Andrew Amerk Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 If relocated to Canada, the only two spots I can think of would be Quebec and Hamilton. Oh oh. I highly doubt the Sabres and Leafs would ever approve of a Hamilton team. Quebec is building their new arena with clear hopes and ambitions of bringing a team there again. Phoenix is a failure. Put the team somewhere that they will be appreciated.
spndnchz Posted August 14, 2011 Author Report Posted August 14, 2011 Reports saying Crosby won't be ready to start the season, still messed up. As much as I hate him (because he's not on my team) hockey's gonna miss him.

shrader Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 Now maybe we can stop talking about hypothetical trades for Malkin. Or Staal for that matter. And we can also talk about the league finally going after hits to the head. Short of a death, this is the worst thing that could have happened to them. And I don't quite feel right mentioning this and a death in the same sentence, but it's pretty appropriate I think.

Bullwinkle Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 this is the only recent thing I can find that sounds kind of like what bullwinkle is talking about: http://www.bizjourna...r.html?page=all However, they would be buying the team with a 7-year out clause, not to move it immediately. here is a story about THAT story out of canada with the quote from the mayor: http://www.theglobea...article2128028/ But I didn't take from that quote that it might be better if they go ... i took it as she doesn't want them to go but the city has to have a plan as if they might because the NHL controls it. Whatever the case it certainly seems like Canadian groups are the ones taking runs as the troubled franchises ... Quebec my get one before Southern Ontario, but whether it's 5 or 20 years from now it's certainly possible that there may be another team between Buffalo and Toronto. As long as Pegula is around it's not quite as scary. EDIT: I found the quote about the "other owners," I almost missed it: "The decision is with the NHL, the other, I think it is 29 other owners, who they want to be an owner of the team." So bullwinkle was pointing out she's not SURE how many other owners there are ... she THINKS it's 29 others. (in her defense, the NHL owns the team in her city, perhaps she thinks this is going on elsewhere also ...) Yep, that's my source and your take agrees with mine.

thesportsbuff Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Now maybe we can stop talking about hypothetical trades for Malkin. Or Staal for that matter. Maybe we should just stop talking about hypothetical trades altogether and just talk about nothing until October. Sound good?
Weave Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Maybe we should just stop talking about hypothetical trades altogether and just talk about nothing until October. Sound good? If you are going to get defensive and dickish maybe you not talking until then does sound good. ;)
thesportsbuff Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 If you are going to get defensive and dickish maybe you not talking until then does sound good. ;) Listen, I don't get involved in the "trade for Malkin/Weber/Briere/GodHimself/whoever else" conversations either but it's a discussion board and other users certainly have the right to discuss those scenarios all they want... even if it bores us to death... and even if they beat it to death. Kind of silly to let a conversation on a hypothetical trade split the fanbase in half, especially with so little else to talk about anyway. We're all here for the same reasons.

My comment had nothing to do with suppressing an opinion. Back at the trade deadline last season Malkin and/or Staal came up. My point back then was, neither one goes anywhere as long as Crosby hasn't proved he's back to full steam. The link Chez posted indicates that Crosby is still hampered, hence my comment, "Now maybe we can stop talking about hypothetical trades for Malkin. Or Staal for that matter." I'm not part of the dogpiles here. No reason to react like I'm shooting someone down. We've both been active here long enough to know my history.

It came off (to me) as a shot at the posters who have discussed trading for Malkin. Maybe not from you, but whether it's Malkin or Weber or another good player, posters always seem to take flack from others who basically call them stupid for even discussing such a trade. I thought that's where you were going.

In the interst of conversation, if you were to corner me and make me choose, I'd rather go out and get Malkin, but I'd give up Vanek to get Shea Weber every time. :death: Not that either is gonna happen this time around. :clapping:

waldo Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 If you are going to get defensive and dickish maybe you not talking until then does sound good. ;) “dickish” as in Nixonesc or perhaps more in the Dick the Lionhearted direction? Then again, there is always "dickish" in the Cheney, Cavatt, Butkus, VanDyke, and Clark vien. A third, somewhat off color possibility, would be dickish in the Dick Delaware sense? :D

Andrew Amerk Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Max comes to mind immediately but it smells like a trap. That is correct. Kalinin was a close 2nd.
RazielSabre Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 That is correct. Kalinin was a close 2nd. Did Kalinin go to the KHL? He was quite a good Dman for us for, well, all of about a season but still. Whatever happened to him?
