What's a defense lawyer supposed to say?

He's using the, "my client is really dumber than you can possibly imagine defense."

"Joseph said fans watching the game near Moorhouse reported that he didn’t utter any racial epithets or show any hateful attitudes during the exhibition match."

Also, do you really think the guy woke up that morning and decided he was going to stop at the supermarket and pick up a banana on his way to the game, then keep it in his pocket the whole game on the off-chance it goes to a shootout and Wayne Simmonds shoots? Doubtful. I'm guessing he found the nearest piece of garbage and hurled it on the ice, probably with nothing in mind other than "###### the flyers."

Have you ever been dared to do something stupid and offensive?

I am betting most of us have.

How many oranges have you seen thrown on the ice?

One was thrown at Kevin Weeks about 7 years ago.....no .....wait....that was a banana too.

WhoTF eats bananas at a hockey game? BANNED.

health nuts. plus playing in London it's not like they have NHL-esque food vendors throughout.

Getting dared to do something stupid doesn't make it racist. "Dude, I dare you to throw something on the ice." I doubt he said "hey dude go buy a banana and try to make it back before the shootout just in case wayne simmonds happens to shoot so you can throw it at him."

also, everyone refers to it as banana, but when first reported on TSN it was referred to as a banana PEEL, ie garbage. which was it?

What 26 year old in North America doesn't understand what it means to throw a banana at a person of African descent?

His lawyer says he's mortified and embarrassed. That's a good start.

Ignorant of what his actions meant? It is possible. He certainly isn't ignorant of that now.

I'm not the guy prosecuting the man. But I'm disinclined to believe him or his defense lawyer.

Why is his defense lawyer making public comments that keep this Arschloch's name in the press if he is "embarrassed and mortified."

But here is a dare for you...explain to a mature room of African-Americans how you are convinced that this was just the most innocent of pranks - and let us know how it goes.

haha I know, it doesn't really mean anything. But boy does it feel good to read those words and have it not really matter to us. :clapping:

I remember X. Benedict saying a while back that he hopes that Brian Burke stays in Toronto a long time. The fact that he signed Tim Connolly from free agency probably has us snickering incessantly.

Who knows? Maybe his next head coach will be Mini-Me.

Jack, I have this really nice bridge that you may want to take a look at. I'm accepting the best offer.

Ok, this really went waaaaaaaaaaay over my head.

Butler Fits in Fine on Flames Blueline

On Being Boumeister's Partner

“Initially, I was surprised, but once I had a chance to talk to (GM) Jay (Feaster) and Brent, I realized it would be a good fit. For me, it’s a chance to start new and show what type of player I can be. I couldn’t ask for a better partner. He moves quickly, efficiently and is a tremendous skater — I’ve always admired how he plays.”

Funny, as Sutter and several other Flames executives have said the same thing about Butler, including one who went as far as to say he thought Butler was already a better player than Regehr – a bold, if not irresponsible, statement given Regehr’s tenure here.

“That’s a tremendous compliment,” said Butler, who switched from No. 28 early in camp to No. 44 out of respect for Regehr.

It sounds like he'll def. be in the top 4 if not the top pair.

Man I just had to tweet a response to one of my twitter friends that was making fun of this too. I know it's funny to see Toronto dealing with the same ###### Buffalo did, but it's pre-season and he's "day to day." Not a long term thing. Derek Roy is day-to-day, too, and he missed HALF of last season. Does that make him injury prone? Is he overpaid because of it? *Insert other rhetorical hyperboles*

GET WELL SOON TIMMY

No but his injury history and games missed does.

It'll be interesting to see how he performs. One ex-sabre I might well keep an eye on.

Good news on Doughty, even as an opponent I wouldn't like to see him sit out.

Word is Doughty signed in LA.

8 years - 56 Million from Kypreos?

I imagine he'll be playing against Buffalo next week.

Doughty has what an extra year in the leauge than Myers? I thought he would be a good comparable in terms of what Myers is worth in the open market. Looks like our cap hit is quite a bit better than Drew but I'm not sure how this deal is structured. I'm sure giving Myers a ton of money up front helped keep the total dollar value lower. I know 8 years is a long time and our ownership will hopefully be smart enough to keep Myers here for life (if he progressing like we think he will) but that would be an interesting summer in the NHL eight years from now because Myers and Doughty's contract's expire at the same time and both should still be in their prime at that point in time.
