necessary, but shows he truly regrets doing it.
X. Benedict Posted October 15, 2011 Report Posted October 15, 2011 Asham was out of line IMO. In the same way a hitter might show up a pitcher in baseball. It was poor sportsmanship. Nothing more. But the idea he did something suspendable or fineable is crazy.
Andrew Amerk Posted October 15, 2011 Report Posted October 15, 2011 http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/oct/14/capitals-brooks-laich-criticizes-nhls-concussion-p/ Brooks Laich isn't too concerned about concussions, or the effects, it seems. “I really don’t care about that awareness stuff. To be honest I’m sick of hearing all this talk about concussions and about the quiet room,” Laich said Friday. “This is what we love to do. Guys love to play, they love to compete, they want to be on the ice. How do you take that away from somebody? We accept that there’s going to be dangers when we play this game and know that every night that you get dressed. “Sometimes, it just feels like we’re being babysat a little too much. We’re grown men and we should have a little bit of say in what we want to do.”
deluca67 Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Phil Kessel is off to a fast start. 5 goals, 8 points and a +7 in only three games. He's a good young player. I can see him taking that next step as a player. From 30 goals & 60 points to 40+ goals and 100 points.

deluca67 Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Whoa, whoa, whoa. You do realize this isn't Kovy you're gushing about, right? ;) Kovy scored a big goal tonight in the Devils comeback win.
Two or less Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored a hat trick so far in the Edmonton/Vancouver HNIC game.... tied 3-3 after 2 periods. Pretty wild, on Nugent-Hopkins third goal, it wasn't known which player would get awarded the goal, until they announced it over the sound system in the arena during play, and the fans started throwing hats during the game. haha
Taro T Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Kovy scored a big goal tonight in the Devils comeback win. So, it's heaven in DeLucaville, right? Kovy great (in October); Kessel great (in October); and Timmah nowhere to be seen (too bad that didn't happen during the past 2 years, eh? ;)).

Assquatch Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 I don't get the dissing of Kessel on here.. Kessel plays big.. If only he would start playing like he has a pair.

Kovy great (in October); Kessel great (in October); and Timmah nowhere to be seen (too bad that didn't happen during the past 2 years, eh? ;)). It's always great in DeLucaville during hockey season. There are a lot of interesting stories to watch this season. As mentioned above, the Oliers have some great young talent. I mentioned before about the young Senators. It is going to be a great year. Too bad about Connolly, I wonder if he has the will to play the game, I have wondered that for about 10 years.

I can see him taking that next step as a player. From 30 goals & 60 points to 40+ goals and 100 points. I doubt he will ever reach 100 points, he doesn't pass the puck that well.......He does have a great quick shot, but he goes through long periods where his shot is off target.
thesportsbuff Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 I don't get the dissing of Kessel on here.. Kessel plays big.. I've caught good portions of the first three Leafs games of the season, and Kessel looks like the scariest player in the league right now (granted I haven't seen that many teams play yet :nana:). He is on a mission, and one of the key reasons I think Toronto makes playoffs this year. But I agree with the poster above me who doubts he gets 100 points. I'm thinking more like ~80. But speaking of 100-point players... it looks like this could be the year Tavares takes the next step to "elite" status, too... would NOT be shocked to see him rack up 35-40 goals and 100 points.

Hopefully Tavares and crew can get people into that building consistently. 2 sellouts over their first four home games is a good sign.

5th line wingnutt Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Too bad about Connolly, I wonder if he has the will to play the game, I have wondered that for about 10 years. How many players have come back from more serious injuries than Connolly? Connolly is not emotionally demonstrative. Some folks think this is a lack of competitiveness. I am not convinced.
