By when do they need to get above the floor? For their next game? It will be interesting to see who pushes what at them.

From the article: "The Stars were OK as long as Pardy was on IR and the Stars were carrying an extra player on the roster. But when Pardy is activated the Stars will need to take that extra player off the roster, leaving them a little more than $300,000 below the floor with a full 23-man roster. "

A little confusing because of his use of the past tense... but the way I read it, as long as Pardy is on IR, they are fine -- but he could be ready to go as soon as Thursday. They would need to resolve this issue before taking him off of IR.

What are the rules in relation to keeping a player on IR even though he's ready to return? How long could they put it off for?

Well, I agree that Sid is a kitty kat.... but not based on his concussion or how he's handled his recovery. But according to apuz it looks like I may have been off on what he was talking about anyway. Heh, like I said, I was half asleep, forgot to turn off my surround sound system and passed out in the third period of pens/panthers... woke up to him screaming at the top of his lungs about how sick he is of hearing about Crosby.

Meh, actually I take that back. Just found the video on youtube via my favorite writer Greg Wyshynski:

Definitely sounds to me like he's saying it's time for Crosby to get on the ice, get some contact, etc.

Yeah I guess I'm just chompin at the bit. I can't wait for this season to get going and I'm missing seeing the boys play.

I do wonder what the fans think of all those back to back games though. Ignoring the idea that it could tire out the team, I like knowing that I have two games to watch almost every weekend.

I love it. Nothing better than a Friday/Saturday back to back for the fans. Mostly 'cause those are the days I can enjoy the game with friends without worrying about school or work getting in the way... but to be honest any time there is more than a day between games I can barely stand the wait.

In past years the trifecta has really lost some of it's glamour by Sundays in mid-October... let's hope for a different story this year.

It'll last AT LEAST into early November.

I get the impression his bitching about the media coverage AND Crosby not being cleared for contact yet. A double rant in 1.

While listening to the FAN590 yesterday during the afternoon, this was part of their hourly update, "Tim Connolly skated during practice for 15 minutes then abruptly left the ice".

This just gets funnier and funnier for everyone. Except Timmy. That poor guy is going to be haunted for life if his career really ends this way. :(

Cup hangover?

Chowdaheads 1-3-0 start.

I think it's bad mojo from basically violating the tradition of winning the Stanley Cup... don't know if you guys missed it, but not only did they RE-celebrate the cup win on opening night by passing it around and bringing in all the members (I think even people who are no longer Bruins were there lifting the cup, no?), but then this past Sunday the Bruins took the cup on to the field at the Patriots game and lifted it like they had just won it, AGAIN.

I've never heard of a team lifting the cup BEFORE the season starts, but let alone lifting it AFTER the season starts... they could have just went to a Pats game before hockey season and I wouldn't have much of an issue. But I hope the hockey gods are with me in not liking the Bruins hauling the cup around after the next season starts...

Also, good to see Buffalo favored over Boston to win the NE on most power rankings so far

Lifting the cup to start the season is some bad ju-ju.

right up there with touching the Prince of Wales Trophy after the ECF.

Eh, I usually like Wysh's posts but I have to disagree with him here. He seems to think it's no big deal and he would expect the same anywhere... I think it shows a lack of respect and certainly a lack of class. Last night I was I was talking to someone and had my TV muted on the NHL Network, the commercial of Miller came out and I paused our conversation to turn up the volume and see what the commercial was all about (I thought it was a preview for an upcoming game or something) but when I realized it wasn't, I was like "oh nevermind, it's just some stupid crap." Then came the graphics about cancer awareness and whatnot, and I felt like a real ass for saying that.

I didn't think they had it 2 seasons in a row. Everyone else is better (minus the jets, who were hoping a change of scenery would make what is essentially the Thrashers better) and they have stayed the same. What did they expect.

I never got that one. I'd touch. And I'd have confidence that I'd touch Stanley two weeks later. Especially if I was about to go play Mr. Luongo.

Okay but an innocent chicken will have to be sacrificed because of your hubris.

I'm glad the Canes finally broke their victory cherry before Friday night; didn't want to see an 0-4 team coming in. Now the Sabres can pummel away.

I really don't care that they did it before the first game. Carrying it around after the season started is the big no-no to me. You're officially playing for the cup again at that point. It's no longer yours.

i'm really expecting the team to run the score up tomorrow. they have got to be just as itching for a game as we are. and they'll want to put on a show. Carolina looks a lot like a sacrificial chicken right now.

I would tend to agree ... skating the Cup before raising the banner and having Recchi come out even though he was retired may have been a bit much, but at the same time they won it on the road and it's kind of cool they skated it for their fans. Maybe they should have done it as a separate event instead of before a game because it dragged on and on ... but I must admit, I couldn't help but think if that was Buffalo we'd want to milk it for all it was worth too. And that's the way I felt about the Pats game too, that it was over the top but wouldn't it be awesome to have that at the Ralph ... but as Shrader says, do it BEFORE the season .... if the whole team is not in town yet, tough crap.

My God, I can't tell you how much I want the Sabres to have these problems.

Carolina has top talent at every position. Just questionable depth. A bunch of ex Leafs recycled from the scrap heap.

Chad laRose will have a hard time filling Cole's skates.

Lotta chicken hate going on right now. Of course if Carolina is the sacrificial chicken that gets killed to make up for LastPommerFan's bad juju - I'm good with it.
