I also wouldn't be surprised to see it, but it's not what I want. I think Myers can do a fine job of retrieving the puck, keeping it in the zone, and either passing to Ehrhoff or firing away.

hell, grags seems to have a beautiful set of hands, he could be that guy. I'd much rather have two defenders back there.

Myers reach also makes him pretty valuable in that role when it comes to keeping a pass from down low in the zone.

I'm convinced the reason we have all these "offensive defensemen" is for this particular purpose.

Bruins shopping Marchand.

Holy crap I hope this is true. Sign him to a 3-4 year deal with slightly less than Hecht money. Then get rid of Hecht for cap reasons.

Edit: This is assuming he's a center (as he is listed on NHL.com), I always thought he was a winger. I haven't payed close enough attention to the Bruins' lines.

2nd edit: Okay he's a wing. Sign him and get rid of Boyes.

If the plan is to use Myers as a part of a "shut down pairing" it may be a wise move to keep him off of the power-play so they can use him more 5 on 5 and the PK.

Ehrhoff was brought in to be the hammer on the power play. The other point-man's primary responsibility is to feed Ehrhoff the puck. That is why I seriously doubt the days of a forward at the point of the power-play are over. I would not be surprised to see Pominville at one point and Roy at the opposite half-wall feeding Erhoff while Vanek and another forward crowd the net snagging rebounds.

exactly..Pom or better yet Roy on the point with Leino on the half wall?

They would never send him within the division. If he goes, It's far west.

But they sure don't have a problem with acquiring from within the division. One of our alums now has a Stanley Cup with them to his credit. <_<

Bruins shopping Marchand.

What? Why?

Bruins shopping Marchand?

9:30

AM ETBrad Marchand | Bruins Top EmailComments3 UPDATE:Yesterday we heard the Boston Bruins were "sniffing around" to see what they could get for Brad Marchand on the trade market. And for those doubting the rumor, the Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch tweeted, "Don't."

While we are still skeptical, let's assume for a second that the Bruins are shopping Marchand: What could he fetch? Now, remember: The Bruins traded Phil Kessel two years ago for two first-rounders and a second-rounder. Marchand won't fetch that kind of return, but the Bruins are probably going to at least seek a first-rounder plus another asset.

That said, Marchand became a fan favorite during the Bruins' Stanley Cup run, so GM Peter Chiarelli surely prefers getting Marchand signed. While Marchand was expected to get a deal around $2.5 to $3 million a year, the Philadelphia Flyers signed James can Riemsdyk to a six-year deal for $4.25 million a season, which might be closer to what Marchand is looking for.

UPDATE: The Boston Bruins and restricted free agent Brad Marchand may not get a new deal hammered out after all.

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports the Bruins may be moving on to Plan "B".

"With no contract done for RFA Brad Marchand and camp close, the Bruins are sniffing around to find out his value on the trade market ... Not sure what the gap is between the Bruins and Marchand's camp, but it must still be significant ..."

Earlier reports predicted Marchand might sign a two-year, $5 million contract. That figure seemed a bit low considering Marchand was reportedly interested in earning nearly $4 million/season.

UPDATE: In today's NHL, Brad Marchand is probably a "$2, $2.4 million player in the Bruins' eyes," the Boston Globe's Kevin Dupont tells TSN. But Marchand likely wants something around $4 million, so Dupont figures this deal will eventually get done and it will be for around $3 million.

That said, Dupont points out that Marchand's agent is Wade Arnott, who also represents Phil Kessel. And if you'll remember back a few years, Arnott was able to get Kessel a big deal by finding a taker for him on the trade market. However, Dupont doesn't think any team will be willing to pay up that much for Marchand.

It looks like Brad Marchand and the Boston Bruins have hit a wall in contract talks. The Boston Globe's Kevin Paul Dupont reports that "both sides remain stone silent."

Now, one thing that might help is the deal Logan Couture got with the San Jose Sharks. It's a two-year deal for $5.75 million, so perhaps that can be a starting point for Marchand, who is one year older but had 15 fewer regular season points than Couture. So Marchand may not be able to make as much as Couture, but a strong post-season might allow him to negotiate up to something similar to Couture's deal.

Eh, he cited his source. I don't see any problem there.
